Polymer science encompasses a different range of materials critical to industries spanning from packaging to biomedicine. Understanding the synthesis, characterization, and applications of common homopolymers and copolymers is fundamental to advancing polymer research and development. In this comprehensive review, we explore various preparation methods, including free radical, anionic, and cationic polymerization, utilized for synthesizing homopolymers and copolymers. Furthermore, we investigate solvent choices commonly employed for polymer characterization, ranging from neat conditions, polar protic and polar aprotic solvents. We also explored characterization techniques, including Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). In addition to industrial applications, we highlight the diverse biological applications of homopolymers, poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (pHeMA) and polystyrene, which find its extensive use in biomedicine. By synthesizing and analyzing this wealth of information, this review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the synthesis, characterization, and applications of homopolymers and copolymers, with a particular focus on their biological applications. This holistic approach not only contributes to advancements in polymer science and technology but also fosters innovation in biomedicine, ultimately benefiting human health and well-being.

environmentally benign carbon dioxide offers significant potential in its supercritical fluid phase to replace current reliance on a range of hazardous, relatively expensive and environmentally damaging organic solvents that are used on an extensive global basis. The unique combination of the physical properties of supercritical fluids are being exploited and further researched to continue the development and establishment of high efficiency, compact plant to provide energy and water efficient manufacturing processes. This mini-review is focused on the use and potential applications of supercritical fluid carbon dioxide for a selected range of key and emerging industrial processes as a sustainable alternative to totally eliminate or greatly reduce the requirement of numerous conventional organic solvents. examples of the industries include： chemical extraction and purification, synthetic chemical reactions including polymerization and inorganic catalytic processes. Biochemical reactions involving enzymes, particle size engineering, textile dyeing and advanced material manufacture provide further illustrations of vital industrial activities where supercritical fluid technology processes are being implemented or developed. Some aspects relating to the economics of sustainable supercritical fluid carbon dioxide processes are also considered.

A direct aqueous supercritical fluid extraction （SFe） system using carbon dioxide provides a sustainable means by which a vast range of industries may continue to depend on well established infrared （IR） techniques to determine oil-in-water. The SFe-IR method provides an environmentally friendly substitute for current national standard IR reference methods for measuring oil-in-water that rely on using increasingly restricted ozone depleting solvents whose manufacture is being phased out in accordance with international law. The SFe-IR analysis of a 500 mL water sample can be accomplished in 15 min. A rapid on-line SFe-IR calibration method has been implemented. With this calibration method, SFe-IR accuracy for determining diesel oil in 500 mL spiked water samples using single wave number measurement was 86.0%-98.8% with precision （RSD） ranging from 2.5%-7.0%. Using a general purpose calculation which involves measuring infrared absorbance values at three different wave numbers, SFe-IR method accuracy for determining diesel oil in 500 mL spiked water samples was 83.7%-92.2% with RSD 1.0%-9.3%. Data is presented that indicates current long established national standard IR reference methods involving three wave number calculations should be reviewed since, without careful consideration, the inclusion of calculated aromatic hydrocarbon species contributions to final oil-in-water concentration values may provide less accurate results.

Interaction of polymer-containing injected fluids with shale is a widely studied phenomenon, but much is still unknown about the interaction of charged polyacrylamides such as anionic and cationic polyacrylamides with shale. The nature of interaction of charged polyacrylamides with shale is not well understood, especially from the perspective of assessing the potential for polyacrylamides to cause formation damage. Zeta potential and rheological measurements were made for Chattanooga and Pride Mountain shales suspended in polyacrylamide solutions with and without inorganic salts and tetramethyl ammonium chloride（TMAC）. The change in zeta potential and viscosity with time was recorded. The magnitude of decrease in the absolute value of zeta potential with time is indicative of adsorption of polymer on the surface of shale and serves as a measure of the extent of polymer interaction with shale. The salts that were used in this study are potassium chloride（KCl）, sodium chloride（Na Cl）. This study quantified the interaction of anionic and cationic polyacrylamide with different North American *** the experimental results, it was determined that the polyacrylamides can interact strongly with shale, particularly the cationic polyacrylamide. The objective of this study was to determine the extent of interaction of anionic and cationic polyacrylamide with each shale sample in the presence of additives such as salts.

AIM To investigate which foods are the most nutrient dense sources of nutrients demonstrated by the scientific literature to play a role in the prevention and promotion of recovery from depressive disorders. MeTHODS A systematic literature review was conducted to derive a list of Antidepressant Nutrients from the 34 nutrients known to be essential for humans using level of evidence criteria. Nutritional data was extracted for a subset of foods with a high content of at least 1 Antidepressant Nutrient using a USDA database. These foods were analyzed for Antidepressant Nutrient density resulting in an Antidepressant Food Score(AFS). Plant and animal foods were analyzed separately. ReSULTS Twelve Antidepressant Nutrients relate to the prevention and treatment of depressive disorders: Folate, iron, longchain omega-3 fatty acids(ePA and DHA), magnesium, potassium, selenium, thiamine, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, and zinc. The highest scoring foods were bivalves such as oysters and mussels, various seafoods, and organ meats for animal foods. The highest scoring plant foods were leafy greens, lettuces, peppers, and cruciferous vegetables. CONCLUSION The AFS is based on a nutrient profiling system devised to identify foods with the highest nutrient density of nutrients with clinical evidence to support theirrole in depressive disorders. This list of foods and food categories with the highest density of the 12 Antidepressant Nutrients, the Antidepressant Foods, should be considered by researchers in the design of future intervention studies and clinicians as dietary options to support prevention and recovery from depression disorders.

PeGylated-L-asparaginase(PeG-ASNase)is a chemotherapeutic agent used to treat pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL).Its use is avoided in adults due to its high risk of liver injury including hepatic steatosis,with obesity and older age considered risk factors of the *** study aims to elucidate the mechanism of PeG-ASNase-induced liver *** received 1500 U/kg of PeG-ASNase and were sacrificed 1,3,5,and 7 days after drug *** triglycerides were quantified,and plasma bilirubin,ALT,AST,and non-esterified fatty acids(NeFA)were *** mRNA and protein levels of genes involved in hepatic fatty acid synthesis,β-oxidation,very low-density lipoprotein(VLDL)secretion,and white adipose tissue(WAT)lipolysis were *** developed hepatic steatosis after PeG-ASNase,which associated with increases in bilirubin,ALT,and *** hepatic genes Ppara,Lcad/Mcad,Hadhb,Apob100,and Mttp were upregulated,and Srebp-1 c and Fas were downregulated after *** plasma NeFA,WAT loss,and adipose tissue lipolysis were also observed after ***,we found that PeG-ASNase-induced liver injury was exacerbated in obese and aged mice,consistent with clinical studies of ASNase-induced liver *** data suggest that PeG-ASNase-induced liver injury is due to drug-induced lipolysis and lipid redistribution to the liver.

Diabetic eye disease is strongly associated with the development of diabetic foot ulcers(DFUs).DFUs are a common and significant complication of diabetes mellitus(DM)that arise from a combination of micro-and macrovascular *** and associated metabolic dysfunction in DM lead to impaired wound healing,immune dysregulation,peripheral vascular disease,and diabetic neuropathy that predisposes the lower extremities to repetitive injury and progressive tissue damage that may ultimately necessitate *** retinopathy(DR)is caused by cumulative damage to the retinal microvasculature from hyperglycemia and other diabetes-associated *** severity of DR is closely associated with the development of DFUs and the need for lower extremity revascularization procedures and/or *** the lower extremity,the eye may also suffer end-organ damage from macrovascular compromise in the form of cranial neuropathies that impair its motility,cause optic neuropathy,or result in partial or complete ***,poor perfusion of the eye can cause ischemic retinopathy leading to the development of proliferative diabetic retinopathy or neovascular glaucoma,both serious,visionthreatening ***,diabetic corneal ulcers and DFUs share many aspects of impaired wound healing resulting from neurovascular,sensory,and immunologic ***,alterations in serum biomarkers,such as hemoglobin A1c,ceruloplasmin,creatinine,low-density lipoprotein,and highdensity lipoprotein,are associated with both DR and *** these parameters can aid in prognosticating long-term outcomes and shed light on shared pathogenic mechanisms that lead to end-organ *** frequent cooccurrence of diabetic eye and foot problems mandate that patients affected by either condition undergo reciprocal comprehensive eye and foot evaluations in addition to optimizing diabetes management.
