Magnetic properties and magnetic entropy changes of MRE_2co_7 compounds

(La0.5ce0.5)2co7 and(ce0.65Pr0.35)2co7 compounds for magnetic refrigeration were studied by X-ray diffraction, ac susceptibility and isothermal magnetization measurements. X-ray powder diffraction shows that all the compounds have hexagonal ce2Ni7-type structure. The curie temperatures(Tc) are 258 k and 222 k for(La0.5ce0.5)2co7 and(ce0.65Pr0.35)2co7 compounds, respectively. High coercivities(Hc) of about 1.74 and 6.61 k Oe at 5 k with a smooth demagnetization curves were obtained for the(La0.5ce0.5)2co7 and(ce0.65Pr0.35)2co7 compounds, respectively. For an applied field change from 0 to 50 k Oe, the maximum(??SM) for(La0.5ce0.5)2co7 and(ce0.65Pr0.35)2co7 compounds are 0.52 and 0.67 J/(kg k), respectively.

Vibrational analysis of oxygen adsorption on the cs and cO coadsorbate precovered Ru(0001)surface was carried out by means of high-resolution electron energy loss *** submonolayer cs coverages on Ru(0001)j an appropriate amount of cO adsorption leads to formation of(2x2)-cs+2cO *** oxygen adsorption on this cs and cO coadsorbate precovered surface results in a remarkable change of high-resolution electron energy loss *** loss peak of c-O stretch mode for 2x2 island species decreases in intensity,which is accompanied by appearance of new bands at about 87 and 240 *** results show that cs adatoms and cO molecules are rearranged upon oxygen adsorption,and are correlated with coexistence of bare surface cO and a mixed phase of cs,cO,and O.

The human visual system is still an important factor in military warfare;military personnel receive training on effective search strategies,and camouflage that can effectively conceal objects and personnel is a key component of a successful integrated survivability *** methods of camouflage assessment have,amongst others,used psychophysics to generate distinctiveness ***,the population from which the human observers are drawn is often not well defined,or necessarily *** this experiment we designed a new platform for testing multiple patterns based on a camouflaged object detection task,and investigate whether trained military observers perform better than *** use a two-alternative forced choice paradigm,with participants searching images of woodland for a replica military helmet displaying Olive Green,Multi Terrain Pattern,US Marine Pattern or,as a conspicuous control,UN Peacekeeper *** data show that there is no difference in detection performance between the two observer groups but that there are clear differences in the effectiveness of the different helmet colour patterns in a temperate woodland *** conclude that when tasks involve very short stimulus presentation times,task-specific training has little effect on the success of target detection and thus this paradigm is particularly suitable for robust estimates of camouflage efficacy.

The holographic duality allows to construct and study models of strongly coupled quantum matter via dual gravitational *** general such models are characterized by the absence of quasiparticles, hydrodynamic behavior and Planckian dissipation times. One particular interesting class of quantum materials are ungapped topological semimetals which have many interesting properties from Hall transport to topologically protected edge states. We review the application of the holographic duality to this type of quantum matter including the construction of holographic Weyl semimetals, nodal line semimetals, quantum phase transition to trivial states(ungapped and gapped), the holographic dual of Fermi arcs and how new unexpected transport properties,such as Hall viscosities arise. The holographic models promise to lead to new insights into the properties of this type of quantum matter.

Very small superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles （VSOPs） rapidly accumulate in atherosclerotic lesions, thereby enabling plaque visualization by magnetic resonance imaging （MRI）. This study was performed to identify the uptake mechanisms of VSOPs into atherosclerotic plaques. Low-density lipoprotein receptor-deficient （LDLR^-/-） mice with advanced atherosclerosis were analyzed using MRI and transmission electron microscopy （TEM） at various time points after intravenous administration of VSOPs. Post-mortem MRI detected VSOP labeling of atherosclerotic plaques 10 min after injection, and the signal increased over the first 3 h. TEM revealed that the intensive plaque labeling was mediated by accelerated transcytosis of VSOPs through endothelial cells overlaying atherosclerotic lesions. Experiments with endocytosis inhibitors and small interfering RNA （siRNA） revealed a dynamin-dependent mechanism involving both clathrin- and caveolin-mediated processes. In cell culture experiments, endothelial VSOP uptake was enhanced under proatherogenic flow and TNFα stimulation, conditions that are both present in plaque areas. Our study demonstrates that VSOPs enable non-invasive MRI assessment of accelerated endothelial transcytosis, an important pathomechanism in atherosclerotic plaque formation.

Effect of plasma surface treatment of poly(dimethylsiloxane) on the permeation of pharmaceutical compounds

This paper addresses the modification of poly(dimethylsiloxane), i.e. PDMS, using plasma surface treatment and a novel application of the membrane created. A set of model compounds were analysed to determine their permeation through PDMS, both with and without plasma treatment. It was found that plasma treatment reduced permeation for the majority of compounds but had little effect on some compounds, such as caffeine,with results indicating that polarity plays an important role in permeation, as is seen in human skin. Most importantly, a direct correlation was observed between plasma-modified permeation data and literature data through calculation of membrane permeability(k_p) values suggesting plasma-modified silicone membrane(PMSM) could be considered as a suitable in vivo replacement to predict clinical skin permeation.

The author＇s process of cold fusion, was announced to International conference on Emerging Nuclear Energy Systems in 2007, then exposed to International conference on Emerging Nuclear Energy Systems in 2009, and has been applied since June, 2007 in a non-member border country of the European Union, for safety reasons, the product, of a large module of 300 cm x 40 cm, using energy of mass of 600 megawatts per hour, and unique waste, 300 cubic meters of pure water a day, instantly drinkable. The presentation which the author shall make, will contain, if it is possible, several demonstrations of a portable module, producing one megawatt per hour, and in waste one cubic meter of water per day： the authors are able to stop the module at any time. The civil applications of this process, the author developed in the articles published on the site of the European Scientific Parliament 2010, and diverse modules were the object of a protocol signed by large Asian country.
