Pass Appearance Time and Pass Attempts by Teams Qualifying for the Second Stage of FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil

This study aimed to clarify the difference between the not qualified teams and the qualified teams to 2nd stage in the Pass Appearance Time and passes attempted at all group stage games of World Cup 2014 and compared with World cup 2010. Results indicated changes in passing in modem football tactics. Actual playing time is represented as Net Playtime in this study. Pass Appearance Time is calculated by Net Playtime divided by passes Attempted. Pass Appearance Time of each team for the all Group stage games was calculated and compared with World cup 2010. No difference was revealed in the 2014 data between teams that did and did not qualify, though the 2010 data revealed differences. World cup 2010 data suggested that increasing passes attempts and lessening Pass Appearance Time were effective in qualifying for the 2rid stage. World cup 2014 data, however, suggested that diversity of tactics was important.

AIM: To clarify the characteristics of metabolite profiles in virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients using serum metabolome ***: The serum levels of low-molecular-weight metabolites in 68 patients with HCC were quantified using capillary electrophoresis chromatography and mass spectrometry. Thirty and 38 of the patients suffered from hepatitis B virus-related HCC (HCC-B) and hepatitis C virus-related HCC (HCC-C), ***: The main metabolites characteristic of HCC were those associated with glutathione metabolism, notably 13 γ-glutamyl peptides, which are by-products of glutathione induction. Two major profiles, i.e., concentration patterns, of metabolites were identified in HCC patients, and these were classified into two groups: an HCC-B group and an HCC-C group including some of the HCC-B cases. The receiver operating characteristic curve for the multiple logistic regression model discriminating HCC-B from HCC-C incorporating the concentrations of glutamic acid, methionine and γ-glutamyl-glycine-glycine showed a highly significant area under the curve value of 0.94 (95%CI: 0.89-1.0, P < 0.0001).CONCLUSION: The serum levels of γ-glutamyl peptides, as well as their concentration patterns, contribute to the development of potential biomarkers for virus-related HCC. The difference in metabolite profiles between HCC-B and HCC-C may reflect the respective metabolic reactions that underlie the different pathogeneses of these two types of HCC.

Meropenem, a carbapenem antibiotic, is inactive after oral administration and administered exclusively by injection. In this study, in order to address the factors involved in the oral inactivity of meropenem, in vitro permeation characteristics across rat ileal segments was investigated using diffusion cells. Moreover, stability of meropenem was evaluated in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia (JP) 1st and 2nd fluid for disintegration test. Cefotaxime, ceftibuten, and faropenem were used for comparison. The permeation of meropenem across rat ileal segments was approximately 5-fold greater in secretory direction than in absorptive direction. The secretory-oriented transport of meropenem markedly diminished by replacement of D-glucose in the experimental medium with unmetabolizing 3-O-methyl-D-glucose, suggesting that the secretory transport of meropenem was an energy-dependent process. Cefotaxime exhibited extensively secretory-oriented permeation. On the other hand, much weaker directionalities were observed in ceftibuten and faropenem. While meropenem as well as other three β-lactam antibiotics was stable in JP 2nd fluid (pH 6.8), it declined rapidly in JP 1st fluid (pH 1.2). These results suggest that, in addition to the hydrophilic property of meropenem, its instability at gastric pH and secretory transport in the small intestine are possible factors involved in the inactivity of meropenem after oral administration.

Factors Affecting Japanese HPV-Vaccination: Findings from the Semi-Structured Interviews with Adolescent Girls and Caregivers

The objective of the present study was to qualitatively assess the obstructive and facilitative factors affecting adolescent girls and their caregivers when the adolescent had received or was considering receiving the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination. Using these data, we propose recommendations for medical and nursing staff concerned with HPV vaccination. Participants were 20 adolescent girls (aged 10 - 19 years) and their caregivers, who had visited any of the 3 pediatric clinics in the Tokyo metropolitan area during a specified period since HPV vaccination began in Japan. The girls and their caregivers were separately interviewed by 2 child and/or family nursing care specialists with a semi-structured interview. The responses were qualitatively analyzed by 2 specialists, and the obstructive and facilitative factors affecting participants’ decision to receive HPV vaccination were extracted from the responses. Among the 20 sets of participants, 7 adolescents had completed HPV vaccination, 9 were going to receive vaccination, and 4 had not received any vaccination. The obstructive/facilitative factors related to considering or receiving HPV vaccination and actual vaccination were extracted and 4 main categories of factors were identified. Facilitators toward HPV-vaccination of daughters included clear future self-image and visions, fear Cervical Cancer (CC) and desire to escape from CC, having discussion with mothers about HPV-vaccination and CC, and to have a boyfriend. Barriers toward vaccination included the mothers’ reluctance to explain the sexual matters about HPV-vaccination to their daughters and difficulty with find the appropriate clinic or hospital to HPV-vaccination. Relevant factors about vaccination included positive family attitudes toward vaccination, having family system allowing consultation and having a public financial support for vaccination for daughters. AIM:To evaluate the effectiveness of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy(HAIC) for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) resistant to transarterial chemoembolization(TACE).METHODS:This study was conducted on 42 patients who received HAIC for advanced HCC between 2001and 2010 at our hospital.5-fluorouracil(5-FU) was administered continuously for 24 h from day 1 to day 5 every 2-4 wk via an injection ***-arterial cisplatin or subcutaneous interferon was administered in combination with the *** patients enrolled in this retrospective study were divided into two groups according to whether or not they fulfilled the criteria for resistance to TACE proposed by the Japan Society of Hepatology in 2010(written in Japanese);one group of patients who did not fulfill the criteria for TACE resistance(group A,n = 23),and another group who fulfilled the criteria for TACE resistance(group B,n = 19).We compared the outcomes in terms of the response and survival rates between the two ***:Both the response rate and tumor suppression rate following HAIC were significantly superior in group A than in group B(response rate:48% vs 16%,P = 0.028,tumor suppression rate:87% vs 53%,P = 0.014).Furthermore,both the progression-free survival rate and survival time were significantly superior in group A than in group B(3-,6-,12-,and 24-mo = 83%,70%,29% and 20% vs 63%,42%,16% and 0%,respectively,P = 0.040,and 9.8 mo vs 6.2 mo,P = 0.040).A multivariate analysis(Cox proportional hazards regression model) showed that resistance to TACE was an independent predictor of poor survival(P = 0.007).CONCLUSION:HAIC administrating 5-FU was not effective against advanced HCC resistant to *** tools for treatment,i.e.,molecular-targeting agents may be considered for these cases.
