The effects of desiccation cracking in clay soils on geotechnical constructions are *** study investigates the viability of utilizing Enzyme-induced calcite precipitation(EICP),a bio inspired approach,as a potential solution for addressing desiccation cracking in fine-grain *** the EICP technique,crude soybean extract is employed for the purpose of urea *** fluid samples,including a control sample,a cementation solution containing 1 M urea,0.675 M CaCl_(2),and 4 g/L milk,along with various concentrations of enzyme solutions(3-80 g/L),were tested for the *** evaluate the surface cracking patterns,the method involved constant monitoring and photo recording using a high-resolution camera aided by image processing *** results showed that fine-grain soils improved from increased calcite precipitation and decreased desiccation cracking intensity when the EICP method was *** and enzyme solution with low concentrations(3 g/L and 10 g/L)had similar effects on crack remediation,suggesting a modest *** contrast to the sample treated with water,the crack network remained unaltered in this ***3 precipitation within the void area kept the crack network in place even as the void thickness decreased at increasing enzyme concentrations(30 g/L,50 g/L,and 80 g/L).Wetting and drying cycles were found to decrease the crack ratio,crack width,and crack length in the EICP-treated sample,particularly under higher concentrations of urease *** enzyme concentrations of 3 g/L and 10 g/L have minimal impact on crack remediation but effectively inhibit new crack ***,higher enzyme concentrations result in calcium carbonate precipitates,forming a soil crust and increasing surface *** study aims to enhance understanding of the EICP methodology and to provide novel perspectives on potential uses for soil enhancement.

Changes in properties of tar obtained during underground coal gasification process

In this study,the composition of tars collected during a six-day underground coal gasification(UCG)test at the experimental mine‘Barbara’in Poland in 2013 was *** the test,tar samples were taken every day from the liquid product separator and analysed by the methods used for testing properties of typical coke oven(coal)*** obtained results were compared with each other and with the data for coal *** gasification progressed,a decreasing trend in the water content and an increasing trend in the ash content were *** tars tested were characterized by large changes in the residue after coking and content of parts insoluble in toluene and by smaller fluctuations in the content of parts insoluble in *** tested samples were characterized by very high distillation losses,while for samples starting from the third day of gasification,a clear decrease in losses was visible.A chromatographic analysis showed that there were no major differences in composition between the tested tars and that none of the tar had a dominant component such as naphthalene in coal *** content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)in UCG tars is several times lower than that in coal *** light monoaromatic hydrocarbons(benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes—BTEX)were found in the analysed tars,which results from the fact that these compounds,due to their high volatility,did not separate from the process gas in the liquid product separator.

Navigating the genomic instability mine field of osteosarcoma to better understand implications of non-coding RNAs

Osteosarcoma is one of the most genomically complex cancers and as result,it has been difficult to assign genomic aberrations that contribute to disease progression and patient outcome consistently across *** potential source for correlating osteosarcoma and genomic biomarkers is within the non-coding regions of RNA that are differentially ***,it is unsurprising that a cancer classification that is fraught with genomic instability is likely to have numerous studies correlating non-coding RNA expression and function have been published on the *** review undertakes the formidable task of evaluating the published literature of noncoding RNAs in *** is not the first review on this topic and will certainly not be the *** review is organized with an introduction into osteosarcoma and the epigenetic control of gene expression before reviewing the molecular function and expression of long non-coding RNAs,circular RNAs,and short non-coding RNAs such as microRNAs,piwi RNAs,and short-interfering *** review concludes with a review of the literature and how the biology of non-coding RNAs can be used therapeutically to treat cancers,especially *** conclude that non-coding RNA expression and function in osteosarcoma is equally complex to understanding the expression differences and function of coding RNA and proteins;however,with the added lens of both coding and non-coding genomic sequence,researchers can begin to identify the patterns that consistently associate with aggressive osteosarcoma.

Two-dimensional(2D)MXenes have emerged as an archetypical layered material combining the properties of an organic-inorganic hybrid offering materials sustainability for a range of *** surface functional groups and the associated chemical properties'tailorability through functionalizing MXenes with other materials as well as hydrophilicity and high conductivity enable them to be the best successor for various applications in textile industries,especially in the advancement of smart textiles and remediation of textile ***-based textile composite performs superb smartness in high-performance wearables as well as in the reduction of textile dyes from *** article critically reviews the significance of MXenes in two sectors of the textile ***,we review the improvement of textile raw materials such as fiber,yarn,and fabric by using MXene as electrodes in supercapacitors,pressure ***,we review advancements in the removal of dyes from textile wastewater utilizing MXene as an absorbent by the adsorption ***-based textiles demonstrated superior strength through the strong bonding between MXene and textile structures as well as the treatment of adsorbate by adsorbent(MXene in the adsorption process).We identify critical gaps for further research to enable their real-life applications.

A Simple,Efficient and Rapid Method for Good Quality DNA Extraction from Rice Grains

An efficient and good DNA extraction protocol should be simple, affordable and yield enough DNA with high quality. Rice(Oryza sativa L.) DNA extraction methods often use seedlings or leaves rather than the grains and tend to be time-consuming, involve multiple steps, and use hazardous chemicals and expensive enzymes. Rice grains offer several benefits over seedlings and leaves as a source of DNA for genetic analysis. However, these benefits are underutilized because the bulk of a rice grain is made up of starch. It is particularly important, but difficult to get rid of the starch while extracting DNA from rice grains. This co-precipitated polysaccharide is a known inhibitor of DNA polymerase activity in polymerase chain reaction(PCR). We describe here a very simple and highly affordable Chelex~?-100 based DNA extraction method from rice grains. It does not require any hazardous chemicals or enzymes. This method reproducibly extracts DNA with good purity indices(A_(260)/A_(230) and A_(260)/A_(280) values), but requires only a few steps.

Efficient photoelectrochemical conversion of CO_(2)to syngas by photocathode engineering

The synthesis of renewable chemical fuels from CO_(2) and H_(2)O via photoelectrochemical(PEC)route reprensents a promising room-temperature approach for transforming greenhouse gas into value-added chemicals(e.g.,syngas),but to date it has been hampered by the lack of efficient photocathode for CO_(2) ***,we report efficient PEC CO_(2) reduction into syngas by photocathode *** photocathode is consisting of a planar p-n Si junction for strong light harvesting,GaN nanowires for efficient electron extraction and transfer,and Au/TiO_(2)for rapid electrocatalytic syngas *** photocathode yields a record-high solar energy conversion efficiency of 2.3%.Furthermore,desirable syngas compositions with CO/H_(2)ratios such as 1:2 and 1:1 can be produced by simply varying the size of Au *** calculations reveal that the active sites for CO and H_(2)generation are the facet and undercoordinated sites of Au particles,respectively.

Removal of Ammonia from Wastewater Effluent by Chlorella Vulgaris

The capability of Chlorella vulgaris to remove nitrogen in the form of ammonia and/or ammonium ions from wastewater effluent in a local wastewater treatment plant （i.e., the Mill Creek Plant in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A.） was studied. The wastewater effluent leaving the plant was found to include high concentra- tions of nitrogen （7.7±0.19 mg/L）（ammonia （NH3） and/or ammonium ion （NH4＋）） and total inorganic carbon （58.6±0.28 mg/L） at pH 7, and to be suitable for growing Chlorella vulgaris. When Chlorella vulgaris was cul- tivated in a batch mode under a closed system, half of the nitrogen concentration was dramatically removed in 48 h after a 24-h lag-phase period. Total inorganic carbon concentration also concomitantly decreased during the rapid growth-phase. The total biomass weight gained during the entire cultivation period balanced out well with the total amount of inorganic carbon and nitrogen removed from the culture medium. These results indicate that wastewater can be synergistically used to polish residual nutrients in wastewater as well as to cultivate microalgae for biofuel production.

On chip chiral and plasmonic hybrid dimer or tetramer:Generic way to reverse longitudinal and lateral optical binding forces

For both the longitudinal binding force and the lateral binding force,a generic way of controlling the mutual attraction and repulsion(usually referred to as reversal of optical binding force)between chiral and plasmonic hybrid dimers or tetramers has not been reported so *** this paper,by using a simple plane wave and an onchip configuration,we propose a possible generic way to control the binding force for such hybrid objects in both the near-field region and the far-field *** also investigate different inter-particle distances while varying the wavelengths of light for each inter-particle distance throughout the *** of all,for the case of longitudinal binding force,we find that chiral-plasmonic hybrid dimer pairs do not exhibit any reversal of optical binding force in the near-field region nor in the far-field region when the wavelength of light is varied in an air ***,when the same hybrid system of nanoparticles is placed over a plasmonic substrate,a possible chip,it is possible to achieve a reversal of the longitudinal optical binding ***,for the case of lateral optical binding force,we investigate a setup where we place the chiral and plasmonic tetramers on a plasmonic substrate by using two chiral nanoparticles and two plasmonic nanoparticles,with the setup illuminated by a circularly polarized plane *** applying the left-handed and the right-handed circular polarization state of light,we also observe the near-field and the far-field reversal of lateral optical binding force for both *** far as we know,so far,no work has been reported in the literature on the generic way of reversing the longitudinal optical binding force and the lateral optical binding force of such hybrid *** a generic way of controlling optical binding forces can have important applications in different fields of science and technology in the near future.

本研究通过计算研究了Mxene-大豆油纳米流体在单个太阳能托盘中的热学和流体行为。太阳能托盘具有输入口和输出口。在稳定的热通量下,将Mxene纳米流体以不同的体积浓度泵送通过太阳能板。采用计算流体动力学(CFD)流体流动辐射模型,利用太阳能板模拟Mxene纳米流体的热物理实验数据。研究了温度、内能、努塞尔数、传热速率、表面传热系数和表面摩擦因数等热力学和流体力学参数的影响。对于Mxene纳米流体,出口温度、内能和表面摩擦因数的最大增幅分别为3.46%、1.2%和11%。太阳能板的效率提高了30%~32%。此外,新开发的Mxene纳米流体具有很好的热应用前景,热物性能也经过方差分析得到证实。
