Maternal and Perinatal Prognosis of Arterial Hypertension and Pregnancy in a Peripheral Health Center in Mali

Introduction: Maternal mortality constitutes a public health problem and its rate is an indicator of a country’s development. Among the causes of maternal and perinatal death, high blood pressure associated with pregnancy occupies a significant part. It represents 5% of direct maternal deaths. Objective: to study the maternal and perinatal prognosis of high blood pressure during pregnancy in the Tenenkou reference health center in Mali. Methodology: This was a descriptive, analytical and retrospective cross-sectional study over a period of twelve months from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021 and involving 144 cases of high blood pressure associated with pregnancy. Results: We obtained a frequency of 11.75%. The majority of patients 70.9% were aged between 20 - 35 years. The important risk factor found was young age. During our study, 46.5% of patients had performed at least one CPN and only 13.9% performed 04 CPN. Pre-eclampsia was the most common type of high blood pressure during pregnancy, i.e. 61.1%. Eclampsia and retroplacental hematoma were the most common maternal complications, respectively 27.8% and 11.1%. The most common fetal complications were premature births and fetal distress with 20.9% and 17.4% respectively. Conclusion: Hypertension associated with pregnancy still remains a major cause of maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality in our context where diagnosis is often late. The main clinical form was preeclampsia. Eclampsia and retroplacental hematoma were the most frequent maternal complications. Fetal complications were mainly prematurity and fetal distress.

Intraguild predation among Scolothrips Iongicornis （Thysanoptera： Thripidae）, Neoseiulus californicus and Typhlodromus bagdasarjani （Acari： Phytoseiidae） under laboratory conditions

This study was carried out on the ability of predatory thrips Scolothrips longi- cornis Priesner to feed on 2 phytoseiid species and vice versa. Also the effect of predation of Neoseiulus californicus （McGregor） on Typhlodromus bagdasarjani Wainstein and Aru- tunjan and vice versa was evaluated. The larvae, prepupae, and pupae of thrips and the eggs, larvae, and protonymphs of phytoseiids were selected as intraguild prey. The in- traguild predation （IGP） among S. longicornis and 2 phytoseiid species was unidirectional and in favor of phytoseiids, i.e., S. longicornis was not able to feed on larval stages of 2 phytoseiids. However, N. californicus and T. bagdasarjani fed on the 1st instar larvae （1.39 and 0.80 per day）, 2nd instar larvae （0.87 and 0.55 per day）, prepupae （0.51 and 0.48 per day）, and pupae of thrips （0.51 and 0.49 per day, respectively）. Both phytoseiids fed on eggs, larvae, and protonymphal stages of each other. Females of N. californicus con- sumed more phytoseiid larvae （2.49 per day） than T. bagdasarjani, which consumed 1.08 N. californicus larvae per day. When Tetranychus urticae was presented as an extraguild prey, intensity oflGP between 2 species ofphytoseiids and on larval stages ofS. longicornis reduced significantly. Therefore, it is concluded that （i） IGP existed among the 3 examined species and lack of feeding of S. longicornis on 2 phytoseiid species can be justified by its feeding type （monophagy）, （ii） N. californicus was much more prone to IGP than was T. bagdasarjani.

Coexisting tubular adenoma with a neuroendocrine carcinoma of colon allowing early surgical intervention and implicating a shared stem cell origin

High-grade colonic neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) are uncommon but extremely aggressive. Their co-existence with tubular adenoma (TA) has rarely been reported. We present a 68-year-old man who was found on routine colonoscopy to have multiple colorectal TAs and an ulcerated lesion in the ascending colon. Microscopically, a poorly-differentiated invasive carcinoma juxtaposed with a TA was identified. Differential diagnosis included a poorly-differentiated adenocarcinoma, medullary carcinoma, high-grade NEC and lymphoma. The immunohistochemical profile showed positive staining for keratins, synaptophysin and chromogranin but negative for LCA, CDX2, CK7, CK20, TTF-1 and PSA, supporting the NEC diagnosis. Upon subsequent laparoscopic right hemicolectomy, the tumor was identified as a 3.0 cm umbilicated and ulcerated mass with an adjacent TA. Both TA and NEC showed positive staining for β-catenin indicating a shared colonic origin. The mitotic counts (77/10 high power fields) and a high proliferation rate (75% by Ki-67) corroborated a high-grade stratification. Mutational analysis indicated a wild-type BRAF and KRAS with mismatch repair proficiency. The AJCC (7th edition) pathologic stage is pT3, pN0, pMx. The patient received adjuvant chemotherapy with cisplatin/etoposides for three cycles and will be followed up for a year to detect recurrence. In conclusion, the co-existence of TA with high grade-NEC in our case allowed early identification and intervention of the otherwise asymptomatic but aggressive tumor. In addition, the finding of a high-grade NEC within a large TA in this case suggests a link between the two lesions and could represent a shared stem cell origin.

Predictive control of a chaotic permanent magnet synchronous generator in a wind turbine system

This paper investigates how to address the chaos problem in a permanent magnet synchronous generator（PMSG） in a wind turbine system. Predictive control approach is proposed to suppress chaotic behavior and make operating stable;the advantage of this method is that it can only be applied to one state of the wind turbine system. The use of the genetic algorithms to estimate the optimal parameter values of the wind turbine leads to maximization of the power ***, some simulation results are included to visualize the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

Fano Factor in Strained Graphene Nanoribbon Nanodevices

We investigate the Fano factor in a strained armchair and zigzag graphene nanoribbon nanodevice under the effect of ac field in a wide range of frequencies at different temperatures （10？K–70？K）. This nanodevice is modeled as follows： a graphene nanoribbon is connected to two metallic leads. These two metallic leads operate as a source and a drain. The conducting substance is the gate electrode in this three-terminal nanodevice. Another metallic gate is used to govern the electrostatics and the switching of the graphene nanoribbon channel. The substances at the graphene nanoribbon/metal contact are controlled by the back gate. The photon-assisted tunneling probability is deduced by solving the Dirac eigenvalue differential equation in which the Fano factor is expressed in terms of this tunneling probability. The results show that for the investigated nanodevice, the Fano factor decreases as the frequency of the induced ac field increases, while it increases as the temperature increases. In general, the Fano factors for both strained armchair and zigzag graphene nanoribbons are different. This is due to the effect of the uniaxial strain. It is shown that the band structure parameters of graphene nanoribbons at the energy gap, the C–C bond length, the hopping integral, the Fermi energy and the width are modulated by uniaxial strain. This research gives us a promise of the present nanodevice being used for digital nanoelectronics and sensors.

Introduction: Late pregnancies are considered a public health problem linked to maternal mortality due to their complications. These risks, which worsen with maternal age, should be better known and taken into account in monitoring these pregnancies. Objective: To evaluate the impact of age on the prevalence of obstetric and neonatal complications among parturients of 40 years old and over. Methodology: This was an 11-year retrospective analytical case control study from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2017. The study population was female patients of 40 years old or older for cases and female patients younger than 40 years of control case. Results: In total, we collected 640 cases of parturients of 40 years old and over out of a total of 84,234 deliveries during the study period;i.e. a frequency of 0.76%. Spontaneous abortion increased in patients of 40 and over with 8.28%. Hypertension and diabetes were higher of women of 40 and over, 52.65%. Concerning the method of admission: 55% of parturients of 40 and over were referrals. Incidents occurring among women of 40 and over were more pronounced than in control cases. Complications during vaginal delivery, cervical tear, perineal tear, uterine dehiscence and uterine rupture are high in our cases, i.e. 11.88%;3.59%;2.19%;2.66. During our study, depending on the type of delivery, the cesarean rate was much higher among women of 40 and over than among control cases, i.e. 54.22% versus 12.24%. Hemorrhages in the 3rd trimester were the main indications for cesarean section. Hemorrhages in the 3rd trimester were more frequent with women of 40 and over, i.e. 10.47%;5.94% versus 1.74% and 0.42%. As for the different types of malformations in parturients, women under 40 years old fetal malformations were absent in 92.29%, on the other hand they were more frequent in patients with 40 years and over, i.e. a normal frequency of 36.72%. DFT Study on Thermodynamic Parameters of CO2 Absorption into Aqueous Solution of Aliphatic Amines

Using density functional theory （DFT）, the thermodynamic parameters of the CO2 absorp-tion into the aqueous solution of the aliphatic amines including some alkylamines, alka-nolamines, diamines and a type of aminoamide were calculated. The geometry optimiza-tion and the calculation of vibrational frequencies in the gas phase were performed at the B3LYP/6-311＋ G（d,p） level of theory. Moreover, the standard solvation free energies of the studied species were computed upon the solution phase optimized geometries through the latest continuum solvation model （SMD/IEF-PCM） at the HF/6-31G（d） level of theory. With this approach, two important properties of the CO2 absorption into the aqueous so-lutions of the studied amines were evaluated： the acid dissociation constant （pKa） of the parent amines and the standard enthalpy change （ΔH^φabs） related to the CO2 absorption process. A roughly linear relationship was observed between pKa and ΔH^φabs. This finding suggests that a raise in the basicity of an amine leads to an increase in the heat released in CO2 absorption and consequently in the required energy for the regeneration of amine.
