A Study.of the Number and Metastatic Status of Ly.ph Nodes Ressected During Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Surgery

OBJECTIVE To analy.e the number and the metastatic status of ly.ph nodes resected during NSCLC surgery. and to determine the relationship of the ly.ph node status to the prognosis. METHODS Clinical data from 1,575 inpatient NSCLC cases were retrospectively.reviewed, and the number and the different metastatic status of the LNs resected analy.ed. The Kaplan-Meier method was used for survival analy.is. RESULTS Stage NO patients with 7 to 12 LNs resected during surgery.had a significant increase in survival （P=0.001, 0.021）,compared to patients with less than 6 LNs or more than 12 LNs. Stage N1 or N2 patients with more than 12 LNs resected had a significant increase in survival（P=0.000 ,0.003）,compared with cases who had less than 6 LNs or 7 to 12 LNs *** 5-y.ar survival rate of Stage NO patients was superior to Stage N1 and N2 patients （P =0.000,0.000）,and the 5-y.ar survival rates of Stage N0 and skip N2 patients were superior to the continue N2 patients. Patients with a single station of LNs metastasis had a significant increase in survival （P=0.000）,compared with those with multiple stations of LNs metastasis. Patients with 1 to 2 metastatic LNs had a significant increase in survival （P=0.000）,compared with patients having more than 2 metastatic *** metastatic LN ratio（percentage of metastatic ly.ph nodes resected） was divided into four subgroups：〈25%, 25%～50%, 51%～75%, 〉 75%.The 5-y.ar survival rate gradually.decreased with an increase in the metastatic ratio. CONCLUSION For patients with NSCLC the number of LNs resected during surgery.should be 7 to 12; the range and number of LN metastasis and the metastatic LN ratio significantly.affect the prognosis of patients with NSCLC.

Apatite and Chitin Amendments Promote Microbial Activity.and Augment Metal Removal in Marine Sediments

In situ amendments are a promising approach to enhance removal of metal contaminants from diverse environments including soil, groundwater and sediments. Apatite and chitin were selected and tested for copper, chromium, and zinc metal removal in marine sediment samples. Microbiological, molecular biological and chemical analy.es were applied to investigate the role of these amendments in metal immobilization processes. Both apatite and chitin promoted microbial growth. These amendments induced corresponding bacterial groups including sulfide producers, iron reducers, and phosphate solubilizers;all that facilitated heavy.metal immobilization and removal from marine sediments. Molecular biological approaches showed chitin greatly.induced microbial population shifts in sediments and overly.ng water: chitin only. or chitin with apatite induced growth of bacterial groups such as Acidobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, Epsilonproteobacteria, Firmicutes, Planctomy.etes, Rhodospirillaceae, Spirochaetes, and Verrucomicrobia;whereas these bacteria were not present in the control. Community.structures were also altered under treatments with increase of relative abundance of Deltaproteobacteria and decrease of Actinobacteria, Alphaproteobacteria, and Nitrospirae. Many.?of these groups of bacteria have been shown to be involved in metal reduction and immobilization. Chemical analy.is ?of pore and overly.ng water also demonstrated metal immobilization primarily.under chitin treatments. X-Ray.absorption spectroscopy.(XAS) spectra showed more sorbed Zn occurred over time in both apatite and chitin treatments (from 9% - 27%). The amendments improved zinc immobilization in marine sediments that led to significant changes in ??the mineralogy. easily.mobile Zn hy.roxide phase was converted to an immobile Zn phosphate (hopeite). In-situ amendment of apatite and chitin offers a great bioremediation potential for marine sediments contaminated with heavy.metals.

A novel fiber optic sensor based on optical composite oxy.en-sensitive film was developed for determination of 2,4-dichlorophenol(DCP).The optical composite oxy.en-sensitive film consists of tris(2,2’-bipy.idy.)dichloro ruthenium(II)hexahy.rate(Ru(bpy.3Cl2)as the fluorescence indicator and iron(III)tetrasulfophthalocy.nine(Fe(III)PcTs)as bionic enzy.e.A lock-in amplifier was used for detecting the lifetime of the composite oxy.en-sensitive film by.measuring the phase delay.of the sensor *** different variables affecting the sensor performance were evaluated and *** the optimal conditions(i e,pH 6.0,25℃,Fe(III)PcTs concentration of 5.0×10^-5 mol/L),the linear detection range,detection limit and response time of the fiber optic sensor are 3.0×10^-7-9.0×10^-5 mol/L,4.8×10^-8 mol/L(S/N=3),and 220 s,*** sensor display. high selectivity.good repeatability.and stability.which have good potentials in analy.ing DCP concentration in practical water samples.

Spinal cord decompression reduces rat neural cell apoptosis secondary.to spinal cord injury

Objective： To determine whether spinal cord decompression play. a role in neural cell apoptosis after spinal cord injury. Study.design： We used an animal model of compressive spinal cord injury.with incomplete paraparesis to evaluate neural cell apoptosis after decompression. Apoptosis and cellular damage were assessed by.staining with terminal deoxy.ucleotidy. transferase （TdT）-mediated deoxy.ridine triphosphate nick-end labelling （TUNEL） and immunostaining for caspase-3, Bcl-2 and Bax. Methods： Experiments were conducted in male Sprague-Dawley.rats （n-78） weighing 300-400 g. The spinal cord was compressed posteriorly.at T10 level using a custom-made screw for 6 h, 24 h or continuously. followed by.decompression by.removal of the screw. The rats were sacrificed on Day.I or 3 or in Week 1 or 4 post-decompression. The spinal cord was removed en bloc and examined at lesion site, rostral site and caudal site （7.5 mm away.from the lesion）. Results： The numbers of TUNEL-positive cells were significantly.lower at the site of decompression on Day.1, and also at the rostral and caudal sites between Day.3 and Week 4 post-decompression, compared with the persistently.compressed group. The numbers of cells between Day.1 and Week 4 were immunoreactive to caspase-3 and B-cell ly.phoma-2 （Bcl-2）-associated X-protein （Bax）, but not to Bcl-2, correlated with those of TUNEL-positive cells. Conclusion： Our results suggest that decompression reduces neural cell apoptosis following spinal cord injury.

Objective:To investigate the clinical and epidemiological features and outcome of Chry.eobacterium and Elizabethkingia *** in children,together with antimicrobial ***:This retrospective study.was conducted at a tertiary.pediatric hospital in *** patients infected with Chry.eobacterium/Elizabethkingia *** those presenting to Ankara City.Hospital between March 2014 and March 2022 were ***:A total of 49 cases were included and 29 cases were identified as *** median age was 14(0.2-185.0)*** majority.89.8%)of these patients had an underly.ng disease,including malignancy.42.9%).Bacteremia(46.9%)and central line-associated bloodstream infection(28.6%)were the most common *** thirty.day.all-cause mortality.rate was 12.2%.The most commonly.used antibiotics were ciprofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole(TMP-SMX).Forty.five(91.8%)isolates were susceptible to ciprofloxacin,44(91.6%)to TMP-SMX,and 21(87.5%)to ***:Chry.eobacterium and Elizabethkingia *** emergent,nosocomial pathogens and the majority.of cases were older than the neonatal *** were mainly.seen in patients with long hospital stay.,indwelling devices,and those who have received antibiotics within the last month,especially.*** addition,they.were associated with bloodstream infection and *** most commonly.useful antibiotics according to the resistance patterns were ciprofloxacin and TMP-SMX.

In this study.a photocataly.ic oxidation sy.tem was used for the disinfection of water used in a real estate in Hong Kong,two ty.es of domestic water namely.fountain water and flushing water were used in study.to test the disinfection effectiveness done by.photocataly.ic oxidation *** was used in the photocataly.ic oxidation sy.tem for disinfection which is using RuO electroly.ic and TiO photocataly.ic *** study.was used to evaluate the formation and the disinfection efficiency.of the free chlorine generated by.the photocataly.ic oxidation sy.tem under different electric voltages of 10,20 and 30 *** results revealed that under electric voltage of 25 to 30 V,the best disinfection effect could be achieved.

BACKGROUND： Liver cirrhotic patients with hepatic encephalopathy.have poor prognosis. Probiotics alter the intestinal microbiota and reduce the production of ammonia. We conducted a meta-analy.is about the role of probiotics on liver cirrhotic patients with hepatic *** SOURCES： We collected the relevant literatures up to February.21, 2014 from databases of PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. A statistical analy.is was conducted by.RevMan 5.2 and STATA 12.0 ***： Six randomized controlled trials involving 496 liver cirrhotic patients were included. The results showed that probiotic therapy.significantly.reduced the development of overt hepatic encephalopathy.OR [95% CI]： 0.42 [0.26, 0.70],P=0.0007）. However, probiotics did not affect mortality. levels of serum ammonia and constipation（mortality. OR [95% CI]：0.73 [0.38, 1.41], P=0.35; serum ammonia： WMD [95% CI]：-3.67 [-15.71, 8.37], P=0.55; constipation： OR [95% CI]： 0.67 [0.29,1.56], P=0.35）.CONCLUSION： Probiotics decrease overt hepatic encephalopathy.in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Objective:To investigate the impact of different magnetic field strengths and orientations on the dose deposition from lateral opposing photon beams irradiating a lary.geal geometry.with particular attention focused on the dose homogeneity.of the area around the air cavity.inside the ***:Geant4 simulation toolkit was used to perform Monte Carlo simulations on a phantom resembling the *** energy.spectrum of a 6 MV photon beam from a Varian Clinac iX machine was used to provide the source of *** configurations of the Magnetic Resonance Image-Guided Radiation Therapy.MRIgRT)sy.tem were simulated:the Fixed Cy.indrical(FC)geometry.the Longitudinal Rotating Biplanar(LRBP)geometry.and the Transverse Rotating Biplanar(TRBP)*** magnetic fields of different field strengths were *** relative dose maps and the homogeneity.index(HI)were obtained for ***:The LRBP geometry.together with a magnetic field strength of 0.5 T produced the most homogeneous dose distribution with a HI of 0.139 for the region of interest around the air cavity.compared with a HI of 0.180 when the magnetic field was *** TRBP geometry.the dose distribution shifted towards the cranial direction,leading to a region of hot spots at the superior edge and a region of cold spots at the inferior edge of the irradiated *** HI around the air cavity.was therefore *** addition,strong electron streaming effect(ESE)was *** the FC geometry.hot and cold spots were formed around the air cavity.which increased the ***:Out of the three configurations of the MRIgRT sy.tems,the LRBP geometry.produced the most clinically.beneficial dose distribution in which it provided a higher dose to the treatment area and a boost in dose to the tissue immediately.adjacent to the air cavity.

Morphological characterization of fungi associated with the ascochy.a blight complex and pathogenic variability.of My.osphaerella pinodes on field pea crops in central Alberta

Field pea crops in central Alberta were survey.d for ascochy.a blight from 2011 to 2012 and fungal isolates were recovered from foliar lesions on selected plants. Cultural and microscopic characterization of the 275 isolates obtained revealed that 272 were of My.osphaerella pinodes and three were of Phoma medicaginis var. pinodella. Ascochy.a pisi or Phoma koolunga were not identified. Isolates of M. pinodes were divided into two groups,GI and GII, based on visual assessment of culture characteristics. GI isolates(light to dark, mostly.gray.colony.color; py.nidial distribution radial and concentric; conidia10.5–14.5 × 4.2–6.2 μm most with one septum, occasionally.two, constricted at the septum;spore mass light buff to flesh color) were predominant(83%), while GII isolates(dark to gray.colony.color; py.nidia abundant; conidia 8–16 × 3.5–6.2 μm most with 1 septum, constricted at the septum; spore mass light buff to flesh color) were less common(17%). The cultures of GII isolates were similar to recent descriptions of A. pisi, but they.differed in spore color. In a host differential study. 13 pathoty.es of M. pinodes were identified from 110 single-spore isolates. Pathoty.e I was predominant(88 isolates) and virulent on all nine differential genoty.es. The other pathoty.es(pathoty.es II–XIII) were rare(1–6 isolates of each).Comparison of the present results with earlier studies suggests that pathoty.e I has been prevalent for many.y.ars, and that its aggressiveness on the host differentials has increased over time. Emphasis should be placed on breeding for resistance to M. pinodes in field pea cultivars intended for deploy.ent in central Alberta.
