Pleuroperitoneal Leak in Peritoneal Dialysis: A Series of 10 Cases

Pleuroperitoneal Leak (PPL) is a rare, but serious complication of Peritoneal Dialysis (PD). It is the result of congenital or acquired communication between the 2 peritoneal and pleural cavities, and is often linked to high Intra-Abdominal Pressures (IAP). Its diagnosis is clinical, radiological and biological. In this article, we report 10 cases of PPL identified over a period of 13 years (2006-2019), that is to say, a prevalence of 5%. We suspected the diagnosis of FPP in front of dyspnea alone in 5 cases (50%), dyspnea associated with cough in 4 cases (40%). Catheter migration was reported in 5 patients (50% of cases). None of our patients presented with peritonitis before FPP. The pleurisy was right in 7 patients (70%). The exploratory puncture of the Pleural Fluid (PF) was performed in 3 patients, and which showed results consistent with the PD fluid. The drop in infusion volumes was required in 4 patients (40%) with an increase in the number of daily exchanges of CAPD with IVs ranges from 1200 - 1500 ml. PD was suspended in 6 patients (60%) for an average of 40 days (21 days - 60 days), 2 withdrawals from the technique were reported after the 2nd recurrence (20%). PD was stopped straight away in 1 patient with a hypo-permeable peritoneum with unsatisfactory residual renal function and a second who freely chose to stay in HD. The clinical cases presented show the great variability of FPP in terms of clinical and radiological presentation and therapeutic management, and focus on the significant risk of a transient or permanent withdrawal from the technique. According to literature data, Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery appears to be promising in the event of failure of conservative treatment, and will thus prolong the survival of the technique.

Cross-industry standard test method developments：from manufacturing to wearable robots

Manufacturing robotics is moving towards human-robot collaboration with light duty robots being used side by side with workers. Similarly, exoskeletons that are both passive(spring and counterbalance forces) and active(motor forces) are worn by humans and used to move body parts. Exoskeletons are also called ‘wearable robots' when they are actively controlled using a computer and integrated sensing. Safety standards now allow, through risk assessment, both manufacturing and wearable robots to be used. However, performance standards for both systems are still lacking. Ongoing research to develop standard test methods to assess the performance of manufacturing robots and emergency response robots can inspire similar test methods for exoskeletons. This paper describes recent research on performance standards for manufacturing robots as well as search and rescue robots. It also discusses how the performance of wearable robots could benefit from using the same test methods.

Improving Asynchronous Motor Speed and Flux Loop Control by Using Hybrid Fuzzy-SMC Controllers

This paper presents a new method combining sliding mode control(SMC) and fuzzy logic control(FLC) to enhance the robustness and performance for a class of non-linear control systems. This fuzzy sliding mode control(FSMC) is developed for application in the area for controlling the speed and flux loops of asynchronous motors. The proposed control law can solve those problems associated with the conventional control by sliding mode control, such as high current, flux and torque chattering, variable switching frequency and variation of parameters, in which a robust fuzzy logic controller replaces the discontinuous part of the classical sliding mode control law. Simulation results of the proposed FSMC technique on the speed and flux rotor controllers present good dynamic and steady-state performances compared to the classical SMC in terms of reduction of the torque chattering, quick dynamic torque response and robustness to disturbance and variation of parameters.

The architecture of the Ouargla Ksar has long been recognized as an example of adaptation to harsh climate in the deep desert of AlgeHao Over the last few decades, it has undergone some changes in its initial urban structure, due to accelerated and uncontrolled modern urbanization, that had negative implications and devaluation of its thermal characteristics. This article tries to understand the bioclimatic concept of adaptation of this Ksar and assess to what extent its morphological transformation has impacted its microclimatic conditions. This assessment is made through a comparative study between two different areas： one untransformed and the other transformed. A referential weather station situated in the suburbs was also exploited for consolidation of comparison. The investigation was undertaken using site measurements and observations.

Radial Supershapes for Solid Modeling

In the previous work, an efficient method has been proposed to represent solid objects as multiple combinations of globally deformed supershapes. In this paper, this framework is applied with a new supershape implicit function that is based on the notion of radial distance and results are presented on realistic models composed of hundreds of hierarchically globally deformed supershapes. An implicit equation with guaranteed differential properties is obtained by simple combinations of the primitives~ implicit representations using R-function theory. The surface corresponding to the zero-set of the implicit equation is efficiently and directly polygonized using the primitives,parametric forms. Moreover, hierarchical global deformations are considered to increase the range of shapes that can be modeled. The potential of the approach is illustrated by representing complex models composed of several hundreds of primitives inspired from CAD models of mechanical parts.

A comprehensive numerical study was conducted to investigate heat transfer enhancement during the melting process in a 2D square cavity through dispersion of nanoparticles.A paraffin-based nanofluid containing various volume fractions of Cu was *** governing equations were solved on a non-uniform mesh using a pressure-based finite volume method with an enthalpy porosity technique to trace the solid-liquid *** effects of nanoparticle dispersion in a pure fluid and of some significant parameters,namely nanoparticle volume fraction,cavity size and hot wall temperature,on the fluid flow,heat transfer features and melting time were *** results are presented in terms of temperature and velocity profiles,streamlines,isotherms,moving interface position,solid fraction and dimensionless heat *** suspended nanoparticles caused an increase in thermal conductivity of nano-enhanced phase change material(NEPCM)compared to conventional PCM,resulting in heat transfer enhancement and a higher melting *** addition,the nanofluid heat transfer rate increased and the melting time decreased as the volume fraction of nanoparticles *** higher temperature difference between the melting temperature and the hot wall temperature expedited the melting process of NEPCM.

Fuzzy-second order sliding mode control optimized by genetic algorithm applied in direct torque control of dual star induction motor

The direct torque control of the dual star induction motor(DTC-DSIM) using conventional PI controllers is characterized by unsatisfactory performance, such as high ripples of torque and flux, and sensitivity to parametric variations. Among the most evoked control strategies adopted in this field to overcome these drawbacks presented in classical drive, it is worth mentioning the use of the second order sliding mode control(SOSMC) based on the super twisting algorithm(STA) combined with the fuzzy logic control(FSOSMC). In order to realize the optimal control performance, the FSOSMC parameters are adjusted using an optimization algorithm based on the genetic algorithm(GA). The performances of the envisaged control scheme, called G-FSOSMC, are investigated against G-SOSMC, G-PI and BBO-FSOSMC algorithms. The proposed controller scheme is efficient in reducing the torque and flux ripples, and successfully suppresses chattering. The effects of parametric uncertainties do not affect system performance.

This study presents analysis, control and comparison of three hybrid approaches for the direct torque control (DTC) of the dual star induction motor (DSIM) drive. Its objective consists of combining three different heuristic optimization techniques including PID-PSO, Fuzzy-PSO and GA-PSO to improve the DSIM speed controlled loop behavior. The GA and PSO algorithms are developed and implemented into MATLAB. As a result, fuzzy-PSO is the most appropriate scheme. The main performance of fuzzy-PSO is reducing high torque ripples, improving rise time and avoiding disturbances that affect the drive performance.

Spiropyrimidines vanquish a significant situation in the field of heterocyclic chemistry, they are broadly utilized as an antibacterial, an inhibitor of multidrug opposition, or an antiplatelet and antithrombotic drug. Phosphate, the principal Moroccan mineral wealth occupies a vital spot in the economic sector and its valuation is a goal continually looked for. Among the conceivable outcomes of valorization, its utilization in heterogeneous catalysis which thought about an exceptionally encouraging new way. In this context, the focus on the reaction of the synthesis of spiropy-rimidine, catalyzed by natural phosphate (NP) and by fluoroapatite (Fap), are used alone or doped by cobalt. These phosphate catalysts were characterized by XRD, IR and SEM, while the synthesized spiropyrimidine was identified by IR, GC-MS and NMR. The obtained yield with fluorapatite doped by cobalt (Co/Fap), at room temperature in ethanol is very high and shows a high impact performance induced by a synergistic effect compared to that of NP alone.

A Mild and Efficient Method for the Synthesis of Acylals from Aromatic Aldehydes and Their Deprotections Catalyzed by Synthetic Phosphates under Solvent-Free Conditions

An efficient and clean preparation of acylals from aromatic aldehydes in the presence of synthetic phosphates (flourapatite and hydroxyapatite doped with ZnCl2 and ZnBr2) and acetic anhydride was achieved easily in high yields (86% - 97%) at room temperature under solvent-free conditions. Deprotection of the resulting acylals has also been attained by using the same catalysts under microwave irradiation. This method consistently has advantage of excellent yields (82% - 96%) and a short reaction time (3 - 4 min).
