BACKGROUND Abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)repair often involves significant postoperative pain,traditionally managed with systemic opioids,which can cause undesirable side *** case report explores the novel use of a surgically-initiated rectus sheath block with a catheter-over-needle assembly for pain management in AAA *** SUMMARY A 67-year-old female with hypertension and previous aortic dissection underwent elective open repair of an infrarenal AAA,which had grown from 3.4 cm to 4.3 cm over 14 months.A rectus sheath block was initiated surgically for postoperative pain *** patient reported low pain scores and did not require systemic intravenous opioids,enabling early ambulation and discharge on postoperative day seven without *** preventing complications of systemic opi-oids,the method indicating a promising direction for postoperative pain management in major vascular *** Surgically-initiated rectus sheath block as a valuable tool for managing postoperative pain in AAA repair.

Model predictive control is widely used in the design of autonomous driving ***,its parameters are sensitive to dynamically varying driving conditions,making it difficult to be implemented into *** a result,this study presents a self-learning algorithm based on reinforcement learning to tune a model predictive ***,the proposed algorithm is used to extract features of dynamic traffic scenes and adjust the weight coefficients of the model predictive *** this method,a risk threshold model is proposed to classify the risk level of the scenes based on the scene features,and aid in the design of the reinforcement learning reward function and ultimately improve the adaptability of the model predictive controller to real-world *** proposed algorithm is compared to a pure model predictive controller in car-following *** to the results,the proposed method enables autonomous vehicles to adjust the priority of performance indices reasonably in different scenarios according to risk variations,showing a good scenario adaptability with safety guaranteed.

We report a facile strategy for incorporating persistent and effective antibacterial property into a widely used polymer, poly（methyl methacrylate）（PMMA）, by copolymerizing methyl methacrylate（MMA） with 2-（tert-butylamino）ethyl methacrylate（TA） in one pot via atom transfer radical polymerization（ATRP）. The subsequent self-assembly of the resultant poly（methyl methacrylate）-block-poly[（2-tert-butylamino）ethyl methacrylate]（PMMA20-b-PTA15） diblock copolymer affords well-defined water-dispersible vesicles, which can be facilely sprayed on the walls in hospitals for effective inhibition and killing of bacteria. 1H-NMR and gel permeation chromatography（GPC） studies confirmed the successful synthesis of welldefined copolymer. Transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, atomic force microscopy（AFM） and dynamic light scattering（DLS） studies proved the formation of vesicles with narrow size distribution. DLS studies revealed the excellent stability of vesicles at various temperatures. Antibacterial tests showed effective antibacterial activities of polymer vesicles against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Moreover, this strategy may be extended for preparing a wide range of polymeric materials for facile antibacterial applications in many fields.

Various scaling relations have long been established in the field of heterogeneous catalysis,but the resultant volcano curves inherently limit the catalytic performance of catalyst *** the other hand,it is still very challenging to develop universal descriptors that can be used in various types of catalysts and reaction *** these reasons,several strategies have recently been proposed to break and rebuild scaling relations to go beyond the top of *** this review,some previously proposed descriptors have been briefly ***,the strategies for breaking known and establishing new and more generalized scaling relations in complex catalytic systems have been ***,the application of machine-learning techniques in identifying universal descriptors for future computational design and high-throughput screening of heterogeneous catalysts has been discussed.

Distributed-drive electric vehicles(EVs)replace internal combustion engine with multiple motors,and the novel configura-tion results in new dynamic-related *** paper studies the coupling effects between the parameters and responses of dynamic vibration-absorbing structures(DVAS)for EVs driven by in-wheel motors(IWM).Firstly,a DVAS-based quarter suspension model is developed for distributed-drive EVs,from which nine parameters and five responses are selected for the coupling effect analysis.A two-stage global sensitivity analysis is then utilized to investigate the effect of each parameter on the *** control of the system is then converted into a multiobjective optimization problem with the defined system parameters being the optimization variables,and three dynamic limitations regarding both motor and suspension subsystems are taken as the constraints.A particle swarm optimization approach is then used to either improve ride comfort or mitigate IWM vibration,and two optimized parameter sets for these two objects are provided at *** results provide in-depth conclusions for the coupling effects between parameters and responses,as well as a guideline on how to design system parameters for contradictory *** can be concluded that either passenger comfort or motor lifespan can be reduced up to 36%and 15%by properly changing the IWM suspension system parameters.

Recurrent events data with a terminal event （e.g. death） often arise in clinical and observational studies. Most of existing models assume multiplicative covariate effects and model the conditional recurrent event rate given survival. In this article, we propose a general mSditive-multiplicative rates model for recurrent event data in the presence of a terminal event, where the terminal event stop the further occurrence of recurrent events. Based on the estimating equation approach and the inverse probability weighting technique, we propose two procedures for estimating the regression parameters and the baseline mean function. The asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established. In addition, some graphical and numerical procedures are presented for model checking. The finite-sample behavior of the proposed methods is examined through simulation studies, and an application to a bladder cancer study is also illustrated.

Generally, a magnetic target can be described with six parameters, three describing the position and three describing the magnetic moment. Due to a lack of sufficient components from one magnetometer, we need more than one magnetometer when locating the magnetic target. Thus, a magnetometer array should be designed. The baseline of the array is an important factor that affects the localization accuracy of the target. In this paper, we focus on the localization of a static target by using a scalar magnetometer array. We present the scalar magnetometer array with a cross-shaped *** propose a method of determining the optimal baseline according to the parameters of the magnetometer and detection requirements. In the method, we use the traditional signal-to-noise ratio（SNR） as a performance index, and obtain the optimal baseline of the array by using the Monte Carlo method. The proposed method of determining the optimal baseline is verified in simulation. The arrays with different baselines are used to locate a static magnetic target. The results show that the location performance is better when using the array with the optimal baseline determined by the proposed method.

Objective: To investigate whether Suxiao Jiuxin Pills(SJP), a Chinese herbal remedy, is an anti-ventricular fibrillation(VF) agent. Methods: VF was induced by isoproterenolol(ISO) intraperitoneal injection followed by electrical pacing in mice and rabbits. The effects of SJP on the L-type calcium channel current(CaV1.2), voltage-dependent sodium channel current(INa), rapid and slow delayed rectifier potassium channel current(IKr and IKs, respectively) were studied by whole-cell patch-clamp method. Computer simulation was implemented to incorporate the experimental data of SJP effects on the CaV1.2 current into the action potential(AP) and pseudo-electrocardiography(pseudo-ECG) models. Results: SJP prevented VF induction and reduced VF durations significantly in mice and rabbits. Patch-clamp experiments revealed that SJP decreased the peak amplitude of the CaV1.2 current with a half maximal concentration(IC50) value of 16.9 mg/L(SJP-30 mg/L, –32.8±6.1 pA;Verapamil, –16.2±1.8 pA;vs. control, –234.5±16.7 pA, P0.05). Computer simulation showed that SJP-reduced CaV1.2 current shortened the AP duration,transiting VF into sinus rhythm in pseudo-ECG. Conclusion: SJP reduced VF via inhibiting the CaV1.2 current with in vivo, in vitro, and in silico studies, which provide experimental basis for SJP anti-VF clinical application.

OBJECTIVE:To compare the anti-inflammatory effects of three decoctions for coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)[Qingfei Paidu Tang(清肺排毒汤),QF;Huashi Baidu Fang(化湿败毒方),HS;Xuanfei Baidu Fang(宣肺败毒方),XF]in parallelly experimental models by using severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)-related toll-like receptors(TLRs)ligands and its spike(S)protein as ***:RAW264.7 macrophages were used to investigate the effects of three decoctions on the inflammations induced by R848,poly(I:C),lipopolysaccharide(LPS),as well as SARS-CoV-2 S protein,in *** endotoxemia model was used for evaluating their anti-inflammatory actions in *** levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1),interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α),and interferon-β(IFN-β)were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent ***:Three decoctions could decrease supernatant IL-6,MCP-1,nitric oxide(NO)and TNF-αto varying degrees in activated ***,they did not increase the level of antiviral cytokine IFN-βinduced by TLR3 and TLR4 ligands,but rather suppressed it,suggesting that externally administrated type I interferons(IFN-Is)may be needed for the severe COVID-19 cases characterized by deficient *** mouse endotoxemia model,all three decoctions could suppress serum pro-inflammatory cytokines,but only QF could relieve hypothermia and antagonize ***:Collectively,our study compared,for the first time,the effects of three decoctions on SARSCoV-2-related TLRs-mediated *** vitro,three decoctions exert similar suppressive effects on inflammatory cytokines induced by SARS-CoV-2-related TLRs ligands,as well as S *** vivo,QF possesses the strongest effects compared with HS and *** findings may provide not only experimental basis for the clinical use of three decoctions,but also a rationale for the combination therapy with IFN-Is.
