A research was carried out to determine the period of time during which it is possible to reduce the radiation damage in mice by means of laser radiation （650 nm） after gamma irradiation. First, the mice were exposed to γ- radiation （whole body irradiation）, then after 2 h or 24 h they were irradiated with laser radiation. The results of these studies have shown that the use of laser irradiation to reduce radiation damage in mice is effective 24 h after the exposure to 5 Gy ionizing radiation which leads to the bone-marrow clinical form of the ARS （Acute radiation sickness）. In case of the lethal dose of ionizing radiation 7 Gy （the transitional clinical form of the ARS）, the increase in life expectancy of mice is observed using laser radiation both 2 and 24 h after the exposure to γ- radiation, but the effectiveness of the laser used 2 h after the ionizing radiation is significantly more efficient.

Growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) have been suggested as “anti-aging” therapies, or for improving quality of life with aging. In this study, we focus on the actions of GH in the main organs and organ systems of the human body, like skeletal muscle, bones and brain, particularly in regard to data and research on the use of GH replacement therapy in adults without growth hormone deficiency, especially elderly patients. Several different studies have been carried out to show what the effects and side effects of GH replacement in healthy people and what would be the impact in quality of life and life span. In this review, we demonstrate what answers we have so far about the effects of GH replacement in many organs and systems in healthy people.

Evaluation of Quality Parameters of White and Brown Eggs in Lebanon

The quality traits of fresh marketable chicken eggs collected during winter, autumn and summer periods from different local markets in Lebanon were evaluated in order to understand the reproductive fitness of the chicken and the correlation between collection dates. A total of 2000 brown and white eggs were analyzed and compared for their external quality parameters such as egg weight, length, width, size, shell thickness, specific gravity and for their internal quality traits such as Haugh unit, yolk diameter, yolk color, and yolk height. Results show that egg weight and size varied markedly and tended to be smaller during summer period. A significant difference was found between white and brown eggs in some quality traits such as egg weight, shell thickness, egg length, and yolk diameter parameters. Egg quality parameters were significantly reduced during summer season where eggs are exposed to high temperature conditions. For grading analysis, 80% of the total eggs were classified as A with a significant difference (p < 0.05) between white and brown egg and during collection dates. Overall, brown eggs graded better than white eggs in external quality cleanliness and shape. Based on our analysis, the results of this study show that Lebanese eggs are of good quality and suggest that proper egg handling and storage conditions should be applied especially at warm environmental conditions to improve egg quality during summer season.

Reduction of Radiation Damage in Mice after Acute and Prolonged Irradiation with Gamma Rays by Means of Laser Device

An opportunity to use laser radiation as a means to reduce negative aftermath of acute and prolonged exposure to ionizing radiation was checked. The mice were exposed to γ- rays of ^60Co （whole body irradiation） in the dose of 7 Gy （the transitional clinical form of the acute radiation sickness）. The dose rate at acute irradiation was 1.14 Gy/min, and at prolonged exposure, 0.027 Gy/min. Laser radiation in the dose l mJ/cm^2 was used to irradiate only the back of a mouse. First, the mice were exposed to γ-radiation, then to laser radiation. The time interval between two types of irradiation did not exceed 30 min. It was shown that the radiation protection of mice with laser radiation is possible at exposure to ionizing radiation in a wide dose interval and can reduce negative after-effects of both the acute and prolonged radiation exposure.

Objectives Appendicitis is one of the most commonly encountered pediatric surgical diagnoses,with non-operative management of perforated appendicitis leading to two treatment options:an interval appendectomy(IA)or expectant *** primary objective of this study was to assess parents’need for a patient decision aid(PDA)among parents considering IA or expectant management.A secondary objective was to determine parent preferences for the format and distribution plan of a drafted patient decision *** Coulter’s systematic development process for PDA was used to guide the assessment interviews for *** included caregivers of a patient who experienced perforated appendicitis,and admission between 2019 and ***-structured individual interviews were conducted to collect information about decision-making needs of parents of children who experienced perforated *** A total of 12 different parents participated in the *** indicate decisional conflict associated with the lack of evidence for optimal treatment,supporting the need for the development of a patient decision aid to assist in clarifying information and parent values with *** clearly identified a need for evidence to support decision-making in various formats(eg,pamphlet or electronic).Timing of when to deliver the PDA varied(ie,during hospital admission,at discharge,or at follow-up appointment).Conclusion Results indicated various factors contributing to parental decisional conflict,including the lack of evidence showing the optimal treatment,the need for more information,and guidance from ***,findings indicate a strong need for a patient decision aid.

Nutrient-efficient root system architecture(RSA)is becoming an important breeding objective for generating crop varieties with improved nutrient and water acquisition *** variants shaping soybean RSA is key in improving nutrient and water ***,we report on the use of an improved 2-dimensional high-throughput root phenotyping platform that minimizes background noise by imaging pouch-grown root systems submerged in *** also developed a background image cleaning Python pipeline that computationally removes images of small pieces of debris and filter paper fibers,which can be erroneously quantified as root *** platform was used to phenotype root traits in 286 soybean lines genotyped with 5.4 million single-nucleotide *** was a substantially higher correlation in manually counted number of root tips with computationally quantified root tips(95%correlation),when the background was cleaned of nonroot materials compared to root images without the background corrected(79%).Improvements in our RSA phenotyping pipeline significantly reduced overestimation of the root traits influenced by the number of root ***-wide association studies conducted on the root phenotypic data and quantitative gene expression analysis of candidate genes resulted in the identification of 3 putative positive regulators of root system depth,total root length and surface area,and root system volume and surface area of thicker roots(DOF1-like zinc finger transcription factor,protein of unknown function,and C2H2 zinc finger protein).We also identified a putative negative regulator(gibberellin 20 oxidase 3)of the total number of lateral roots.

A total of 415 samples from febrile children exhibiting either concordant (n = 108) or discordant (n = 307) results between microscopy, the gold standard diagnostic test, and two Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs), OptiMAL-IT?(pLDH) and Acon?HRP2, were analysed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from May to December 2011 in Gabon. The aim of the study was to analyse these discrepancies using poly-merase chain reaction (PCR). Nested PCR targeting the Plasmodium ssrRNA gene was used to distinguish P. falciparum, P. malariae and P. ovale. Plasmodium falciparum was the only malaria species identified. Discrepancies frequently involved samples that were negative by microscopy and positive by Acon?HRP2 (90%) or Optimal-it?(86%). The PCR assay detected submicroscopic infection in almost 23% of the microscopy-negative samples, whereas plasmodial DNA was not found in 77% of the Acon?HRP2 positive-microscopy negative samples. Although results obtained with Optimal-it? were more frequently concordant with those of PCR genotyping, the low specificity of Optimal-iT?for non-falciparum malaria parasite detection resulted in a high proportion of false negative RDTs (90%) and a high frequency of tests with faint line intensity. The present study highlights the specific attributes of the different methods used to identify malaria parasite below the microscopy level of detection. RDT results that were discordant with either microscopy or PCR as the gold standard could represent a challenge for rapid, accurate fever case management in malaria endemic areas. It is necessary to pursue the development of more precise and more sensitive point-of-care diagnostic tools for malaria.
