Hourly and monthly variations in the surface activity patterns of Hemilepistus reaumurii in arid environments of Tunisia

Life in desert ecosystems drives animals to adapt their surface locomotor activity according to environmental conditions. In this study, the hourly and monthly variations in the surface activity patterns of the terrestrial crustacean Hemilepistus reaumurii were investigated. The surface activity of H. reaumurii at the population scale was observed by collecting the hourly active individuals from the sunrise to the sunset of the studied day in each month of 2013 in the Bchachma locality, Tunisia. The collected active individuals were put in perspex boxes（on which we labeled the hourly time interval in which the individuals were collected） in the field and then transported to the laboratory for analysis. Individuals were counted, sexed, and measured in the laboratory. Despite desert conditions in the studied site, H. reaumurii was characterized by a diurnal surface activity, showing a bimodal pattern during the warm months（i.e., May to October）. However, it exhibited a unimodal surface activity pattern in the cold months（i.e., February, March, and November）. The surface activity was significantly correlated with sunrise and sunset. Moreover, a significant quadratic effect of temperature on the surface activity of H. reaumurii was observed. Furthermore, the study showed that the most important surface activity was recorded in March. The daily exploitation of the temporal niches was significantly different as a function of months. The body size of males was larger than that of females, and the body size of active individuals changed with months. All these behavioural changes in the surface activity represent an adaptive strategy of life in the arid environment.

Comparative Phenomenological Description of Even-Even Isotopes at Mass Region A ≈ 70

In the present work the nuclear structure properties and the backbending phenomena of even-even isotopes at A ≈ 70 mass region are analyzed using two simultaneous theoretical models based on a simple modified version of the collective model predictions besides an improved version of exponential model with the inclusion of pairing correlation. In general, both models successfully describe the backbending phenomena in that region. From the comparison between the predictions of the two proposed models a firm conclusion is obtained concerning the superiority of the simple improved version of the exponential model in describing the forward and down-bending region of the φ-ω2 plots.

Some new an aqueous polyurethane acrylate (waterborne binder) based on polyethylene glycol with different M. wt. mixed with polyol were carried out. Seven different polyurethane acrylate co-polymers were prepared aiming at substituting the two hydroxyl groups of polyethylene glycol (6000, 12,000 and 20,000 g/mol) and two primary hydroxyl groups of polyol through their reaction with corresponding calculated amounts of either isophorone diisoyanate or toluene diisocyanate and caped the remaining isocyanate group with either hydroxy ethyl acrylate or hydroxy propyl methacrylate to get on the polyurethane acrylate polymers [PUA]. From DSC measurement the result of Tg of synthesized PUA are in range from -8.78℃ to 36.4℃. So they can classify as soft binders. The infrared spectra, rheological properties, viscosity measurement, the weight average molecular weight, of the synthesize binders were investigated.

Comparison of Clinicopathological and Survival Features of Right and Left Colon Cancers: Experience of the Medical Oncology Department of Fez

Right-sided colon cancers (RCC) and left-sided colon cancers (LCC) have different epidemiological, physiological, pathological, genetic, and clinical characteristics, which result in differences in the course, prognosis, and outcome of disease. The objective of our study is to compare right-sided colon cancers and left-sided colon cancers regarding clinicopathological and survival characteristics. This is a retrospective study of 664 patients with colon cancer treated at the medical oncology department of Fez over a period from December 2009 to September 2020. Rectosigmoid, descending colon, and splenic flexure tumors were considered left-sided colon cancers, whereas ascending colon tumors were considered right-sided colon cancers. The Kaplan Meier method was used to estimate median survival. The study included 664 patients (female, 47%) having colon cancer with a median age of 60 years (23 - 83). Of the patients, 78.5% (n = 519) had LCC and 19.36 % (n = 128) had RCC. The rate of patients aged ≥ 65 years and the rate of patients with a family history of colon cancer was higher in the LCC patients. The proportion of poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas represented 3%, of which 63% had cancer of the right colon. There was a significantly higher proportion of higher T stage (T3-4: 62% vs 38%) in right sided tumors as compared to left sided tumors. The rate of metastatic patients was 64.1% in the RCC group and 43% in the LCC group. The median follow-up period was 14 months in the RCC group and 19 months in the LCC group with higher median overall survival in the LCC group (32 vs 21 months). We found histopathological differences between right and left sided colon cancer. Tumors on the right colon were found to be more aggressive, as expressed by poorer differentiation, higher T stage associated with a median overall survival better in left colon cancer.

Effect of using ascorbic acid and cysteamine supplementation onin-vitrodevelopment of buffalo embryos

Objective:To improvein vitro embryo production in buffalo by supplementation of L-ascorbic acid during maturation and development (experiment 1) and combination with another antioxidant as cysteamine (experiment 2).Methods:Two experiments were performed, the first one aimed to evaluate the different concentrations (0, 25, 50, 100 μM) of L-ascorbic acid on embryo developmental rate of buffalo oocytes. The L-ascorbic acid was added to the maturation and culture media. In the second experiment, oocytes were cultured in media with two type of antioxidant (ascorbic acid + cysteamine) or ascorbic acid ***:There was a significant increase in cleavage rate at 25, 50 μM than 100 μM and control group. But, the blastocyst rate was higher at 50 μM ascorbic acid than other concentrations (0, 25, 100 μM). Supplementation of ascorbic acid and cysteamine to maturation and cultured media improved embryo development than ascorbic acid ***: Using of 50 μM L-ascorbic acid duringin vitro maturation and development improve the developmental competence of buffalo oocytes, this effect was increase with the presence of cysteamine.

Physic-Chemical Evaluation of Urban Wastewater of the Town of Sidi Kacem

The goal of this study is the evaluation of pollution by the physic-chemical characterization of urban wastewaters discharged in the river R’dom of the town Sidi Kacem. The motivation of this study is multiple firstly to give an answer to the choice of methods of treatment of raw sewage and secondly to raise awareness of the pollution of the river R’dom who is a source of irrigation in the region. The physic-chemical analyses were carried out on the level of the collector 1 (domestic collector of the Zaouia District) and that of collector 2 (domestic collector of the allotments Thami Amar, road of Tangier and Saada), during the year 2012 at the same time “in situ” and at the Laboratory of Environment (Faculty of Sciences Kenitra). The polluting load out of organic matter (DBO5, DCO, MES), out of mineral matter (Cl-, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, , Na+) and out of nitrogenized matter (, , Nitrogenize total) was more important, except for the temperature and of the pH which are in conformity with the Moroccan standards of rejection. Ratios DCO/DBO5, DBO5/DCO and MES/DBO5 inform about the biodegradability of these effluents and permitted choice of the suitable treatment process. Indeed, results obtained show that the domestic effluents exceed the national standards of rejection, which requires an intervention of the competent jurisdictions in order to preserve the public health, to protect the environment and install an efficient sewage treatment plant to ensure a sustainable development.

The present study was performed in order to discern the effects of combined exposure to cadmium and mercury on liver function and histopathological alterations in male adult Wistar rats. In the present investigation, cadmium (100 mg/l) and mercury (25 mg/l) were administered orally for 10 weeks separately or in combination. The rational for studying cadmium and mercury is that both of these metals are encountered frequently in the same contaminated areas. In liver, the activities of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate amino tranferase (AST) increased significantly in the cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) alone or in combination (Cd + Hg) compared to the control suggesting that both cadmium and mercury cause hepatotoxicity spatially when co-administrated. We noted an increase in serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity in Cd and combined Cd + Hg treated groups while it decreased in Hg treated group. There was no statistically significant change in the level of total bilirubilin. Serum urea concentration showed a significant increase in the Cd and Hg groups compared to the control group. However an increase in serum creatinine concentration was noted only in the combined treated rats showing that renal insufficiency is more serious in the co-exposed group. Light microscopic examination indicated severe histological changes in the two organs under Cd and mercury influence. Results of the present investigation clearly showed that mercury has profound effects of hepatic handling of cadmium (synergistic effect) as shown by histological and biochemical results. Moreover, we observed a antagonist effect between these two toxic metals on kidney markers such as urea.

This work reports a comprehensive study on poly(Ethylmethacrylateco-Acrylonitrile)Poly(EMA-AN)nanocomposites reinforced with a hybrid mixture of nanoreiforcements based on nanocrystals of cellulose(NCC)(1 or 5%wt)and halloysite nanotubes(HNTs)(1 or 5%wt).The morphology,thermal and mechanical properties of these nanocomposites were *** dispersion of the nanofillers has been shown by scanning electron microscopy.A significant increase of the rubbery modulus and glass transition temperature were obtained upon filler addition,due to the reduction of mobility of the matrix macromolecular *** the other hand,compared with the neat Poly(EMAAN),the storage modulus of the nanocomposites increased by a factor 38 when adding 5 wt%NCC and by 17 for the same concentration of *** properties of ternary nanocomposites were furthers increased resulting from a synergistic effect of these two nanofillers.

Epidemiology of Pemphigus: A Single Center Experience in Morocco

Objective:Pemphigus is a life threatening autoimmune bullous disease which involves the skin and mucous membranes of the stratified squamous *** global distribution of Pemphigus varies according to genetic,ethnic,socioeconomic,and cultural *** purpose of our study is to evaluate the epidemiological features of pemphigus a single center in Morocco and compare our results with those reported ***:A retrospective analysis was conducted of 302 pemphigus patients seen between 1990 and 2020 in the Dermatology Department of Ibn Sina Hospital(Rabat,Morocco).We further collected all the Moroccan scientific researches published by now to ***:The average annual incidence was 0.32/100,000 *** incidence doubled to 0.72 in *** most common variant was pemphigus vulgaris(125 cases)followed by pemphigus erythematosus(99 cases),pemphigus foliaceous(40 cases),and vegetans(27 cases).The female to male ratio was 0.75,the average age at onset was 53 years old and the mean duration of the disease before diagnosis was ***:This study joins the main characteristics of pemphigus in the Maghreb and around the world(pemphigus vulgaris most frequent subtype).In 2020,an epidemiological peak occurred during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic;probably related to stress and delayed time consultation for fear of contracting the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

Genetic characterization of FSH beta-subunit gene and its association with buffalo fertility

Objective:To study genetic variation in buffalo follicle stimulating hormone beta-subunit (FSHB) gene and its association with ***: In this experimental study, blood samples were collected by standard methods using EDTA anticoagulant and transrectal ultrasound examination was conducted on fertile (n=74) and infertile buffaloes with a history of anestrum (n=30) or repeat breeding (n=12). The genomic DNA was extracted for PCR followed by single strand conformation polymorphism analysis. DNA sequencing was performed for the determination of single nucleotide polymorphism ofFSHB ***:The study results showed that there was genetic polymorphism with two different single strand conformation polymorphism patterns, AA and AB. The former pattern was associated with fertility in Egyptian buffaloes. Pair wise alignment of the two patterns sequences revealed that FSHB pattern II (AB) has C nucleotide insertion as SNP at the site of 208 bp of sequenced ***:FSHB is polymorphic in the infertile Egyptian buffaloes, suggesting its practicability as a candidate marker for female fertility.
