The pesticide atrazine,its degradation products,and 2,6-dichlorobenzamide（BAM） are persistent in groundwater *** studied whether their dissipation can be enhanced with a mixture of a complex carbon source and zero-valent iron（ZVI） called EHC.The application rates were 1.0% and 2.0%（by weight） in subsurface sediments slurries（atrazine 30 mg/L）,and 2.0% in 1.5 m pilot-scale sediment columns with groundwater flowing through（atrazine 0.08,desethylatrazine DEA 0.03,BAM 0.02 μg/L）.In the slurries under aerobic conditions,atrazine of 0.88 ± 0.14 mg/g of EHC was dissipated chemically,as concentrations did not differ significantly between the slurries and their sterilized *** degradation occurred in the slurries under anaerobic *** the pilot-scale columns under water-saturated conditions,atrazine,DEA and BAM were not detected in effluents during 33,64 and 64 days from the beginning of the water flow through EHC columns,respectively,but thereafter traces of compounds could be *** atrazine or degradation products（BAM,DEA,deisopropylatrazine,desethyldeisopropylatrazine） could be extracted from the column sediments at the end of the *** a result,the sum of dissipated pesticides was about7.6 μg/g of EHC in columns under water-saturated conditions,and 0.88 mg/g of EHC in slurries under aerobic *** can be used to enhance the dissipation of studied pesticides in small quantities,preferentially under aerobic conditions.

The drainage of peatland areas for peat extraction, agriculture or bioenergy requires affordable, simple and reliable treatment methods that can purify waters rich in particulates and dissolved organic carbon. This work focused on the optimisation of chemical purification process for the direct dosage of solid metal salt coagulants. It investigated process requirements of solid coagulants and the influence of water quality, temperature and process parameters on their performance. This is the first attempt to provide information on specific process requirements of solid coagulants. Three solid inorganic coagulants were evaluated： aluminium sulphate, ferric sulphate and ferric aluminium sulphate. Pre-dissolved aiuminium and ferric sulphate were also tested with the objective of identifying the effects of in-line coagulant dissolution on purification performance. It was determined that the pre-dissolution of the coagulants had a significant effect on coagulant performance and process requirements. Highest purification levels achieved by solid coagulants, even at 30% higher dosages, were generally lower （5%-30%） than those achieved by pre-dissolved coagulants. Furthermore, the mixing requirements of coagulants pre-dissolved prior to addition differed substantially from those of solid coagulants. The pH of the water samples being purified had a major influence on coagulant dosage and purification efficiency. Ferric sulphate （70 mg/L） was found to be the best performing solid coagulant achieving the following load removals： suspended solids （59%-88%）, total organic carbon （56%-62%）, total phosphorus （87%-90%）, phosphate phosphorus （85%-92%） and total nitrogen （33%-44%）. The results show that the use of solid coagulants is a viable option for the treatment of peatland-derived runoff water if solid coagulant-specific process requirements, such as mixing and settling time, are considered.

This retrospective single-center registry study included all consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for a de novo left main coronary artery lesion using drug coated-balloon (DCB)-only strategy between August 2011 and December 2018. To best of our knowledge, no previous studies of DCB-only strategy of treating de novo left main coronary artery disease, exist. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) including cardiac death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and target lesion revascularization (TLR). The cohort was divided into two groups depending on weather the lesion preparation was done according to the international consensus group guidelines. Sixty-six patients (mean age 75±8.6, 72% male), 52% of whom had acute coronary syndrome, underwent left main PCI with the DCB-only strategy. No procedural mortality and no acute closures of the treated left main occurred. At 12 months, MACE and TLR occurred in 24% and 6% of the whole cohort, respectively. If the lesion preparation was done according to the guidelines, the MACE and TLR rates were 21.2% and 1.9%. Left main PCI with the DCB only-strategy is safe leading to acceptable MACE and low TLR rates at one year, if the lesion preparation is done according to the guidelines.

The use of radio-opaque markers and abdominal X-ray is the standard method for determining colonic transit time(CTT). However, when there are deviations in the intake of these markers by participants in clinical trials it is desirable to improve observations by introducingcorrections, where possible. To date, there is no standard procedure to adjust for such deviations. This report proposes a series of alternatives based on possible scenarios for deviations from the intended intake of radio-opaque markers. The proposed method to correct for missed or delayed consumption of radioopaque markers can help to increase the accuracy of the CTT measurements in clinical trials.

Impact of preoperative chemoradiotherapy on survival in patients with resectable pancreatic cancer

AIM:To explore whether preoperative chemoradiation therapy improves survival of patients with pancreatic cancer undergoing resectional surgery. METHODS:Forty-seven patients with a malignant pancreatic tumor localized in the head or uncinate process of the pancreas underwent radical pancreaticoduodenectomy. Twenty-two received chemoradiation therapy (gemcitabine and radiation dose 50.4 Gy) before surgery (CRR) and 25 patients underwent surgery only (RO). The study was non-randomised. Patients were identified from a prospective database. RESULTS:The median survival time was 30.2 mo in the CRR group and 35.9 mo in the RO group. No statistically significant differences were found in subclasses according to lymph node involvement,TNM stages,tumor size,or perineural invasion. The one,three and five year survival rates were 81%,33% and 33%,respectively,in the CRR group and 72%,47% and 23%,respectively,in the RO group. In ductal adenocarcinoma,the median survival time was 27 mo in the CRR group and 20 mo in the RO group. No statistically significant differences were found in the above subclasses. The one,three and five year survival rates were 79%,21% and 21%,respectively,in the CRR group and 64%,50% and 14%,respectively,in the RO group. The overall hospital mortality rate was 2%. The morbidity rate was 45% in the CRR group and 32% (NS) in the RO group. CONCLUSION:Major multicenter randomized studies are needed to conclusively assess the impact of neoadjuvant treatment in the management of pancreatic cancer.

Background:The pressure of pursuing an athletic career simultaneously with education may set adolescent student-athletes at risk for sport and school *** the 2 life domains of student-athletes are strongly intertwined,so far,there has not been an instrument for investigating sport burnout parallel to school *** aim of the present study was to introduce a sport burnout measure for adolescents in a dual career context and investigate its validity and reliability by using confirmatory factor ***:The participants were 391 student-athletes(51%females)who filled in a questionnaire of sport burnout and background variables in the beginning of upper secondary ***:A 3-factor model or a second-order-factor model described the data better and gave better reliability indices than a 1-factor *** 3 dimensions of sport burnout were shown to be separate,but closely related *** for convergent and discriminant validity was obtained by correlating the 3 sport burnout dimensions with depressive symptoms,self-esteem,and sport task ***:The results suggest that Sport Burnout InventoryDual Career Form(SpBI-DC)is a valid and reliable instrument for investigating sport burnout among adolescent student-athletes.

Open Science(OS)and Research has reached mixed maturity levels in *** meaning of the national project in the ecosystem of Finnish universities of applied sciences(UAS)is to enhance and elaborate OS and Open Education(OE)*** actions were defined based on a survey and interviews carried out in the Finnish UAS sector during 2018 and *** aim of both data collections was to evaluate the current status and attitudes towards open Research,Development,and Innovation(RDI)among staff *** purpose was to define the need for internal support services concerning open RDI and OE and to identify knowledge *** results revealed several gaps in understanding OS and OE ***-life actions were mostly vague,and the respondents experienced the need for *** the other hand,the attitudes towards open RDI were positive,and the issue aroused questions and *** study revealed gaps in knowledge and actions in Finnish UAS *** results have been the basis of development actions such as joint workshops,educational webinars,and common *** future plan includes the establishment of an experts’network for supporting open RDI and Education.

Cell Wall Lignin is Polymerised by Class Ⅲ Secretable Plant Peroxidases in Norway Spruce

Class Ⅲ secretable plant peroxidases occur as a large family of genes in plants with many functions and probable redundancy. In this review we are concentrating on the evidence we have on the catalysis of lignin polymerization by class Ⅲ plant peroxidases present in the apoplastic space in the xylem of trees. Some evidence exists on the specificity of peroxidase isozymes in lignin polymerization through substrate specificity studies, from antisense mutants in tobacco and poplar and from tissue and cell culture lines of Norway spruce （Picea abies） and Zinnia elegans. In addition, real time （RT-）PCR results have pointed out that many peroxidases have tissue specific expression patterns in Norway spruce. Through combining information on catalytic properties of the enzymes, on the expression patterns of the corresponding genes, and on the presence of monolignols and hydrogen peroxide in the apoplastic space, we can show that specific peroxidases catalyze lignin polymerization in the apoplastic space of Norway spruce xylem.
