Phonopheresis Associated with Nanoparticle Gel from Phyllanthus amarus Relieves Pain by Reducing Oxidative Stress and Proinflammatory Markers in Adults with Knee Osteoarthritis

Objective: To determine the changes in serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers and antioxidant levels among the knee osteoarthritis(OA) patients after treatment with Phyllanthus amarus(PP) by nanoparticle gel phonophoresis. Methods: This study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-control, parallel-group, clinical trial involving 30 subjects with mild-to-moderate degree of knee OA. The patients were allocated to two groups using a computer-generated random numbers, and received conventional ultrasound therapy(control group, 15 cases) and PP(treatment group, 15 cases) once daily for 10 sessions. The pain was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS). Serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbnent assay(ELISA). Nitric oxide(NO) was determined by modified Griess reagent. The antioxidant effects, including superoxide dismutase(SOD) and total antioxidant capacity(TAC), were also measured by ELISA assay. Results: The VAS score was significantly decreased in the treatment group compared with the control group after treatment(P<0.01). The serum concentrations of TNF-α and NO were significantly reduced in the treatment group compared with the control group(P<0.01) after treatment. However, the serum concentrations of SOD and TAC in the treatment group were significantly higher after treatment compared with the control group(P<0.01). Conclusion: PP could alleviate knee pain and significantly reduce systemic antiinflammatory effects in knee OA patients.

Background:In recent years,there has been increased research interest in both smartphone addiction and social media addiction as well as the development of psychometric instruments to assess these constructs.However,there is a lack of psychometric evaluation for instruments assessing smartphone addiction and social media addiction in Thailand.The present study evaluated the psychometric properties and gender measurement invariance of the Thai version of the Smartphone Application-Based Addiction Scale(SABAS)and Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale(BSMAS).Method:A total of 801 Thai university students participated in an online survey from January 2022 to July 2022 which included demographic information,SABAS,BSMAS,and the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form(IGDS9-SF).Results:Confirmatory Factor Analyses(CFAs)found that both the SABAS and BSMAS had a one-factor structure.Findings demonstrated adequate psychometric properties of both instruments and also supported measurement invariance across genders.Moreover,scores on the SABAS and BSMAS were correlated with scores on the IGDS9-SF.Conclusion:The results indicated that the SABAS and BSMAS are useful psychometric instruments for assessing the risk of smartphone addiction and social media addiction among Thai young adults.

Development of Eggshell Waste Incorporated with a Porous Host as a Humidity Adsorption Material

The duck eggshell waste was developed to the novel desiccant that is friendly to human and environment.The calcium oxide(Ca O)and calcium chloride(CaCl_(2))as the calcium-based desiccants were prepared from eggshell waste.The Ca O desiccant derived from the eggshell waste sintering at 1300℃,while the CaCl_(2)desiccant was extracted from eggshell waste with the hydrochloric(HCl)solution at difierent concentrations from 5 to 30 wt%.The yield percentage of CaCl_(2)desiccant increased with increasing the HCl concentration to 25 wt%.The humidity adsorption behavior were investigated in the range of 75%-5%relative humidity.The results show the CaCl_(2)desiccant has the highest hydration rate.The porous host from the kaolin was sintered at different temperatures from 200 to 1000℃and incorporated with 30%w/v concentrations of CaCl_(2).The physical properties and the humid-adsorption capacity of all porous host conditions were investigated.The porous host at sintering temperature 800℃has the highest specific surface area.Moreover,the porous host at sintering temperature 800℃with the 30%w/v concentration of CaCl_(2)desiccant has the highest humid-adsorption capacity.

Iron overload is a condition involving excessive iron deposit in various organs,the liver being the main target organ for iron deposition and overload which are associated with significant liver morbidity and mortality.Iron overload can be categorized into primary and secondary causes.Primary iron overload,so-called hereditary hemochromatosis,is a wellrecognized disease with available standard treatment recommendations.However,secondary iron overload is a more diverse disease with many unclear areas to be explored.Secondary iron overload is more prevalent than primary iron overload and occurs as a consequence of various causes which differ significantly across geographic regions.The main causes of secondary iron overload are iron-loading anemias,and chronic liver disease.The liver-related outcomes,patient outcomes,and treatment recommendations in these patients differ depending on the cause of iron overload.This review summarizes the causes,pathophysiology,liver-related outcomes,disease outcomes,and treatments of secondary iron overload.

Effect of chemical admixtures on properties of high-calcium fly ash geopolymer

Owing to the high viscosity of sodium silicate solution, fly ash geopolymer has the problems of low workability and rapid setting time. Therefore, the effect of chemical admixtures on the properties of fly ash geopolymer was studied to overcome the rapid set of the geo-polymer in this paper. High-calcium fly ash and alkaline solution were used as starting materials to synthesize the geopolymer. Calcium chloride, calcium sulfate, sodium sulfate, and sucrose at dosages of 1wt% and 2wt% of fly ash were selected as admixtures based on concrete knowledge to improve the properties of the geopolymer. The setting time, compressive strength, and degree of reaction were recorded, and the microstructure was examined. The results show that calcium chloride significantly shortens both the initial and final setting times of the geopolymer paste. In addition, sucrose also delays the final setting time significantly. The degrees of reaction of fly ash in the geopolymer paste with the admixtures are all higher than those of the control paste. This contributes to the obvious increases in compressive strength.

Validation of different pediatric triage systems in the emergency department

BACKGROUND: Triage system in children seems to be more challenging compared to adults because of their different response to physiological and psychosocial stressors. This study aimed to determine the best triage system in the pediatric emergency department.METHODS: This was a prospective observational study. This study was divided into two phases. The fi rst phase determined the inter-rater reliability of fi ve triage systems: Manchester Triage System(MTS), Emergency Severity Index(ESI) version 4, Pediatric Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale(CTAS), Australasian Triage Scale(ATS), and Ramathibodi Triage System(RTS) by triage nurses and pediatric residents. In the second phase, to analyze the validity of each triage system, patients were categorized as two groups, i.e., high acuity patients(triage level 1, 2) and low acuity patients(triage level 3, 4, and 5). Then we compared the triage acuity with actual admission.RESULTS: In phase I, RTS illustrated almost perfect inter-rater reliability with kappa of 1.0(P<0.01). ESI and CTAS illustrated good inter-rater reliability with kappa of 0.8–0.9(P<0.01). Meanwhile, ATS and MTS illustrated moderate to good inter-rater reliability with kappa of 0.5–0.7(P<0.01). In phase II, we included 1 041 participants with average age of 4.7±4.2 years, of which 55% were male and 45% were female. In addition 32% of the participants had underlying diseases, and 123(11.8%) patients were admitted. We found that ESI illustrated the most appropriate predicting ability for admission with sensitivity of 52%, specifi city of 81%, and AUC 0.78(95%CI 0.74–0.81).CONCLUSION: RTS illustrated almost perfect inter-rater reliability. Meanwhile, ESI and CTAS illustrated good inter-rater reliability. Finally, ESI illustrated the appropriate validity for triage system.

Local Structure Analysis of Lead Zinc Niobate-Barium Titanate Ceramic by X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy and Density Functional Calculation

The local structure of an alternative Pb（Zn1/3Nb2/3）O3-based perovskite ceramic is investigated. The 0.07BaTiO33-0.93Pb（Zn1/3Nb2/3）O3 ceramic is synthesized using a combination of Zn3Nb2O8 B-site precursor and BaTiO33 perovskite phase stabilizer. Then, x-ray absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory are employed to calculate the local structure configuration and formation energy of the prepared samples. Ba2＋ is found to replace Pb2＋ in AA-site with Zn2＋ occupying BB-site in Pb（Zn1/3Nb2/3）O3, while in the neighboring structure, Ti4＋4＋ replaces Nb5＋5＋ in BB-site with Pb2＋2＋ occupying AA-site. With the substitution of BaTiO33 in Pb（Zn1/3Nb2/3）O3, the bond length between Zn2＋ and Pb2＋ is longer than that of the typical perovskite phase of Pb（Zn1/3Nb2/3）O3. This indicates the key role of BaTiO33 in decreasing the steric hindrance of Pb2＋ lone pair, and the mutual interactions between Pb2＋ lone pair and Zn2＋ and the formation energy is seen to decrease. This finding of the formation energy and local structure configuration relationship can further extend a fundamental understanding of the role of BaTiO33 in stabilizing the perovskite phase in PbZn13Nb23O3-based materials, which in turn will lead to an improved preparation technique for desired electrical properties.

Rice is the staple food for about half of the world’s population.Preferred by consumers,aromatic rice is a special type of rice with great commercial value.Cooking and eating qualities and aroma are the major grain qualities favored by most consumers.Currently,most of the available aromatic varieties have low yields and some undesirable agronomic traits.Thus,there is an urgent need to develop better aromatic rice varieties.This work aims to identify rice germplasm lines that have good grain quality and to develop new varieties with desirable traits.Thirty-six out of 188 germplasm lines were found to have betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (badh2) controlling the aroma and were analyzed for their 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP) contents.Then,17 of those lines were found to have alleles for low amylose content and low gelatinization temperature,controlled by waxy and starch synthase Ⅱa (SSⅡa),respectively,suggesting that they are aromatic rice lines with high cooking and eating qualities.A total of 158 F_(7)recombinant inbred lines (RILs) generated from five crosses of the selected germplasm lines were planted for phenotypic and yield observations,resulting in 27 F_(8)RILs selected for yield evaluation and genotyping.Finally,four out of the seven F_(9)aromatic RILs showed high yield,high 2AP production,and low amylose content,in agreement with their genotypes.The other three F9RILs were aromatic rice lines with high amylose content and high yield.Because consumer preferences for grain quality vary depending on regions and ethnic groups,the high-yielding aromatic RILs generated from this study can be used to increase the yield of Thai rice and to raise market value and farm profits.

随着中泰两国在文化、经济以及各个领域上的交流与合作的密切,中国与泰国两国之间的交流日益频繁,笔者作为泰国留学生,通过工作与学习,逐渐认识到中文对自身成长的重要性,以及中国对世界各国的影响力,泰国社会对中文教育人才的需求正在不断增加,这就促使越来越多的泰国人开始学习汉语。泰国有关语言教育的政策,特别是汉语言文学的教育政策及其发展、演变和实施情况,这是我们深刻认识新时期汉语教育发展方向、解决汉语发展中存在问题的有力举措。本篇文章选用了归纳法,从多方位、多角度来研究泰国汉语的教育政策是如何进行历史性的演变的,采用调查问卷形式、访谈形式,将泰北清莱府基础教育阶段、高等教育阶段的汉语教师和华文学校的教师作为调查和访谈对象,详细了解汉语教育政策在泰北清莱府的实施情况,重点分析了现阶段汉语教育政策下清莱府不同阶段包括基础教育、高等教育和华文学校的汉语教育教学现状以及清莱府汉语教育发展存在的问题,并且提出建议。本论文的研究结果发现,泰国的汉语教育政策普及性不够强,另外,政策颁布后相关部门没有积极跟进政策的实施结果;泰北汉语教育质量难以保证,清莱府基础教育阶段的相当一部分学校的汉语周课时数未达到汉语教育政策的规定;师资缺乏,华校教师资历不足;清莱府汉语教材普遍存在的问题是缺乏较为适合的国际化汉语教材,另一个问题是教材简繁体字混杂、不统一。笔者指出要增加汉语教育政策的具体可操作性、前瞻性以及与个人发展息息相关的实施意义,同时也要听取一线汉语教师的建议,不断补充和完善汉语教育政策;强化并执行汉语教师标准,定期表彰从事汉语教学的优秀泰国教师,鼓励更多优秀的汉语学习者回泰国从事汉语教学工作;优化汉语教材,提高汉语教学,从而有力推动未来汉语在泰国的传播。

Variability Study of the SX Phoenicis Star BL Camelopardalis

New time-series photometric observations of BL Cam in the V band and white light were made during 2005 to 2007 at the Xinglong Station of China. The frequency analysis confirms two closely separated frequencies, 25.181 d^-1 and 25.571 d^-1, but the frequency of 31-32 d^- 1 reported in the literature was not detected in the new data. New times of maximum light were determined from both our light curves and those available on Internet, allowing a more comprehensive study of the O - C diagram, together with the times of maximum light in the literature. A new interpretation, including the period increasing before 1988 and decreasing since 1992 of BL Cam and the light-time effect in a binary system, looks plausible.
