The current healthcare system in hong kong is experiencing pressure due to constrained resources,with dramatic increases in inpatient services queue lengths,dissatisfaction with the working environment,unacceptable workforce arrangements and high turnover rate of hospital *** maintain the robustness of the healthcare system and a sustainable inpatients flow,the Food and health Bureau launched a public-private partnership programme to utilise the resources of the public and private *** research investigates the potential for extension of the programme and further enhancing the sustainability of the long-term inpatient services under a mixed public-private healthcare policy via system dynamic *** findings show that an increase of human resources in public hospitals does not substantially improve inpatient flow rate ***,the results from the system dynamic approach provide insights into the expansion of the service areas of the programme and suggest increasing the number of referrals to private hospitals.

Missing values occur in bio-signal processing for various reasons,including technical problems or biological *** missing values are then either simply excluded or substituted with estimated values for further *** the missing signal values are estimated for electroencephalography (EEG) signals,an example where electrical signals arrive quickly and successively,rapid processing of high-speed data is required for immediate decision *** this study,we propose an incremental expectation maximization principal component analysis (iEMPCA) method that automatically estimates missing values from multivariable EEG time series data without requiring a whole and complete data *** proposed method solves the problem of a biased model,which inevitably results from simply removing incomplete data rather than estimating them,and thus reduces the loss of information by incorporating missing values in real *** using an incremental approach,the proposed method alsominimizes memory usage and processing time of continuously arriving *** results show that the proposed method assigns more accurate missing values than previous methods.

The deployment of photonic integrated circuits(PICs)necessitates an integration platform that is scalable,high-throughput,cost-effective,and *** we present a monolithic InP on SOI platform to synergize the advantages of two mainstream photonic integration platforms:Si photonics and InP *** monolithic InP/SOI platform is realized through the selective growth of both InP sub-micron wires and large dimension InP membranes on industry-standard(001)-oriented silicon-on-insulator(SOI)*** epitaxial InP is in-plane,dislocation-free,site-controlled,intimately positioned with the Si device layer,and placed right on top of the buried oxide layer to form“InP-on-insulator”.These attributes allow for the realization of various photonic functionalities using the epitaxial InP,with efficient light interfacing between the III-V devices and the Si-based *** exemplify the potential of this InP/SOI platform for integrated photonics through the demonstration of lasers with different cavity designs including subwavelength wires,square cavities,and *** results here mark a critical step forward towards fully-integrated Si-based PICs.

Objective:To estimate prevalence of OSA among at risk adult patients in primary care *** test the correlation and agreement between overnight pulse oximetry and polysomnography(PSG).To test the OSA screening performance of overnight pulse *** and Setting:Prospective case series involving adult Chinese patients with risk fac-tors for OSA at a primary care clinic of hong ***:The prevalence and severity of OSA were established based on overnight pulse oximetry derived oxygen desaturation index(ODI).Screening performance of overnight pulse oxi-metry was compared directly with gold standard diagnostic test ***:Three hundred and five male and 229 female patients were ***(48.3%)was the top presenting *** hundred and twenty five patients(60.9%)were screened positive to have *** hundred and nine patients had performed PSG,the ODI_4 and apnoea-hypopnea index(AhI)had Pearson correlation coefficient 0.71(Phowed good *** designation criteria of ODI_4≥5 events/hr,the sensitivity and specificity for OSA diagnosis are 94.4%and 78.9%***:The prevalence of OSA is 60.9% among adult primary care population who are at risk for *** pulse oximetry shows good performance as a screening tool for the screening of OSA.

We consider a parallel decentralized detection system employing a bank of local detectors(LDs)to access a commonly-observed *** system makes a binary decision about the phenomenon,accepting one of two hypotheses(h_(0)("absent")or h_(1)("present")).The kth LD uses a local decision rule to compress its local observations yk into a binary local decision uk;uk=0 if the kth LD accepts h_(0)and uk=1 if it accepts h_(1).The kth LD sends its decision uk over a noiseless dedicated channel to a Data Fusion Center(DFC).The DFC combines the local decisions it receives from n LDs(u_(1),u_(2),...,u_(n))into a single binary global decision u_(0)(u_(0)=0 for accepting h_(0)or u_(0)=1 for accepting h_(1)).If each LD uses a single deterministic local decision rule(calculating uk from the local observations yk)and the DFC uses a single deterministic global decision rule(calculating u_(0)from the n local decisions),the team receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve is in general *** system's performance under a Neyman-Pearson criterion may then be suboptimal in the sense that a mixed strategy may yield a higher probability of detection when the probability of false alarm is constrained not to exceed a certain value,α>***,a"dependent randomization"detection scheme can be applied in certain circumstances to improve the system's performance by making the ROC curve *** scheme requires a coordinated and synchronized action between the DFC and the *** this study,we specify when dependent randomization is needed,and discuss the proper response of the detection system if synchronization between the LDs and the DFC is temporarily lost.

As an audiovisual medium, computer animations require superior image quality and professional soundtrack to lead audiences into their fascinating virtual world. Without sound, the impact of storytelling is reduced or the story is even not under- standable. Despite the importance of sound, most animators are unfamiliar with sound editing software. Limited budget projects such as independent or student works have difficulty hiring sound professionals to create tailor-made soundtrack. Therefore, we need a suitable sound tool to express their individual ideas. In this paper, we propose an approach using schematic for both computer animation and sound. Our approach provides (1) physical simulation on sound through animation parameters and (2) a new channel for animators to add aesthetic values in sound through their experience of using schematics in existing animation software. We demonstrate our idea through several examples, such as Doppler shift, obstacle effect, importance, energetic, and sputtering effect.
