Presence of Porphyrom.nas gingivalis in gingival squam.us cell carcinom.

Periodontal disease has been recently linked to a variety of system.c conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, preterm.delivery, and oral cancer. The m.st com.on bacteria associated with periodontal disease, Porphyrom.nas gingivalis （P. gingivalis） has not yet been studied in the m.lignant gingival tissues. The objective of this study was to investigate the presence of R gingivalis in specim.ns from.squam.us cell carcinom. patients. We have perform.d im.unohistochem.cal staining to investigate the presence of R gingivafis and Streptococcus gordonii （S. gordonii）, a non invasive oral bacteria, in paraffin em.edded sam.les of gingival squam.us cell carcinom. （n=10） and norm.l gingiva （n=5）. Staining for R gingivalis revealed the presence of the bacteria in norm.l gingival tissues and gingival carcinom., with higher levels （m.re than 33%, P〈0.05） detected in the carcinom. sam.les. The staining intensity was also significantly enhanced in the m.lignant tissue by 2 folds （P〈0.023） com.ared to specim.ns stained for the non-invasive S. gordonii. R gingivalis is abundantly present in m.lignant oral epithelium.suggesting a potential association of the bacteria with gingival squam.us cell carcinom..

Dryland Pastoralism.Clim.te Landscape and Food Security in the Suam.River Basin of Kenya

River basins in the drylands of Sub-Saharan Africa have traditionally been utilized for pastoral livelihoods under com.unal land tenure. Com.unities in West Pokot in Kenya have continued to experience increased precipitation and tem.erature as a result of clim.te variability and change. This study aim.d at assessing the im.act of clim.te variability and change at m.cro-basin level in order to address research and policy gaps on clim.te change and food security as policy arena shifts from.centralized to decentralized governance in Kenya. Prim.ry quantitative data was collected from.387 households’ perceptions of clim.te variability and change and its im.lications on food security were m.asured. Food security index score was calculated. The annual rainfall trend over Suam.river basin for the period (1981-2020), was characterized by a linearly increasing annual rainfall trend. m.nn Kendall test Z-statistics and Tau were at 2.3578 and 0.0720 respectively. The basin experienced the highest rainfall variability during the first decade (1981-1990) with the highest coefficient of rainfall variation noted at 11.5%. The highest tem.erature was recorded in the third decade (2001-2010) and fourth decade (2011-2020) at 27.0 and 28.2 degrees Celsius respectively. However, the overall index score for food security was 55.78 with food availability scoring the highest index, m.an (SD) of 63.41 (36.52). This was attributed to households’ practice of both nom.dic pastoralism.and agro-pastoralism.activities. Clim.te variability and change, have resulted in increased am.unt of rainfall received providing for opportunity investm.nt in rain water harvesting to support both pastoralism.and agro-pastoralism.production to enhance food security.

3D Printing Technology for Tapered Optical Fiber Protection With Gas Sensing Possibilities

We present a new procedure for protecting m.cro-optical fibers(tapered fibers)by using the 3-dim.nsional(3D)printing technology.A standard single-m.de optical fiber was tapered down to the diam.ter of 1m. and em.edded in a polym.ric m.trix obtained by an additive m.nufacturing *** show that the proposed structure protects the fiber taper against environm.ntal hum.dity while keeping perm.ability to gas flow and the possibility of the realization of gas detection *** our knowledge,this is the first tim. 3D printed casings were applied to protect fiber tapers from.hum.dity *** envisage this new approach will allow the developm.nt of new fiber taper devices to better resist in hum.d environm.nts.

Percutaneous coronary intervention in nonagenarians: pros and cons

Percutaneous coronary intervention is a m.instay in the m.nagem.nt of sym.tom.tic or high-risk coronary artery disease. The bulk of clinical evidence and experience underlying this fact relies, however, on relatively young patients. Indeed, few data of very lim.ted quality are available which adequately define the risk-benefit and cost-benefit profile of coronary angioplasty and stenting in very old subjects, such as those of 90 years of age or older (i.e., nonagenarians). The aim.of this review is to provide a concise, yet practical, synthesis of the available evidence on percutaneous coronary revascularization in the very elderly. The m.in argum.nts elaborated upon are to what extent we can extrapolate findings from.studies including younger patients to nonagenarians, whether we should provide higher priority to prognosis or quality of life in such patients, and whether we can afford to allocate vast resources to care for such subjects in an era of financial constraints. Our review of 18 studies and 1082 patients suggest that percutaneous coronary intervention is feasible and associated with acceptable short- and long-term.results in this population, which is nonetheless fraught with a high m.rtality risk irrespective of the revascularization procedure. Accordingly, the pros and cons of percutaneous coronary intervention should be carefully weighed when considering this treatm.nt in nonagenarians.
