Comoros Islands suffering from energy stress due to rolling power cuts in the country mainly due to problems with failures heat engines fuelled with diesel. These blackouts induce shortages of energy while demand for energy does not cease to grow with the population. An alternative way for the Comoros Islands to get out of this energy crisis is to exploit the existing energy renewable sources, in particular to invest in the hybrid energy, a promising technology in terms of economic efficiency. The north of Ngazidja Island, in the region of Mitsamiouli, is considered among the economic lungs of this Island. It is spread in the field of tourism but also an area developed in agriculture and fishing. The Village of Koua Mitsamiouli located in rural area of this region is well known for its efficient yield in agricultural production, although the latter suffers from an energy stress in its last years. This lack of energy and water permanently to farmers has caused its production capacity to fall. In order to increase its agricultural profitability, and to satisfy the needs of the population for their activities such as trade, health, education, banking transactions, product preserving in retail stores, the energy autonomy of this village is more than necessary. It is important to notice that, the use of renewable energies in Comoros is very limited by photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. Hybrid technology and other renewable energy sources are not yet developed in Comoros Island. The main objective of this work is to propose the best possible sizing of a hybrid system for the production of electricity from renewable and non-renewable energy resources in order to satisfy the electrical needs in a reliable manner of the remote of village, Koua Mitsamiouli, for energetic autonomy. Objective:To investigate the antioxidant,antibacterial,and chemical ingredients of Ardisia elliptica(***) methanolic ***:The plant was extracted using *** and antioxidant activities were ***:The results showed that both fruit and leaf extract of *** have significant antibacterial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative *** extracts showed higher content of phenolic(71 ± 0.03 GAE/mg extract dry weight),in comparison to the leaf extracts(37 ± 0.05 GAE/mg extract dry weight).Flavonoid content,and Fe2+chelating activity of fruit extracts were higher than leaf *** percentage radical inhibition of fruit extract is found to be higher(70%) than that of leaf extract(60%).LCMS results indicated that the major compounds in the fruit extract were Gingerol,Aspidin,Kampherol,and Stercuresin,while the leaf extract contained Gingerol,Aspidin,Triangularin,and Salicyl acyl ***,the results of GCMS indicated that fruit extract contained these major compounds:Vitamin E Tocopherol,5-hepylresornicol,2-Nonylmalonic acid,5-pentadecylresornicol,and ***,leaf extract of *** contained these major compounds:Alpha Amyrenol,4,4,6,6a,6b,8,8a,9,10,11,12,12 a,14,14 a,14 b octadehydro-2H-picen-3-one,and Lonasterol,4-t-Butyl-2-[4-nitrophenyl] ***:The results provide evidence that fruit and leaf of *** extracts might indeed be used as a potential source of effective natural antimicrobial and antioxidant agents in pharmaceutical and food industries.

Prevalence of filarial parasites in domestic and stray cats in Selangor State, Malaysia

Objective: To determine the prevalence of the filarial parasites, ie., Brugia malayi, Brugia pahangi(B. pahangi), Dirofilaria immitis and Dirofilaria repens(D. repens)in domestic and stray cats. Methods: A total of 170 blood sample were collected from domestic and stray cats and examined for i larial worm parasites in two localities, Pulau Carey and Bukit Gasing, Selangor State, Malaysia. Results: The overall prevalence of infection was 23.5%(40/170; 95% CI=17.4–30.6). Of this, 35%(14/40; 95% CI=22.1–50.5) and 50%(20/40; 95% CI=35.2–64.8) were positive for single B. pahangi and D. repens, respectively. The remaining of 15%(6/40; 95% CI=7.1–29.1) were positive for mixed B. pahangi and D. repens. In addition, 75% of the infected cats were domestic, and 25% were strays. No Brugia malayi and Dirofilaria immitis was detected. Eighty-four cats were captured at Pulau Carey, of which 35.7%(30/84) were infected. Among the cats determined to be infected, 93%(28/30; 95% CI=78.7–98.2) were domestic, and only 6.7%(2/30; 95% CI=19.0–21.3) were strays. Conversely, the number of infected cats was three times lower in Bukit Gasing than in Pulau Carey, and most of the cats were stray. Conclusions: B. pahangi and D. repens could be the major parasites underlying i lariasis in the study area. Adequate prophylactic plans should be administrated in the cat population in study area.

The Comoros is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean located in the Mozambique Channel between the African continent and Madagascar. Geographically Comoros is composed of four islands: Grande Comores, Anjouan, Mohéli and Mayotte (under French administration). Apart from Mayotte, the others three independent islands commonly known as the Union of the Comoros are suffering from energy stress since their independence year 1975 until nowadays. The energy supplied and distributed by the national electricity company, SONELEC produced by diesel engines, is not stable with so much load shedding all the time. This instability energy leads to a lack of a phone network in some telecommunications towers connected to grid. The majority of telecommunications towers are located in rural areas not connected to grid and running on diesel generators, which once again leads to a problem with the telecommunications network when diesel engines fail. The two competing companies which operate in the field of telecommunications in the Comoros, namely Comores Télécom, a national public company and Telma, the private one, are still unable to ensure the provision of the telecommunications network on a regular basis. This is why we propose in the present work, a sizing of hybrid system composed essentially of a diesel generator, a wind turbine and a photovoltaic solar system with storage in batteries for supplying telecommunications towers in order to permanently ensure the provision of the telecommunications network for the well-being of the population. Our future energy must be based on non-polluting energies with significant resources. This study aims to provide electricity to a remote village in the Union of Comoros that has been affected by energy problems for over 40 years. The study uses a 50 kW diesel generator, a 10 kW wind turbine, 1500 kW photovoltaic solar panels, a converter, and storage batteries as the proposed sources. The main objective of this study is to conduct a detailed analysis and optimization of a hybrid diesel and renewable energy system to meet the electricity demand of a remote area village of 800 to 1500 inhabitants located in the north of Ngazidja Island in Comoros. The study uses the Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable (HOMER) Pro to conduct simulations and optimize the analysis using meteorological data from Comoros. The results show that hybrid combination is more profitable in terms of margin on economic cost with a less expensive investment. With a diesel cost of $1/L, an average wind speed of 5.09 m/s and a solar irradiation value of 6.14 kWh/m2/day, the system works well with a proportion of renewable energy production of 99.44% with an emission quantity of 1311.407 kg/year. 99.2% of the production comes from renewable sources with an estimated energy surplus of 2,125,344 kWh/year with the cost of electricity (COE) estimated at $0.18/kWh, presenting a cost-effective alternative compared to current market rates. These results present better optimization of the used hybrid energy system, satisfying energy demand and reducing the environmental impact.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common tumor of the salivary glands, accounting for approximately 50% of salivary gland lesions. It develops mainly in the salivary glands: parotid (80%), submaxillary (10%), sublingual (1%) and in the accessory oral-pharyngeal glands (9%). The aim of this work was to report 2 cases of pleomorphic adenoma of atypical location and then to discuss the difficulties linked to its diagnostic and therapeutic management in the Malian context. They were a 40-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman. They were admitted to the ENT department of the “Luxembourg Mere-infant” hospital for oropharyngeal swelling for the first and swelling of the palate for the second. The clinical expression was a swelling in both cases, of a hard, mobile consistency with healthy mucosa on their surface. The remainder of the physical examination was unremarkable. The diagnosis of a tumor of the oropharynx and palate was made following clinical radiological examinations. The histopathological examination of the surgical specimen made it possible to make the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma of the palate and the left palatine tonsil. The follow-up surgery was straightforward, with a favorable outcome. Pleomorphic adenomas are relatively rare benign tumors of the accessory salivary glands;their clinical expression remains swelling. Therapeutic management is surgery and the diagnosis is confirmed by histopathological examination.

Cerebral venous thrombosis has an unfavorable prognosis. It is a rather rare pathology concerning 3 to 5 cases per million inhabitants. The clinical symptomatology also varies according to the topography of the venous thrombosis and, in some cases, the CVT can have an unusual presentation. Progress and accessibility of non-invasive imaging currently allow early diagnosis of CVT. Brain MRI is the reference method for the diagnosis of CVT. We report a case of transverse sinus thrombosis in a 32-year-old male patient who consulted for headaches through which we want to study the etiological, clinical, paraclinical, therapeutic aspects as well as the evolutionary profile. The clinical history dates back to 2 weeks ago with frontal headaches radiating to the occipital region, throbbing of severe intensity, progressive onset and permanent evolution associated with right unilateral anterior purulent rhinorrhea. He had no nasal obstruction, epistaxis, hearing loss or other otological symptoms;no neurological deficit or notion of head trauma. Cerebral and maxillofacial computed tomography showed right maxillary sinusitis and right transverse sinus thrombosis. We carried out medical treatment based on antibiotics and analgesics without the use of anticoagulants. The evolution was favorable after four weeks of treatment. Conclusion: Transverse sinus thrombosis has a non-specific and heterogeneous clinical presentation. Headaches are the first sign. MRI and CT can help establish the diagnosis. The treatment is both etiological and symptomatic.
