Incidence of epiretinal membrane formation following treatment of diabetic retinopathy with panretinal photocoagulation therapy

AIM:To report the incidence of epiretinal membrane(ERM)formation following panretinal photocoagulation(PRP)as the treatment for diabetic retinopathy(DR).METHODS:Retrospective cross-sectional study of patient charts between January 1st,2010 to January 1st,2017 with at least 1y follow-up *** 809 patients treated with PRP for DR were evaluated for exclusion criteria and 73 eyes remained after exclusion for confounding variables related to ERM formation such as other procedures or *** were determined through medical record review and masked review of optical coherence tomography(OCT)***’s kappa was completed to determine if there was an agreement between masked retinal specialists on OCT *** logistic regression was used to determine the unadjusted odds ratio for patient and procedural characteristics on the formation of *** logistic regression was then completed on select variables that met the cutoff of 0.25 for a statistically significant contribution by the Wald test with the sequential addition of clinical variables that contributed positively to the ***:Among the 73 eyes studied,9.6%formed an ERM with an average time to formation of *** minimum power uses during PRP was found to be statistically significant between non-ERM formers and ERM formers(P=0.044).When adjusting for all selected variables aside from minimum power used,multiple logistic regression determined that for every 10 mW increase in minimum power used during PRP,there is an increase in log odds of 1.009(SE:0.003,P=0.014).CONCLUSION:The incidence of ERM formation in 2y following treatment of DR with PRP is roughly 1 in every 10 eyes treated.

This paper presents data from a 21 cm H I emission drift scan observation of a field partially covering the NGC 4636 galaxy group with the Five-hundred meter Aperture Radio Telescope(FAST). We construct a pipeline to reduce the data, and use So Fi A for source finding. When not contaminated by Radio Frequency Interference(RFI), the FAST observations are capable of detecting all of the galaxies previously detected by the Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA(ALFALFA) survey in the same region. Comparing to ALFALFA for the detections in common, the FAST data show consistent integrated spectra when the H I disks are spatially unresolved, and capture more flux when the H I disks are resolved. The FAST data further reveal 10 new detections in the region mutually covered with ALFALFA, and 18 new detections beyond the footprint of ALFALFA. All of the new detections have the matching optical counterparts. For the member galaxies of the NGC 4636 group, the detection limit of FAST is deeper by 0.4 dex in H I mass than that of the ALFALFA data. After correcting for the incompleteness caused by RFI contamination, we show that the H I detection rate of galaxies rises steeply with radius out to the virial radius of the group, and flattens beyond that. We also examine four spatially resolved galaxy systems with potential tidal interaction features in detail. Considering that the data have been taken during the“shared-risk” period before a major source of local RFI was eliminated, the results highlight the power of FAST in detecting extragalactic H I.

We derive averaging formulas for the Lefschetz coincidence numbers,the Nielsen coincidence numbers and the Reidemeister coincidence numbers of maps on infra-solvmanifolds modeled on a connected and simply connected solvable Lie group of type(R).As an application,we compare our formula for the Nielsen coincidence numbers with a result of Jezierski(1992)for pairs of maps on some infra-solvmanifolds of *** all the pairs of self-maps of a nonorientable infra-solvmanifold of Sol,we determine the sets of all the possible values of the Nielsen coincidence numbers and the Reidemeister coincidence numbers.

A rising global population and aspirational higher living standards has driven a step change in resource utilization and concomitant anthropogenic pollution across the ***-cost and scalable technologies for environmental remediation are therefore urgently sought,with an emphasis on trash-to-treasure strategies that exploit abundant but underutilized waste by-products of existing *** are carbon-rich,porous solids produced by biomass pyrolysis under anaerobic or oxygen-scarce conditions at high temperature(350–700°C),while hydrochars are produced by hydrothermal biomass carbonization at lower temperature(130–250°C)and high autogenous pressures(0.3–4.0 MPa).Bio/hydrochars possess unique physicochemical properties,notably high surface areas(100–1500 m2 g-1)and porosity(0.25–2.5 cm^(3)g^(-1))and rich surface chemistry featuring carboxylic,phenolic,hydroxyl,and carbonyl functions,amenable to chemical,physical,or biochemical modification,rendering them ideal sorbents for pollutants such as heavy metals(*** and Cr),and toxic organic(e.g.,dyes and xenobiotics)and inorganic(e.g.,SO_(2))***/hydrochars are attractive for environmental remediation of pollutant mixtures by surface complexation,redox chemistry,electrostatic interactions/ion exchange,or *** review discusses recent opportunities and challenges in creating bio/hydrochar sorbents and their nanocomposites through grafting,doping,and chemical/physical activation,for the depollution of aquatic and atmospheric environments.

Knee salvage procedures: The indications, techniques and outcomes of large osteochondral allografts

The overall incidence of osteochondral defect in the general population is estimated to be 15 to 30 per100000 *** lesions can become symptomatic causing pain,swelling and decreased function of the knee,and may eventually progress to *** the young and active population,partial or total knee arthroplasty(TKA)is rarely the treatment of choice due to risk of early *** allograft transplantation has been demonstrated to be a safe and effective treatment of large osteochondral and chondral defects of the knee in appropriately selected *** treatment reduces pain,improves function and is a viable limb salvage procedure for patients,especially young and active patients for whom TKA is not *** large dowels generated with commercially available equipment or free hand shell allografts can be implanted in more posterior *** recommendations for fresh allografts stored at4C advise implantation within 21-28 d of procurement for optimum chondrocyte viability,following screening and testing *** rates of successful allograft transplantation are observed in younger patients,unipolar lesions,normal or corrected malalignment,and defects that are treated within 12 mo of symptom *** with bipolar lesions,uncorrectable malalignment,advanced osteoarthritis,and those over40 tend to have less favourable outcomes.
