Soil is of particular interest to the forensic community because it can be used as valuable associative evidence to link a suspect to a victim or a crime *** chromatography is a powerful analytical tool for organic compound ***,high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)has proven to be an efficient method for forensic soil analysis,especially in discriminating soils from proximity ***,ultra-performance liquid chromatography(UPLC),which is much more sensitive than HPLC,has never been explored in this *** study proposed a UPLC method for profiling non-volatile organic compounds in three Malaysian soils(red,brown and yellowish-brown soils).The three soils were analysed separately to assess the effects of individual chromatographic parameters:(a)elution programme(isocratic *** gradient programmes);(b)flow rate(0.1 vs.0.2 mL/min);(c)extraction solvent(acetonitrile ***)and(d)detection wavelength(230 vs.254 nm).The injection volume and total run time were set to 5μL and 35 min,***,each soil sample gave 24 different *** showed that the most desirable chromatographic parameters were(a)isocratic elution;(b)flow rate at 0.2 mL/min and(c)acetonitrile extraction *** proposed UPLC system is expected to be a feasible method for profiling non-volatile organic compounds in soil,and is more chemical-efficient than a comparable HPLC system.

Callus and suspension cells culture of Kaempferia parviflora was successfully established. Meristematic shoots can be used for utilization of plant cell biosynthetic capabilities for obtaining useful products from valuable medicinal plant to meet out the pharmaceutical demand and also for studying the metabolism. The medium containing combination of 0.2 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 0.2 mg/L napthyleneacetic acid (NAA) promoted the highest callus induction at 20%. Transferring the initiated callus on the medium with 1 mg/L 2,4-D enhanced the proliferation rate up to maximum fresh weight of 6.71 gm. Growth curve of cultured cells revealed that the cells continued to grow until 50 days of culture and showed the highest peak (fresh weight) at 40 days in all different initial weight tested ( 0.2, 0.5 and 1.0 gram). Isolated embryogenic callus was found to produce the highest in weight when suspended in liquid medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-D at 110 rpm resulted 13.5 gram fresh weight and 1080 mg dry weight.

Effect of iridium loading on HZSM-5 for isomerization of n-heptane

The effect of iridium loading on the properties and catalytic isomerization of n-heptane over Ir-HZSM-5 is studied. Ir-HZSM-5 was prepared by impregnation method and subjected to isomerization process in the presence of flowing hydrogen gas. XRD and BET studies show that the presence of iridium stabilizes the crystalline structure of HZSM-5, leading to more ordered framework structure and larger surface area. TGA and FTIR results substantiate that iridium species interacts with OH group on the surface of HZSM-5. Pyridine FT-IR study verifies the interaction between iridium and surface OH group slightly increased the Bro¨nsted and Lewis acid sites without changing the lattice structure of HZSM-5. The presence of iridium and the increase of strong Lewis acid sites on HZSM-5 were found to bring an increase about 4.1%, 33.2% and 11.8% in conversion, selectivity and yield of n-heptane isomerization, respectively.

In sepsis, macrophage bacterial phagocytosis is impaired, but the mechanism is not well elucidated. Extracellular cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (eCIRP) is a damage-associated molecular pattern that causes inflammation. However, whether eCIRP regulates macrophage bacterial phagocytosis is unknown. Here, we reported that the bacterial loads in the blood and peritoneal fluid were decreased in CIRP^(−/−) mice and anti-eCIRP ab-treated mice after sepsis. Increased eCIRP levels were correlated with decreased bacterial clearance in septic mice. CIRP−/− mice showed a marked increase in survival after sepsis. Recombinant murine CIRP (rmCIRP) significantly decreased the phagocytosis of bacteria by macrophages in vivo and in vitro. rmCIRP decreased the protein expression of actin-binding proteins, ARP2, and p-cofilin in macrophages. rmCIRP significantly downregulated the protein expression of βPIX, a Rac1 activator. We further demonstrated that STAT3 and βPIX formed a complex following rmCIRP treatment, preventing βPIX from activating Rac1. We also found that eCIRP-induced STAT3 phosphorylation was required for eCIRP’s action in actin remodeling. Inhibition of STAT3 phosphorylation prevented the formation of the STAT3-βPIX complex, restoring ARP2 and p-cofilin expression and membrane protrusion in rmCIRP-treated macrophages. The STAT3 inhibitor stattic rescued the macrophage phagocytic dysfunction induced by rmCIRP. Thus, we identified a novel mechanism of macrophage phagocytic dysfunction caused by eCIRP, which provides a new therapeutic target to ameliorate sepsis.

Negative effect of Ni on PtHY in n-pentane isomerization evidenced by IR and ESR studies

Ni/PtHY with different Ni loadings was prepared by impregnating HY with hexachloroplatinic acid solution and Ni2＋/N,N-dimethylformamide solution. An increase in the Ni loading decreased the crystallinity, specific surface area and meso-micropores of the catalysts. Ni interacted with hydroxyl groups to produce IR absorption bands at 3740-3500 cm-1, Increasing Ni loadings resulted in a decrease in the intensities of the broad bands at 3730-3500 cm-1 and the sharp band at 3740 cm-1 with simultaneous development of new absorbance band at 3700 cm-1 that was attributed to （-OH）Ni. The acidity of the samples did not significantly change with Ni loadings up to 1.0 wt%, which indicated that Ni mostly interacts with non-acidic silanol groups （terminal- and structural-defect OH groups）. The presence of Ni decreased the activity of PtHY toward the isomerization of n-pentane because of a decrease in the number of active protonic-acid sites that formed from molecular hydrogen. IR and ESR studies confirmed that Pt facilitated the formation of protonic-acid sites from molecular hydrogen, whereas Ni, even when combined with Pt, didn＇t exhibit such ability. The absence of protonic-acid sites from molecular hydrogen significantly decreased the yield of iso-pentane and markedly increased the cracking products.

The Enhancement of Arabic Stemming by Using Light Stemming and Dictionary-Based Stemming

Word stemming is one of the most important factors that affect the performance of many natural language processing applications such as part of speech tagging, syntactic parsing, machine translation system and information retrieval systems. Computational stemming is an urgent problem for Arabic Natural Language Processing, because Arabic is a highly inflected language. The existing stemmers have ignored the handling of multi-word expressions and identification of Arabic names. We used the enhanced stemming for extracting the stem of Arabic words that is based on light stemming and dictionary-based stemming approach. The enhanced stemmer includes the handling of multiword expressions and the named entity recognition. We have used Arabic corpus that consists of ten documents in order to evaluate the enhanced stemmer. We reported the accuracy values for the enhanced stemmer, light stemmer, and dictionary-based stemmer in each document. The results obtain shows that the average of accuracy in enhanced stemmer on the corpus is 96.29%. The experimental results showed that the enhanced stemmer is better than the light stemmer and dictionary-based stemmer that achieved highest accuracy values.
