Pyunkang-hwan (Pyunkang-Tang) ameliorates air pollutant-induced inflammatory hypersecretion of airway mucus and bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Pyunkanghwan(Pyunkang-tang) extract(PGT) on secretion of airway mucin in an experimental animal model involving hyperplasia of goblet cells and mucus hypersecretion, and to test its effects on bleomycin(BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis in ***: The protective activity of orally administered PGT was assessed in two rat pulmonary disease models. Effects on hypersecretion of pulmonary mucin in sulfur dioxide(SO_2)-induced bronchitis in rats were assessed by quantifying the amount of mucus secreted and examining histopathology in the tracheal epithelium. In a rat model for BLMinduced pulmonary fibrosis, toxicity to the pulmonary system was examined by measuring levels of malondialdehyde and hydroxyproline,indicators of lipid peroxides and collagen,respectively, in lung tissue 28 days post-BLM treatment. Serial sections of lung tissue were stained with Masson trichrome to visualize collagen deposition. Effects of PGT on collagen synthesis were also assessed in vitro, in a cell culture ***: PGT inhibited mucin secretion and normalized SO_2-induced increased muco- substances in goblet cells. In the BLM- induced model,PGT decreased the characteristic histopathological features of lung fibrosis and inhibited fibrotic lesions, as indicated by decreased hydroxyproline content. PGT also inhibited the BLM-induced increase in malondialdehyde levels, demonstrating its protective effect against lipid peroxidation in cell membranes of the lung. In MLg 2908 mouse lung fibroblast cells, PGT decreased transforming growth factor(TGF)-β-stimulated type I collagen ***: PGT can inhibit both hypersecretion of airway mucins and pulmonary fibrosis.

Synthesis of shape-controlled Pt nanocrystals is substantial and important for enhancing chemical and electrochemical ***,the removal of capping agents,shape-controlling chemicals,on Pt surfaces is essential prior to conducting the catalytic *** we report a facile one-pot synthesis of Pt nanocubes directly grown on carbon supports(Pt nanocubes/C) with modulating the kinetic reaction factors for shaping the nanocrystals,but without adding any capping agents for preserving the clean Pt ***-dispersed Pt nanocubes/C shows enhanced activity and long-term stability toward methanol oxidation reaction compared to the commercial Pt/C catalyst.

Fluorine doping for improved thermoelectric properties of spark plasma sintered bismuth telluride

Bismuth-telluride(Bi_(2)Te_(3))is considered to have the best thermoelectric properties at room temperature(ca.300 K).Thus,synthesis and improvement of Bi_(2)Te_(3)and its derivatives quickly and cost-effectively at favorite temperatures are of ***,doping fluorine(F)into electronic materials(e.g.,FTO)has gained attention;however,it is not applied to Bi_(2)Te_(3)till ***,our synthesis of F-doped Bi_(2)Te_(3)for thermoelectric application is introduced using spark plasma sintering(SPS)for Bi_(2)Te_(3)preparation and reactive ion etching(RIE,with SF_6 gas)for *** exposure time of SF_6 plasma is adjusted to evaluate F-doping effect on the thermoelectric properties of the *** characterizations,the increased electrical conductivity and the improved Seebeck coefficient of F-doped Bi_(2)Te_(3)are *** spectroscopic studies and DFT calculations,the main mechanism behind that improvement is *** also emphasizes the essential role of the F-doping(optimum treatment time of 40 s)in increasing the carrier concentrations as well as electrical *** increasing measurement temperature(300-510 K),F-doping raises the figure of merit of electron rich Bi_(2)Te_(3)from 1.0 to 1.11(peaked at 390 K).

Usefulness of colonic tattooing using indocyanine green in patients with colorectal tumors

AIM To prove that tattooing using indocyanine green(ICG) is feasible in laparoscopic surgery for a colon *** From January 2012 to December 2016, all patients who underwent laparoscopic colonic surgery were retrospectively screened, and 1010 patients with colorectal neoplasms were included. Their lesions were tattooed with ICG the day before the operation. The tattooed group(TG) included 114 patients, and the non-tattooed group(NTG) was selected by propensity score matching of subjects based on age, sex, tumor staging, and operation method(n = 228). In total, 342 patients were enrolled. Between the groups, the changes in [Delta(Δ), preoperative-postoperative] the hemoglobin and albumin levels, operation time, hospital stay, oral ingestion period, transfusion, and perioperative complications were compared. RESULTS Preoperative TG had a shorter operation time(174.76 ± 51.6 min vs 192.63 ± 59.9 min, P < 0.01), hospital stay(9.55 ± 3.36 d vs 11.42 ± 8.23 d, P < 0.01), and postoperative oral ingestion period(1.58 ± 0.96 d vs 2.81 ± 1.90 d, P < 0.01). The Δ hemoglobin(0.78 ± 0.76 g/dL vs 2.2 ± 1.18 g/dL, P < 0.01) and Δ albumin(0.41 ± 0.44 g/dL vs 1.08 ± 0.39 g/dL, P < 0.01) levels were lower in the TG. On comparison of patients in the "N0" and "N1 or N2" groups, the N0 colon cancer group had a better operation time, length of hospital stay, oral ingestion period, Δ hemoglobin, and Δ albumin results than those of the N1 or N2 group. The operation methods affected the results, and laparoscopic anterior resection(LAR) showed similar results. However, for left and right hemicolectomy, both groups showed no difference in operation time or hospital *** Preoperative tattooing with ICG is useful for laparoscopic colectomy, especially in the N0 colon cancer group and LAR.

BACKGROUND Aberrant right subclavian artery(ARSA)is the most common congenital anomaly of the aortic *** patients having such anomalies receive transradial intervention(TRI),aortic dissection(AD)may ***,we discuss a case of iatrogenic type B AD occurring during right TRI in an ARSA patient,that was later salvaged by percutaneous *** SUMMARY A 73-year-old man presented to our hospital with intermittent chest *** computed tomography(CT)angiography revealed significant stenosis in the left anterior descending *** coronary angiography was performed via the right radial artery without ***,we were unable to advance the guiding catheter past the ostium of the right subclavian artery to the aortic arch for percutaneous coronary intervention,while the guidewire tended to go down the descending *** patient suddenly complained of chest and back *** CT aortography revealed type B AD propagating to the left renal artery(RA)with preserved renal ***,after 2 d,the patient suddenly complained of right lower limb pain where the femoral pulse was suddenly ***-up CT indicated further progression of dissection to the right external iliac artery(EIA)and left RA with limited *** performed percutaneous angioplasty of the right EIA and left RA without ***-up CT aortography at 8 mo showed optimal *** A caution is required during right TRI in ARSA to avoid *** angioplasty can be a treatment option.

Analyses on performances of heat and multilayer reflection insulators

This research was conducted to study the performances of the heat and multilayer reflection insulators used for buildings in South Korea to realize eco-friendly, low-energy-consumption, green construction, and to contribute to energy consumption reduction in buildings and to the nation＇s greenhouse gas emission reduction policy （targeting 30% reduction compared to BAUCousiness as usual） by 2020）. The heat insulation performance test is about the temperatures on surfaces of test piece. The high air temperature and the low air temperature were measured to determine the overall heat transfer coefficient and thermal conductivity. The conclusions are drawn that the heat transmission coefficients for each type of existing reflection insulator are： A-1 （0.045 W/（m-K））, A-2 （0.031 W/（m.K））, A-3 （0.042 W/（m.K））, A-4 （0.078 W/（m.K））, and the average heat conductivity is 0.049 W/（m-K）; The heat conductivity for each type of Styrofoam insulator are 0.030 W/（m.K） for B-l, 0.032 W/（m-K） for B-2, 0.037 W/（m＇K） for B-3, 0.037 W/（m.K） for B-4, and the average heat conductivity is 0.035 W/（m＇K） regardless of the thickness of the insulator; The heat conductivity values of the multilayer reflection insulators are converted based on the thickness and type C-1 （0.020 W/（m.K））, C-2 （0.018 W/（m.K））, C-3 （0.016 W/（m.K））, and C-4 （0.012 W/（m.K））; The multilayer reflection insulator keeps the indoor-side surface temperature high （during winter） or low （in summer）, enhances the comfort of the building occupants, and conducts heating and moisture resistance to prevent dew condensation on the glass-outer-wall surface.

Development of Preliminary Design Program for Combustor of Regenerative Cooled Liquid Rocket Engine

An integrated program was established to design a combustor for a liquid rocket engine and to analyze regenerative cooling results on a preliminary design *** of burnt gas from a kerosene-LOx mixture in the combustor and rocket performance were calculated from CEA which is the code for the calculation of chemical *** heat transfer of regenerative cooling was analyzed by using SUPERTRAPP code for coolant properties and by one-dimensional correlations of the heat transfer coefficient from the combustor liner to the *** of the combustors of F-1 and RS-27A engines were designed from similar input data and the present results were compared to actual data for ***,the combustors of 30 tonf class,75 tonf class and 150 tonf class were designed from the required thrust,combustion chamber,exit pressure and mixture ratio of *** wall temperature,heat flux and pressure drop were calculated for heat transfer analysis of regenerative cooling using the profiles.
