Water is a vital resource.It supports a multitude of industries,civilizations,and agriculture.However,climatic conditions impact water availability,particularly in desert areas where the temperature is high,and rain is scarce.Therefore,it is crucial to forecast water demand to provide it to sectors either on regular or emergency days.The study aims to develop an accurate model to forecast daily water demand under the impact of climatic conditions.This forecasting is known as a multivariate time series because it uses both the historical data of water demand and climatic conditions to forecast the future.Focusing on the collected data of Jeddah city,Saudi Arabia in the period between 2004 and 2018,we develop a hybrid approach that uses Artificial Neural Networks(ANN)for forecasting and Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm(PSO)for tuning ANNs’hyperparameters.Based on the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)metric,results show that the(PSO-ANN)is an accurate model for multivariate time series forecasting.also,the first day is the most difficult day for prediction(highest error rate),while the second day is the easiest to predict(lowest error rate).Finally,correlation analysis shows that the dew point is the most climatic factor affecting water demand.

Cancer therapy agents have been used extensively as cytotoxic drugs against tissue or organ of a specific type of cancer. With the better understanding of molecular mcchanislns undcrlying carcinogenesis and cellular events during cancer progression and metastasis, it is now possible to use targeted therapy for these molecular events. Targeted therapy is able to identify cancer patients with dissimilar genetic defects at cellular level for the same cancer type and consequently requires individualized approach for treatment. Cancer therapy begins to shill steadily from the tra- ditional approach of ＂one regimen for all patients＂ to a more individualized approach, through which each patient will be treated specifically according to their specific genetic defects. Personalized medicine accordingly requires identification of indicators or markers that guide in the decision mak- ing of such therapy to the chosen patients for more effective therapy. Cancer biomarkcrs are fre- quently used in clinical practice for diagnosis and prognosis, as well as identification ol responsive patients and prediction of treatment response of cancer patient. The rapid breakthrough and development of microarray and sequencing technologies is probably the main tool for paving the way toward ＂individualized biomarker-driven cancer therapy＂ or ＂personalized medicine＂. In this review, we aim to provide an updated knowledge and overview of the currcnt landscape of cancer biomarkers and their role in personalized medicine, emphasizing the impact of gcnomics Oil the implementation of new potential targeted therapies and development of novel cancer biomarkers in improving the outcome of cancer therapy.

Attract and kill (AK) technology was evaluated against the Mediterranean fruit fly (Med-fly), Ceratitis capitata W.. Treatment was carried out in two peach orchards of four hectares each; first one located in Borj-Touil and the second in El-Kssibi Mornag, Northern Tunisia during the 2012 field season. AK is a specialized system based on hydrolyzed proteins and alpha-cypermethrin. During this study, 400 AK bait stations were placed in every hectare, four weeks before fruits color changes. The tested AK system was found effective in reducing the number of C. capitata population to 70% comparing to the untreated orchards. Fruit damages assessment showed significant differences between treatments in respect of decreasing infestation onto fruits. Study results indicated that AK baited treatments were able to reduce dropped and soften fruits infestation seven times than that of control plots. Fruit damages were restricted to 4%-5% in treated areas with AK system in compare to 31%-35% recorded in control plots. This novel AK system showed good performance to combat Med-fly and can successfully used to combat various fruit fly species when applied for an area wide application program.

The Surface Reactivity of Pure and Monohydrogenated Nanocones Formed from Graphene Sheets

A systematic computational study of surface reactivity for pure and mono-hydrogenated carbon nanocoes (CNCs) formed from graphene sheets as functions of disclination angle, cone size and hydrogenation sites has been investigated through density functional (DFT) calculations and at the B3LYP/3-21G level of theory. Five disclination angles (60°, 120°, 180°, 240° and 300°) are applied and at any disclination angle four structures with different sizes are studied. For comparison, pure and mono-hydrogenated boron nitride nanocones (BNNCs) with disclination angles 60°, 120°, 180°, 240° and 300° are also investigated. The hydrogenation is done on three different sites, HS1 (above the first neighbor atom of the apex atoms), HS2 (above one atom of the apex atoms) and HS3 (above one atom far from the apex atoms). Our calculations show that the highest surface reactivity for pure CNCs and BNNCs at disclination angles 60°, 180° and 300° is 23.50 Debye for B41N49H10 cone and at disclination angles 120° and 240° is 15.30 Debye for C94H14 cone. For mono-hydrogenated CNCs, the highest surface reactivity is 22.17 Debye for C90H10-HS3 cone at angle 300° and for mono-hydrogenated BNNCs the highest surface reactivity is 28.97 Debye for B41N49H10-HS1 cone when the hydrogen atom is adsorbed on boron atom at cone angle 240°.

Background: Metformin (M) is an effective first-line hypoglycemic agent in obese type 2 diabetes mellitus due to its low cost and safety profile. The Case: A 66-year-man presented with shock due to lactic acidosis induced by M-supersaturation subsequent to acute renal failure following infective diarrhea. The drug has been used, by this patient, for >10 years without complication. Physical examination, laboratory tests, radiological investigations and blood cultures did not show evidence of new cardiac, hepatic and septic insult. Despite discontinuation of M and 2-days of aggressive hydration, bicarbonate infusions and pressors;toxic levels of the drug persisted and shock-state culminated in severe and oliguric renal failure with serum urea and creatinine up to 50 mmol/L and 1270 umol/L, respectively. Hence, continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) was used, for 16-hours, to remove the drug, correct his acidosis and support his severe renal complications. Hours after the procedure;drug level, lactic acidosis and its associated shock improved followed by gradual renal recovery. The patient was discharged after 6 days and serum creatinine reached his base line (180 umol/L) 2 weeks later. The drug was not recommended for his future use. Conclusion: M-induced lactic acidosis, should be considered in assessment of shock in M-treated patients and management of unstable patients indicates early-use of CVVHDF.

Calcineurin inhibitors (CNI) are potent immunosuppressive agents in prophylaxis against graft rejection and autoimmune diseases including primary glomerulopathies. Previous research showed reversible;acute afferent arteriolar vasculopathy and irreversible chronic interstitial fibrosis associated with CNI nephrotoxicity. In this case report we describe a patient, with minimal change disease, that had developed chronic and progressive renal disease while receiving therapeutic dose of Tacrolimus. His serum creatinine had reached 537 umol/L and his nephrotic state worsened. Kidney biopsy showed chronic interstitial nephritis. Tacrolimus was discontinued and he was treated with 1 mg/kg prednisone in addition to Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) 1 g twice daily. By the 2nd month;serum creatinine returned to normal and by the 3rd month serum albumin too. After 1 month of therapy;the dose of Prednisone was tapered down gradually till 5 mg daily by the end of 3rd month. Moreover, the dose of MMF was reduced to 500 mg X2 by the end of 3rd month. After 2 years of follow up;he remained stable and without relapse of NS or renal failure. In conclusion, reversible renal disease, due to chronic interstitial nephritis can be induced by CNI which is amenable to treatment with Prednisone and MMF.

Rituximab Therapy for Persistent, Severe and Extensive Idiopathic Bullous Pemphigoid

Background: Idiopathic Bullous Pemphigoid (IBP) is a rare blistering autoimmune disease. Its morbidity and mortality have remained high owing to complications of extensive skin involvement as well as its conventional steroid therapy. We reviewed the medical literature and found indicators of an autoimmune etiology for its pathogenesis triggering genetically predisposed patients. Objective: to evaluate, prospectively, the role of Rituximab (R) therapy in its persistent, severe and extensive form. Patients and methods: A total of 12 patients, with disease duration of 6 ± 1 months, were treated with yearly R infusions (1 g followed by 1 g 2 weeks later). Results: Significant clinical improvement was achieved as documented by decrease in total score of Bullous Pemphigoid Disease Area Index from 60 ± 3 to 6 ± 2 that persisted for 26 ± 11 months of follow up. Moreover, IBP autoantibodies (anti-BP 180 and anti-320 IgG) levels fell from to 91 ± 3 and 81 ± 2 to 8 ± 2 and 9 ± 2, respectively. Conclusions: R is a safe and effective treatment for severe IBP and such response further confirms its autoimmune pathogenesis.
