Total resection of glioblastoma(GB)tumors is nearly impossible,and systemic administration of temozolomide(TMZ)is often *** study presents a hybrid layered composite nanofiber network(LHN)designed for localized treatment in GB tumor *** LHN,consisting of polyvinyl alcohol and core-shell polylactic acid layers,was loaded with TMZ and *** vitro analysis revealed that LHN^(TMZ) and LHNrutin decelerated epithelial-mesenchymal transition and growth of stem-like cells,while the combination,LHN^(TMZ)+rutin,significantly reduced sphere size compared to untreated and LHNTMZ-treated cells(P<0.0001).In an orthotopic C6-induced GB rat model,LHNTMZ+rutin therapy demonstrated a more pronounced tumor-reducing effect than LHNTMZ *** volume,assessed by magnetic resonance imaging,was significantly reduced in LHN^(TMZ)+rutin-treated rats compared to untreated *** changes in tumor mitochondria,reduced membrane potential,and decreased PARP expression indicated the activation of apoptotic pathways in tumor cells,which was further confirmed by a reduction in PHH3,indicating decreased mitotic activity of tumor ***,the local application of LHNs in the GB model mitigated aggressive tumor features without causing local tissue inflammation or adverse systemic *** was evidenced by a decrease in the angiogenesismarker CD31,the absence of inflammation or necrosis in H&E staining of the cerebellum,increased production of IFN-γ,decreased levels of interleukin-4 in splenic T cells,and lower serum AST *** findings collectively indicate that LHN^(TMZ)+rutin is a promising biocompatible model for the local treatment of GB.

COVID-19’s effects on microvascular structure in a healthy retina:an OCTA study

AIM:To examine the subclinical alterations in the retina and choroid between patients with 2019 coronavirus disease(COVID-19)-related lung involvement and the healthy control ***:In this prospective case-control study,85 cases with lung involvement due to COVID-19 and 50 healthy cases were ***-corrected visual acuity,intraocular pressure measurement,and anterior and posterior segment examination were performed on both eyes for each *** and retinal changes were examined and recorded by optical coherence tomography ***:All choroidal thickness measurements of the COVID-19 group showed no statistically significant difference when compared to healthy *** vascular density and perfusion density values were compared,there was a decrease in the average of these values in the COVID-19 group,although it was not statistically significant(P=0.088,P=0.065 respectively).When the fovea avascular zone(FAZ)area values were compared,the average was 0.57±0.38 in the COVID-19 group,while it was 0.54±0.24 in the control ***:Although our data are not statistically significant,the decrease in vascularity and perfusion and the accompanying FAZ expansion are detected in the acute period(1st month).These changes may anatomically alter the retina in the long term and affect functional *** ischemia-related alterations in the retina caused by a prior COVID-19 infection may arise in situations without comorbidities and may require concern in the patient’s systemic assessment.

Understanding the dynamic responses of hard rocks is crucial during deep mining and tunneling activities and when constructing nuclear waste repositories. However, the response of deep massive rocks with openings of different shapes and orientations to dynamic loading is not well understood. Therefore, this study investigates the dynamic responses of hard rocks of deep underground excavation activities. Split Hopkins Pressure Bar (SHPB) tests on granite with holes of different shapes (rectangle, circle, vertical ellipse (elliptical short (ES) axis parallel to the impact load direction), and horizontal ellipse (elliptical long (EL) axis parallel to the impact load direction)) were carried out. The influence of hole shape and location on the dynamic responses was analyzed to reveal the rocks' dynamic strengths and cracking characteristics. We used the ResNet18 (convolutional neural network-based) network to recognize crack types using high-speed photographs. Moreover, a prediction model for the stress-strain response of rocks with different openings was established using Deep Neural Network (DNN). The results show that the dynamic strengths of the granite with EL and ES holes are the highest and lowest, respectively. The strength-weakening coefficient decreases first and then increases with an increase of thickness-span ratio (h/L). The weakening of the granite with ES holes is the most obvious. The ResNet18 network can improve the analyzing efficiency of the cracking mechanism, and the trained model's recognition accuracy reaches 99%. Finally, the dynamic stress-strain prediction model can predict the complete stress-strain curve well, with an accuracy above 85%.

Palmprint Recognition by Applying Wavelet-Based Kernel PCA

This paper presents a wavelet-based kernel Principal Component Analysis （PCA） method by integrating the Daubechies wavelet representation of palm images and the kernel PCA method for palmprint recognition. Kernel PCA is a technique for nonlinear dimension reduction of data with an underlying nonlinear spatial structure. The intensity values of the palmprint image are first normalized by using mean and standard deviation. The palmprint is then transformed into the wavelet domain to decompose palm images and the lowest resolution subband coefficients are chosen for palm representation. The kernel PCA method is then applied to extract non-linear features from the subband coefficients. Finally, similarity measurement is accomplished by using weighted Euclidean linear distance-based nearest neighbor classifier. Experimental results on PolyU Palmprint Databases demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves highly competitive performance with respect to the published palmprint recognition approaches.

Human Gait Recognition Based on Kernel PCA Using Projections

This paper presents a novel approach for human identification at a distance using gait recognition. Recognition of a person from their gait is a biometric of increasing interest. The proposed work introduces a nonlinear machine learning method, kernel Principal Component Analysis （PCA）, to extract gait features from silhouettes for individual recognition. Binarized silhouette of a motion object is first represented by four 1-D signals which are the basic image features called the distance vectors. Fourier transform is performed to achieve translation invariant for the gait patterns accumulated from silhouette sequences which are extracted from different circumstances. Kernel PCA is then used to extract higher order relations among the gait patterns for future recognition. A fusion strategy is finally executed to produce a final decision. The experiments are carried out on the CMU and the USF gait databases and presented based on the different training gait cycles.

Surface Pencil with a Common Line of Curvature in Minkowski 3-Space

In this paper, we analyze the problem of constructing a surface pencil from a given spacelie （timelike） line of curvature. Using the Frenet frame of the given line of curvature in Minkowski 3-space, we express the surface pencil as a linear combination of this frame and derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the coefficients to satisfy the line of curvature requirement. We illustrate this method by presenting some examples.

Prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease in a country with a high occurrence of Helicobacter pylori

AIM To evaluate the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) with additional symptoms, relationship with Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) of this country-wide *** Data from 3214 adults were obtained with validated questionnaire. Eight hundred and forty-one subjects were randomized to be tested for H. pylori via the urea breath test. "Frequent symptoms" were defined heartburn and/or regurgitation occurring at least *** The prevalence of GERD was 22.8%, frequent and occasional heartburn were 9.3%-12.7%, regurgitation were 16.6%-18.7%, respectively. Body mass index(BMI) ≤ 18.5 showed a prevalence of 15%, BMI > 30 was 28.5%. The GERD prevalence was higher in women(26.2%) than men(18.9%)(P < 0001). Overall prevalence of H. pylori was 75.7%. The prevalence was 77.1% in subjects without symptoms vs 71.4% in subjects with GERD(χ~2 = 2.6, P = 0.27). Underprivileged with the lowest income people exhibit a higher *** GERD is common in Turkey which reflects both Western and Eastern lifestyles with high rate of H. pylori. The presence of H. pylori had no effect on either the prevalence or the symptom profile of GERD. Subjects showing classical symptoms occasionally exhibit more additional symptoms compared with those without classical symptoms.

Surgical restoration of drop-hand syndrome with tendon transfer in patients injured in the Syrian civil war

Background:The radial nerve is one of the most common war-related injury sites due to penetrating cutting tool injuries or gunshot wounds,resulting in drop-hand *** aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of tendon transfer in patients with drop-hand syndrome who had been injured in the Syrian Civil ***:This level-II,prospective,comparative study included 13 civilians injured in the Syrian Civil War 2015 and *** palmaris longus tendon was used for transfer to the extensor pollicis longus for thumb *** pronator teres was transferred to the extensor carpi radialis brevis for wrist *** flexor carpi radialis was transferred to the extensor digiti communis for 2 nd,3 rd,4 th,and 5 th finger *** outcomes of thumb abduction and extension,wrist extension,wrist flexion,and finger extension were ***:There was a high level of radial nerve injury in all patients included in the *** time from injury to treatment ranged from 1.5 months to 9 *** mechanism of injury most commonly observed was a gunshot wound,which was observed in 8 patients(61.5%),followed by a penetrating cutting tool injury(n=3;23.1%)and humerus fracture(n=2;15.4%).Conclusions:In radial nerve injuries,successful results can be achieved with tendon *** patients regained thumb abduction of up to approximately 60°.All the patients were able to bend the wrist,grip,and extend the fingers while in wrist flexion,neutral wrist and wrist extension *** the reason for the radial injury varied,the postoperative outcomes were good for all patients,and the rehabilitation period progressed successfully in patients who underwent tendon transfer repair within 90 days of injury.

ALMOST CONVERGENCE AND DOUBLE SEQUENTIAL BAND MATRIX

The class f of almost convergent sequences was introduced by G.G. Lorentz, using the idea of the Banach limits [A contribution to the theory of divergent sequences, Acta Math. 80（1948）, 167-190]. Let fo（B） and f（B） be the domain of the double sequential band matrix B（r, s） in the sequence spaces f0 and f. In this article, the β- and γ-duals of the space f（B） are determined. Additionally, we give some inclusion theorems concerning with the spaces f0（B） and f（β）. Moreover, the classes （f（B）： μ） and （μ： f（B）） of infinite matrices are characterized, and the characterizations of some other classes are also given as an application of those main results, where μ is an arbitrary sequence space.
