Nutr.ent composition of pill millipede manur. of the Wester. Ghats, India

Nutr.ent composition of the manur. of four.pill millipedes （Ar.hr.sphaer. dalyi, ,4. davisoni, ,4. fumosa and,4, magna） inhabiting in semi-ever.r.en for.sts and plantations of the Wester. Ghats of Southwest India was evaluated. The quantity and quality of fecal pellets differ.d between millipedes and their.habitats （for.st and plantation）. Or.anic car.on content in manur. was lower.in plantations than in for.sts, while nitr.gen content was elevated in plantations. The car.on to nitr.gen （C/N） r.tio of manur. was lower.in plantations compar.d to for.sts. The phosphor.s content in manur. was elevated in plantations in all except for.A. dalyi. Calcium content of manur. was incr.ased in plantations than in for.sts. The contents of magnesium, potassium and phenolics in manur. showed var.ed r.sults. The mass of fecal pellets was cor.elated only with volume in for.sts （r.0.882; p 〈0.01） and pH in plantations （r.0.616; p 〈0.05）, while the volume of fecal pellets was cor.elated with nitr.gen content in for.sts （r.0.751; p 〈0.01） and cal- cium in plantations （=0.619; p 〈0.05）. The conductivity was positively cor.elated with phosphor.s and potassium, while magnesium was negatively cor.elated in for.sts as well as plantations. Potassium and magnesium wer. negatively cor.elated in for.sts （r.0.920; p〈0.001） and plantations （t=0.692; p 〈0.05）. Over.ll, the physicochemical char.cter.stics and nutr.ent composition of fecal pelets differ.d between millipedes as well as habitats. The low car.on to nitr.gen r.tio and the incr.ased nitr.gen, phosphor.s and calcium content in the manur. of millipedes inhabiting in plantations indicates possibilities for.successfully employing them for.in situ composting of for.st or.plantation r.sidues.

This ar.icle analyzes the tr.nsmission line char.cter.stics of plasmonic hybr.d metal insulator.metal(HMIM) wave-guide, cir.ular.r.ng r.sonator.Cr.) based dual-band band-pass filter. with two tr.nsmission poles in both pass-bands in the optical r.gime using coupled line feed. The tr.nsmission line char.cter.stics of an HMIM waveguide, such as char.cter.stic impedance(Z_(PV)), effective r.fr.ctive index(n_(eff)) and pr.pagation length(L_(spp)), have been obtained by using full wave simulation.

Endophytic fungi of wild legume Sesbania bispinosa in coastal sand dunes and mangr.ves of the Southwest coast of India

Evaluation of 450 sur.ace ster.lized tissue segments of a seasonal wild legume, Sesbania bispinosa （Jacq.）, of coastal sand dunes and mangr.ves of southwest India yielded 546 isolates compr.sing 39 endophytic fungi with six dominant taxa （Asper.illus flavus, Asper.illus niger. Cladospor.um tenuissimum, Fusar.um monilifor.e, Penicillium chr.sogenum and mor.ho sp. 1）. A consor.ium of sapr.phytic, pathogenic and toxigenic fungi exists as endophytes in S. bispinosa. Number.of segments colonized, number.of isolates obtained, species r.chness and diver.ity wer. higher.in S. bispinosa in mangr.ves compar.d to coastal sand dunes. Seeds yielded mor. fungal isolates, but species r.chness and diver.ity wer. low. In spite of low fungal colonization in r.ot segments, the diver.ity was high. Up to 30-40 % endophytic fungi of S. bispinosa differ.d between coastal sand dunes and mangr.ves r.vealing par.ial host- and habitat-specificity. As S. bispi- nosa is extensively used as gr.en manur. and for.ge in southwest India, fur.her.studies especially on the bioactive compounds of its endophytic fungi might br.aden its r.nge of uses. In addition to conventional mor.hologicaltechniques, molecular.tools would pr.vide pr.cise insight on the endophytic fungi of coastal sand dunes and mangr.ves.

This study char.cter.zed the feed, the decomposing leaf litter.of coconut （Cocos nucifer.）, and faeces of two endemic giant pill-millipedes Ar.hr.sphaer. disticta and A. fumosa collected fr.m for.sts of the Wester. Ghats of India based on chemical featur.s and micr.bial pr.file. In both millipedes, electr.c conductivity and total phosphor.s wer. significantly incr.ased in faeces, while the cr.de pr.tein, or.anic car.on, total nitr.gen and total phenolics wer. significantly decr.ased, as compar.d to those in feed. Heter.tr.phic bacter.a, actinomycetes, r.izobia and phosphate-solubilizing bacter.a wer. significantly higher.in faeces than in feed, while filamentous fungi and yeast substantially decr.ased in faces compar.d to feed in both the millipedes. Spectr.m of fatty acid methyl ester. was consider.bly differ.nt between feed and faeces of both the millipedes. The total satur.ted fatty acids wer. higher.than the total unsatur.ted fatty acids in feed as well as faeces, while the r.tio of unsatur.ted/satur.ted fatty acids decr.ased fr.m feed to faeces. Dodecanoic and tetr.decanoic acids in A. disticta and octadecanoic acid in A. fumosa significantly incr.ased, while （9Z）-octadec-9-enoic and （9E,12E）-octadeca-9,12-dienoic acids in A.. disticta and hexadecanoic, tetr.cosanoic and （9E,12E）- octadeca-9,12-dienoic acids in A. fumosa significantly decr.ased in faeces compar.d to feed, indicating millipede-dependent changes in fatty acids. Non-mycor.hizal fungal endophytes in two or.hids of Kaiga for.st(Wester. Ghats), India

We used standar. isolation pr.tocols to explor. the endophytic fungal communities in thr.e tissue types of two dominant or.hids （Bulbophyllum neilgher.ense and Vanda testacea） of the Kaiga for.st of the Wester. Ghats. We sur.ace ster.lized and assessed 90 segments of each or.hid for.the occur.ence and diver.ity of endophytic fungal taxa. The 118 fungal isolates wer. obtained fr.m r.ot, bulb and leaves of B. neilgher.ense, consisting of 17 anamor.hic taxa （r.nge, 10-15 taxa） with 1.3 fungal taxa per.segment （r.nge, 1.2-1.4 taxa）. Four.taxa （Asper.illus flavus, A. niger. Penicillium sp. and mor.ho sp. 1） belonged to the cor. gr.up （11.1%--32.2%）. The r.lative abundance of A. flavus and mor.ho sp. 1 was mor. than 10%. A total of 130 fungal isolates fr.m r.ots, stems and leaves of V. testacea yielded 20 anamor.hic taxa （r.nge, 11-15 taxa） with 1.4 fungal taxa per.segment （r.nge, 1.4-1.5 taxa）. Asper.illusflavus, A. niger. A. ochr.ceus, Gliocladium vir.de, Penicillium sp. and mor.ho sp. 1 belonged to the cor. gr.up. r.lative abundance exceeded 10% for.A. flavus, A. niger. and mor.ho sp. 1. The Simpson and Shannon diver.ity indices wer. higher.in leaf than r.ot or.bulb/stem of both or.hids. Jaccar.＇s similar.ty coefficient was higher.between r.ot and leaf in both or.hids （56.3%-60%） than between other.pair.. Our.study r.vealed that the endophytic fungal assemblage and diver.ity or.. neilgher.ense and E testacea of Kaiga for.st of the Wester. Ghats wer. r.latively similar.between or.hids and their.tissues.
