Microbial fuel cells (MFC) utilize microbes as catalysts to convert chemical energy to *** used for MFC operation must therefore contain active microbial *** dye reduction-based electron-transfer activity monitoring (DREAM) assay was employed to evaluate different inocula used in MFCs for their microbial bioelectrical *** assay utilizes the redox property of Methylene Blue to undergo color change from blue to colorless state upon microbial *** extent of Methylene Blue reduction was denoted as the DREAM assay *** assay was initially performed on a microbial culture along with the growth curve and estimation of colony forming units (CFUs).DREAM coefficient correlated to the CFU/m L obtained over time as growth *** assay was then extended to water samples (domestic sewage,lake and a man-made pond) serving as inocula in *** wastewater gave the highest DREAM coefficient (0.300±0.05),followed by pond (0.224±0.07) and lake (0.157±0.04) water *** density obtained conformed to the DREAM coefficient values,with the three samples generating power densities of 46.45±5.1,36.12±3.2 and 25.08±4.3 m W/m^2 *** have also studied the role of addition of various carbon sources and their concentrations towards improving the sensitivity of the *** DREAM assay is a rapid,easy-to-perform and cost-effective method to assess inocula for their suitability as anolytes in terms of electron transfer potential in MFCs.

Aim: To study the effect of bisphenol A on the epididymis and epididymal sperm of rats and the possible amelioration action of co-administration with vitamin C. Methods: Male Wistar rats were orally administered bisphenol A (0.2 μg·kg-1·day-1, 2 μg·kg-1·day-1 and 20 μg·kg-1·day-1) and 0.2 μg, 2μg and 20 μg bisphenol A + 40 mg vitamin C·kg-1·day-1 for 60 days. On day 61, rats were killed with anesthetic ether and sperm collected from epididymis were used for assessment of sperm count, motility and viability and biochemical studies. A 1 % homogenate of epididymis was prepared and used for biochemical estimations. Caput, corpus and cauda epididymis were fixed in Bouin's fixative for histological studies. Results: Administration of bisphenol A caused a reduction in the epididymal sperm motility and count and the sperm viability remained unchanged. The activities of superoxide dismutase and glu-tathione peroxidase decreased, while the levels of lipid peroxidation increased in epididymal sperm and epididymis at all doses. Co-administration with vitamin C reversed the effect of bisphenol A-induced oxidative stress in epididymal sperm and epididymis. A complete degeneration of epididymal epithelium in caput, corpus and cauda regions with reduction in the number of sperms were observed at all doses of bisphenol A-treated rats. Conclusion: Bisphenol A induced oxidative stress in epididymis and caused degeneration of the epididymal epithelium of rats. Co-administration with vitamin C had a protective effect against the bisphenol A-induced toxicity in epididymal sperm and epididymis.

We present a semi-analytical model incorporating the effects of edge bond relaxation,the third nearest neighbor interactions,and edge scattering in graphene nanoribbon fi eld-effect transistors(GNRFETs)with armchair-edge GNR(AGNR)*** carbon nanotubes(CNTs)which do not have edges,the existence of edges in the AGNRs has a signifi cant effect on the quantum capacitance and ballistic I V characteristics of *** an AGNR with an index of m=3p,the band gap decreases and the ON current increases whereas for an AGNR with an index of m=3p+1,the quantum capacitance increases and the ON current *** effect of edge scattering,which reduces the ON current,is also included in the model.

Optical parametric oscillation(OPO)in Kerr microresonators can efficiently transfer near-infrared laser light into the visible *** date,however,chromatic dispersion has mostly limited output wavelengths to>560 nm,and robust access to the whole green light spectrum has not been *** fact,wavelengths between 532 nm and 633 nm,commonly referred to as the“green gap”,are especially challenging to produce with conventional laser ***,there is motivation to extend the Kerr OPO wavelength range and develop reliable device ***,we experimentally show how to robustly access the entire green gap with Kerr OPO in silicon nitride microrings pumped near 780 *** microring geometries are optimized for green-gap emission;in particular,we introduce a dispersion engineering technique,based on partially undercutting the microring,which not only expands wavelength access but also proves robust to variations in resonator *** just four devices,we generate>150 wavelengths evenly distributed throughout the green gap,as predicted by our dispersion ***,we establish the usefulness of Kerr OPO to coherent applications by demonstrating continuous frequency tuning(>50 GHz)and narrow optical linewidths(sents an important step in the quest to bring nonlinear nanophotonics and its advantages to the visible spectrum.

Thiamine responsive megaloblastic anemia(TRMA),also known as Roger’s syndrome,is an exceptionally rare autosomal recessive disorder stemming from mutations in the sLC19A2 gene responsible for encoding a thiamine carrier *** syndrome manifests as the classic triad of megaloblastic anemia,sensorineural hearing loss,and diabetes ***,we present the case of a one-and-a-half-year-old male infant born to non-consanguineous parents in India,a region where TRMA cases are seldom *** five months of age,the child exhibited the characteristic symptoms,prompting immediate treatment involving thiamine therapy,insulin administration,and blood ***,the child exhibited significant improvement in all aspects except for hearing loss,which conventional hearing aids failed to ***,following a cochlear implant procedure conducted within a few months,the child regained hearing *** case underscores the importance of early recognition and intervention in the form of cochlear implant,demonstrating the potential to reverse TRMA symptoms and provide affected individuals with a substantially improved quality of life.

N-doped mesoporous alumina has been synthesized using chitosan as the biopolymer template. The adsorbent has been thoroughly investigated for the adsorption of CO2 from a simulated flue gas stream （15% CO2 balanced with N2） and compared with commercially available mesoporous alumina procured from sAsOL, Germany. CO2 adsorption was studied under different conditions of pre- treatment and adsorption temperature, inlet CO2 concentration and in the presence of oxygen and moisture. The adsorption capacity was determined to be 29.4 nag CO2/g of adsorbent at 55℃. This value was observed to be 4 times higher in comparison to that of commercial mesoporous alumina at a temperature of 55℃. Basicity of alumina surface coupled with the presence of nitrogen in template in synthesized sample is responsible for this enhanced CO2 adsorption. Adsorption capacity for CO2 was retained in the presence of oxygen; however moisture had a deteriorating effect on the adsorption capacity reducing it to nearly half the value.

Microcombs-optical frequency combs generated in microresonators-have advanced tremendously in the past decade,and are advantageous for applications in frequency metrology,navigation,spectroscopy,telecommunications,and microwave ***,microcombs promise fully integrated miniaturized optical systems with unprecedented reductions in cost,size,weight,and ***,the use of bulk free-space and fiber-optic comp on ents to process microcombs has restricted form factors to the *** microcomb-based optical frequency synthesis around 1550 nm as our target application,here,we address this challenge by proposing an integrated photonics interposer architecture to replace discrete components by collecting,routing,and interfacing octave-wide microcomb-based optical signals between photonic chiplets and heterogeneously integrated ***,we con firm the requisite performa nee of the individual passive elements of the proposed interposer一octave-wide dichroics,multimode interferometers,and tunable ring filters,and implement the octave-spanning spectral filteri ng of a microcomb,central to the in terposer,using silicon n itride phot ***,we show that the thick silicon nitride needed for bright dissipative Kerr soliton generation can be integrated with the comparatively thin silicon nitride interposer layer through octave-bandwidth adiabatic evanescent coupling,indicating a path towards future system-level *** ally,we numerically confirm the feasibility of operating the proposed in terposer synthesizer as a fully assembled *** interposer architecture addresses the immediate need for on-chip microcomb processing to successfully miniaturize microcomb systems and can be readily adapted to other metrology-grade applications based on optical atomic clocks and high-precision navigation and spectroscopy.
