Violence toward emergency physicians: A prospective-descriptive study

BACKGROUND: The highest rate of workplace violence occurs in the health sector, although most cases remain unreported. Emergency services face the majority of these incidents for many reasons, such as the patient profile, long waiting time, and overcrowding. We aimed to determine the characteristics and causes of violence toward emergency physicians. mETHODS: The acts of violence toward emergency physicians over a one-year period were prospectively recorded. After a violent incident took place, a third party separately interviewed the physician exposed to the violent behavior and the perpetrator who displayed this behavior. We examined the perpetrator's reasons for violence, their demographic characteristics, and the medical complaints of patients involved in such events to determine the characteristics and causes of ***: Of the violent acts investigated, 85.1% were verbal, and most were directed toward male doctors by the young male relatives of the patients. more than half of the violent acts occurred within the 15 minutes of presentation to emergency service(60.5%) and at off-hours(69.4%). Concerning the health insurance, 20.4% of the cases were covered by the free green card system, and a small number of the perpetrators of violence lived in rural areas(38.2%). The most common reason for violent behavior was the patients' or their relatives' dissatisfaction with the examination or treatment method(38.2%).CONCLUSIONS: Appropriate communication should be established with the patients, and they should be adequately informed about the treatments and interventions to be performed in order to prevent possible acts of violence.

Physical and mechanical properties of some hybrid corn varieties

The aim of this study was to determine the structural designing parameters of silo and bins used for storage of some hybrid corn varieties(Zea mays L.).In the research,three corn varieties-dentcorn(Zea mays indentata Sturt.),popcorn(Zea mays everta Sturt.),sweetcorn(Zea mays sacharata Sturt.)-widespread cultivated in Turkey were ***-mechanical parameters(bulk density,true density,angle of internal friction,static coefficient of friction)were considered as the dependent variables,and moisture content(8%,10%,12%,and 14%)as the independent *** bulk density,true density and angle of internal friction varied from 608.46 to 856.46 kg/m^(3),950.88 to 1110.89 kg/m^(3),and 25.2°to 34.2°,respectively,with the increase in moisture content from 8% to 14%.According to results of the research,the highest average value for bulk density,true density,angle of internal friction were found in popcorn variety(839.17 kg/m^(3)),popcorn variety(1074.40 kg/m^(3)),sweetcorn variety(30.50°),*** highest average value for static coefficient of friction at concrete surface(C30)was recorded in dentcorn variety(0.662).

In the pursuit of advancing imidazolium-based energetic ionic liquids (EILs),the current study is devoted to the synthesis and characterization of 1,3-dibutyl-imidazolium azide ([BBIm][N_(3)]),as a novel member in this ionic liquids *** chemical structure of this EIL was rigorously characterized and confirmed using FTIR spectroscopy,1D,and 2D-NmR *** thermal behavior assessment was conducted through DSC and TGA *** analysis revealed an endothermic glass transition at T_(g)=-61℃,followed by an exothermic degradation event at T_(onset)=311℃.Similarly,TGA thermograms exhibited a one-stage decomposition process resulting in 100% mass loss of the ***,the short-term thermal stability of the azide EIL was investigated by combining the non-isothermal TGA data with the TAS,it-kas,and VYA/CE isoconversional kinetic ***,the Arrhenius parameters(E_(a)=154 kJ·mol^(-1),Log(A/s^(-1))=11.8) and the most probable reaction model g(a) were *** observed high decomposition temperatures and the significantly elevated activation energy affirm the enhanced thermal stability of the modified *** findings revealed that[BBIm][N_(3)]EIL can be a promising candidate for advanced energetic material application.

The interaction between stock prices and interest rates in Turkey:empirical evidence from ARDL bounds test cointegration

This paper demonstrates a significant,long-running relationship between stock prices and domestic interest rates in Turkey’s financial markets for the period of 2001 m1-2017 *** analysis is investigated using the autoregressivedistributed lag bounds(ARDL Bounds)test and vector autoregressive ***,cointegrating equations such as the fully modified ordinary least square,dynamic ordinary least squares,and canonical cointegrating regression are applied to check the long-run elasticities in the concerned *** ARDL Bounds and Johansen Cointegration test results show that,dynamically,both prices are significantly related to each *** cointegrating equation outcomes demonstrate elasticities whereby both coefficients have negative ***,the same results are corroborated by the impulse response where all variables respond negatively to each other.

In this paper,an experimental model of a horizontal cantilever beam with a rotating/oscillating attached to the shaker for harmonic excitation at the one end and a gyrostabilizer at the other end is built to verify the equations of the Lagrangian *** primary focus of the study was to investigate the parameters of excitation amplitude,natural frequency,rotating mass(disk mass),and disk speed of gyro that would minimize the amplitude of the beam to identify these *** and experimental results indicate that the angular momentum of the gyrostabilizer is the most effective parameter in the reduction of beam displacement.

A novel mutation of SGK-1 gene in central serous chorioretinopathy

AIm: To investigate the association of serum glucocorticoid kinase gene-1(SGK-1) DNA variants with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy(CSC).mETHODS: We enrolled 32 eyes of 32 patients who were diagnosed with chronic CSC and composed 32 normal eyes as a control group. Peripheral blood was used for DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction amplification. SGK1 gene was sequenced by using Big Dye Terminator v3.1 cycle sequencing Kit(Applied Biosystems, Foster City, CA, USA). The SGK-1 gene and its variants were investigated in CSC patient group and control ***: We identified a new polymorphism m32 V in two person in the patient group [minor allele frequency(mAF) =0.009] on the region of 1-60 amino acids. The rs1057293 was located in the encoder region of the SGK- 1 gene but not associated with CSC(P =0.68). An intrinsic rs1743966 is also not associated(P =0.28).CONCLUSION: The new polymorphism m32 V is located on the region of 1-60 amino acids which is necessary for localization to the mitochondria in CSC patient. This mutation is probably important for the energy metabolism and plays an important role in the cellular response to hyperosmotic stress and other stress stimuli. Both rs1057293 and rs1743966 are not associated with CSC.

Falls from height： A retrospective analysis

BACKGROUND: Emergency services manage trauma patients frequently and falls from height comprise the main cause of emergency service admissions. In this study, we aimed to analyse the demographic characteristics of falls from height and their relationship to the ***: A total of 460 patients, who admitted to the Emergency Department of Inonu University between November 2011 and November 2014 with a history of fall from height, were examined retrospectively. Demographic parameters, fall characteristics and their effect to mortality were evaluated statistically. RESULTS: The study comprised of 292(63.5%) men and 168(36.5%) women patients. The mean age of all patients was 27±24.99 years. Twenty-six(5.6%) patients died and the majority of them were in ≥62 years old group. The highest percentage of falls was at 0–5 years age group(28.3%). People fell mainly from 1.1–4 metres(m) level(46.1%). The causes of falls were ordered as unintentional(92.2%), workplace(8.1%) and suicidal(1.7%). Skin and soft tissue injuries(37.4%) were the main traumatic lesions. CONCLUSION: Age, fall height, fall place, linear skull fracture, subarachnoidal hemorrhage, cervical fracture, thoracic vertebra fracture and trauma scores had statistically significant effect on mortality. The casualties died because of subarachnoid hemorrhage mostly.

Background： metabolic syndrome （metS） is one of the high cardiovascular （CV） situations. Endothelial dysfunction, which is a common finding in patients with metS, is related with increased CV risk. In patients with metS, the effect of the major CV risk factors, not included in the metS definition, on endothelial dysfunction is not well known. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of major CV risk factors such as gender, smoking, family history, and biochemical parameters on endothelial dysfunction in patients with metS. methods： The study was performed between December 2010 and August 2014. A total of 55 patients （ 15 females and 40 males） with metS and 81 healthy controls （37 females and 44 males） with a body mass index 〈25 kg/m2 were enrolled in the study. Endothelial dysfunction was measured by flow-mediated dilatation （FmD）, oxidative stress parameters; high-sensitivity C-reactive protein （hs-CRP）, oxidized low-density lipoprotein （ox-LDL）, endothelial nitric oxide synthase （e-NOS）, nitric oxide, and cell adhesion markers; yon Willebrand factor, and e-selectin. Platelet aggregation （endothelial adenosine diphosphate）, total platelet count, and mean platelet volume were additionally analyzed and demographic parameters were explored. Student＇s t-test, mann-Whitney U-test, and Chi-square test were used to analyze the results. Results： The fasting blood glucose （z = 3.52, P = 0.001 ）, hs-CRP （z - 3.23, P = 0.004）, ox-LDL （z = 2.62, P= 0,013）, and e-NOS （z = 2.22, P = 0.026） levels and cardiac risk score （z - 5.23, P 〈 0.001） were significantly higher in patients with metS compared with the control group. Smoking was correlated with decreased FmD （χ2 = 9.26, P = 0.002） in metS patients but not in the control group. Conclusions： Increased ox-LDL, hs-CRP, and e-NOS are likely to be a result of oxidative stress, a condition in which an imbalance occurs between the production and inactivation of reactive nitrogen and oxygen species. In this study, it is aimed to develop the flood risk analysis of Porsuk River, which is responsible for naming of the Porsuk Basin sub basin of Sakarya Basin, by utilizing the methods of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). In addition, flood elevation effects of Porsuk River in Eskişehir city and the regions around were investigated. Necessary data for study were obtained from Eskişehir 3. Regional Directorate of State Hydraulic Works archives. For analyses, the cross section of Porsuk River was defined in the Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) software. Subsequently, recurring periods of 50, 100 and 1000 years discharge of Porsuk River which is calculated as 51.83 m3/s, 60.15 m3/s and 86.66 m3/s respectively were inputted in the software to obtain analysis results. Obtained results from the present study and topographic data were compared and interpreted. As a result, elevation of flood and its risks for urban regions were studied and presented.
