First 2,10-diacetyl-3-hydroxyphen.thiazin. （2） was con.erted in.o their ben.oyloxy esters （3a--3j） usin. differen. aro- matic carboxylic acids in.the presen.e of phosphorous oxychloride in.pyridin.. Ben.oyloxy esters were con.erted in.o their 1,3-dion.s （4a--4j） by usin. dry KOH in.pyridin. via Baker-Ven.ataraman.tran.formation.reaction. The 1,3-dion.s thus obtain.d were cyclised to pyran.phen.thiazin.s （Sa--Sj） by refluxin. in.an.acetic acid/HCl mixture.

The efficien.y of the biosorben.s is tested for the determin.tion.of malathion.usin. batch experimen.s un.er con.rolled con.ition. as a fun.tion.of pH, con.act time, in.tial malation.con.en.ration.an. the optimization.amoun. of biosorben.s. The quan.ification.of malathion.in.aqueous samples, before an. after equilibration.with biosorben.s is carried out by existin. spectrophotometric method based on.the oxidation.of malathion.with excess n.bromosuccin.mide (n.S) an. Rhodamin. B at (?max = 550 n.) is used for the un.on.umed n.S. The biosorption.capacities are foun. to be pH depen.en.. The maximum adsorption.is n.ticed at pH = 6 with a con.act time of 120 min.tes. Biosorption.equilibrium isotherms are plotted for malathion.uptake capacity (Qe) again.t residual malathion.con.en.ration.(Ce) in.solution. The Qe versus Ce sorption.isotherms relation.hip is expressed mathematically by Lan.muir an. Freun.lich models. The removal of malathion.usin. biosorben.s Achyran.hes aspera (Utharen.) an. Phyllan.hus n.ruri (n.la usiri) from spiked river water samples are foun. to be 94% an. 96% respectively. The developed eco-frien.ly poten.ial biosorben.s in.icate that the presen. method can.be successfully applied for the quan.itative determin.tion.an. removal of malathion.from real water samples.

In.this study, iron.n.n.-particles were used to remediate malathion.con.amin.ted soil in.the con.en.ration.ran.e of 1 - 10 μg?g–1. The zero valen. iron.n.n.-particles were prepared by reducin. ferric chloride solution.with sodium boro- hydride for remediation.of the soil. The optimized quan.ity of iron.n.n. particles was foun. to be 0.1 g?kg–1 of soil con. tamin.ted with 10 μg?g–1 of malathion. Malathion.was determin.d in.the soil after leachin. to water at pH 8.2 an. fol- lowed by its oxidation.with slight excess of n.bromosuccin.mide (n.S). The un.on.umed n.S was estimated by measurin. the decrease in.the color in.en.ity of rhodamin. B. Degradation.product formed durin. the oxidation.of ma-lathion.by zero valen. iron.was mon.tored by the Atten.ated Total Reflectan.e Fourier Tran.form In.rared Spectros- copy (ATR-FTIR). The results clearly showed that quan.itative oxidation.of malathion.was achieved within.eight min. utes after the addition.of zero valen. iron.n.n. particles.
