Effect of epidermal growth factor on buffalo frozen spermatozoa biometry and metabolic activity

Objective:To assess the effects of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on the Egyptian buffalo bull frozen semen, EGF was incorporated at 0 (control), 50, 100, 200 and 400 ng/mL of extender (Bioxcell?).methods:Semen features, spermatozoa biometry, total liberated amounts of enzymes (aspartate transaminase, alanine aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase) and lipid peroxidation markers (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, malondialdehyde, glutathione peroxidase, nitric oxide, catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD)) were determined in the spermatozoa-free extracellular extender. Results:Spermatozoa membrane integrity significantly (Ph EGF 200 ng/mL. Spermatozoa head (dimensions, area and perimeter), but not shape, as well as acrosome and midpiece measures substantially differed with regard to EGF. Principle piece length and volume markedly decreased (at 100 and 200 ng/mL), while total tail/flagellum length increased (at 50 ng/mL) after EGF supplementation. EGF 50 ng/mL was associated with the decline of nitric oxide levels and catalase enzyme activity, but EGF 100 ng/mL significantly decreased the total liberated amounts of enzymes (aspartate transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase) as well as lipid peroxidation markers (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and malondialdehyde).Conclusion:EGFin vitro supplementation would affect the semen characteristics of buffalo bull with 100 ng/mL counteracted the freezing mediated oxidative stress indicated with the lowest enzymes leakage and lipid peroxidation.

Objective： To study the effect of oral administration of dimethyl dimethoxy biphenyl dicarboxylate （DDB） on adjusting angiogeneic/inflammatory mediators and ameliorating the pathology of bones in rats with collagen-induced arthritis （CIA）. methods： Wistar rat model of CIA was set up using bovine collagen type h. Fifty rats were divided into five groups randomly： normal, CIA model, DDB treatment, methotrexate （mTX） treatment, and combined DDB＋mTX treatment. Ankle joints of rats were imaged with digital X-ray machine to show the destruction of joints. Fore and hind paw and knee joints were removed above the ankle joint then processed for haematoxylin and eosin staining. Plasma levels of vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF）, platelet derived growth factor, interleukin-8 （IL-8）, IL-4, tumor necrosis factor α （TNF-α）, and cyclooxygenase-2 （COX-2） were quantified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Nitric oxide levels were detected by Griess reagent. Results： Compared with the CIA model group, a remarkable reduction in various angiogenic （VEGF and IL-8） and inflammatory mediators （TNF-α, IL-4 and COX-2） after treatment with DDB either alone or combined with mTX （P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）. histopathological and X-ray findings were confirmatory to the observed DDB anti-arthritic effect. The DDB-treated group showed amelioration in signs of arthritis which appeared essentially similar to normal. Conclusion： Our data shed light on the therapeutic efficacy of DDB in experimental rheumatoid arthritis （RA） compared with a choice drug （mTX） and it may be offered as a second-line drug in the treatment of RA.

This paper reviews the history of coast evolution and coastal protection in the area of the abandoned Yellow River mouth in Jiangsu Province, analyzes the erosion characteristics and dynamic environment, evaluates the efficiency of coastal protection engineering works and designs the dimensions of the main seadike and offshore submerged dam. A gerneral scheme of shore protection for this area is proposed.

The adsorption of hydrogen molecule on the external surface of pure 0120 nanocapsule and endohedrallyh2 @C120 complex has been examined using the density functional theory calculations. Several different bonding configu- rations are considered for the hydrogen molecule approaching the outer surface of the considered nanocages. It has been found that the adsorbed h2 molecule bound weakly to the outer surface of the pure C1~0 nanocapsules in agreement with the recent experimental and theoretical results while, it prefers to be adsorbed rather strongly on the side wall of the endohedrally /-/2@C120 complex. The adsorption of a single layer and bi-layer of two tt2 molecules on the most stable states of the considered h2@C120 complex appears to be feasible, although the molecules of the second layer are weakly bound. Furthermore, it is found that the formation of 100% coverage is favorable thermodynamically, which corresponds to about 20% by weight storage of 1-12 molecules. Thus, surprisingly, we arrive at the prediction that the C120 nanocapsules can be implemented as a novel material for energy storage.

The effect of wall temperature on the characteristics of random combustion of micro organic particles with recirculation was investigated. The effect of recirculating in micro-combustors is noticeable, hence it is necessary to present a model to describe the combustion process in these technologies. Recirculation phenomenon is evaluated by entering the exhausted heat from the post flam zone into the preheat zone. In this work, for modeling of random situation at the flame front, the source term in the equation of energy was modeled considering random situation for volatizing of particles in preheat zone. The comparison of obtained results from the proposed model by experimental data regards that the random model has a better agreement with experimental data than non-random model. Also, according to the results obtained by this model, wall temperature affects the amount of heat recirculation directly and higher values of wall temperature will lead to higher amounts of burning velocity and flame temperature.

An investigation of the optical properties of a GaAs spherical quantum dot which is located at the center of a Ga1-xAlx As cylindrical nano-wire has been performed in the presence of an external electric field. The band nonparabolieity effect is also considered using the energy dependent effective mass approximation. The energy eigenvalues and corresponding wave functions are calculated by finite difference approximation and the reliability of calculated wave functions is checked by computing orthogonality. Using computed energy eigenvalues and wave functions, the linear, third-order nonlinear and total optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are examined in detail. It is found that （i） Presence of electric field causes both blue and red shifts in absorption spectrum; （ii） The absorption coefficients shift toward lower energies by taking into account the conduction band nonparabolicity; （iii） For large values of electric field the effect of conduction band nonparabolieity is less dominant and parabolic band is estimated correctly; （iv） In the presence of electric field and conduction band nonparabolicity the nonlinear term of absorption coefficient rapidly increases by increasing incident optical intensity. In other words, the saturation in optical spectrum occurs at lower incident optical intensities.

The coastal seawater of mediterranean of Alexandria receives large amount of discharged waters containing industrial wastes, sewage, and agricultural and domestic drainage. Fluoride and some parameters were(chemical and physical) determined. The data gave indication that the content and the amount of the discharged water largely affect the chemical composition of the coastal water. Stepwise regression analysis was highly significant and the model was very fruitful, where the observed and calculated values were mostly concordant. This may indicated that there was a relation between fluoride content in coastal seawater and its content in the discharged water.

Objective:To study genetic variation in buffalo follicle stimulating hormone beta-subunit (FShB) gene and its association with ***: In this experimental study, blood samples were collected by standard methods using EDTA anticoagulant and transrectal ultrasound examination was conducted on fertile (n=74) and infertile buffaloes with a history of anestrum (n=30) or repeat breeding (n=12). The genomic DNA was extracted for PCR followed by single strand conformation polymorphism analysis. DNA sequencing was performed for the determination of single nucleotide polymorphism ofFShB ***:The study results showed that there was genetic polymorphism with two different single strand conformation polymorphism patterns, AA and AB. The former pattern was associated with fertility in Egyptian buffaloes. Pair wise alignment of the two patterns sequences revealed that FShB pattern II (AB) has C nucleotide insertion as SNP at the site of 208 bp of sequenced ***:FShB is polymorphic in the infertile Egyptian buffaloes, suggesting its practicability as a candidate marker for female fertility.

Prediction of uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity for Travertine samples using regression and artificial neural networks

Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS) and modulus of elasticity (E) are the most important rock parameters required and determined for rock mechanical studies in most civil and mining projects. In this study, two mathematical methods, regression analysis and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), were used to predict the uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity. The P-wave velocity, the point load index, the Schmidt hammer rebound number and porosity were used as inputs for both meth-ods. The regression equations show that the relationship between P-wave velocity, point load index, Schmidt hammer rebound number and the porosity input sets with uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity under conditions of linear rela-tions obtained coefficients of determination of (R2) of 0.64 and 0.56, respectively. ANNs were used to improve the regression re-sults. The generalized regression and feed forward neural networks with two outputs (UCS and E) improved the coefficients of determination to more acceptable levels of 0.86 and 0.92 for UCS and to 0.77 and 0.82 for E. The results show that the proposed ANN methods could be applied as a new acceptable method for the prediction of uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of intact rocks.
