Agricultural flash droughts are high-impact phenomena, characterized by rapid soil moisture dry down. The ensuing dry conditions can persist for weeks to months, with detrimental effects on natural ecosystems and crop cultivation. Increases in the frequency of these rare events in a future warmer climate would have significant societal impact. This study uses an ensemble of 10 Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP) models to investigate the projected change in agricultural flash drought during the 21st century. Comparison across geographical regions and climatic zones indicates that individual events are preceded by anomalously low relative humidity and precipitation, with long-term trends governed by changes in temperature, relative humidity, and soil moisture. As a result of these processes, the frequency of both upperlevel and root-zone flash drought is projected to more than double in the mid-and high latitudes over the 21st century, with hot spots developing in the temperate regions of Europe, and humid regions of South America, Europe, and southern Africa.

Since ChatGPT emerged on November 30, 2022, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been increasingly discussed as a radical force that will change our world. People have become used to AI in which such ubiquitous technologies as Siri, Google, and Netflix deploy AI algorithms to answer questions, impart information, and provide recommendations. However, many individuals including originators and backers of AI have recently expressed grave concerns. In this paper, the authors will assess what is occurring with AI in Visual Arts Education, outline positives and negatives, and provide recommendations addressed specifically for teachers working in the field regarding emerging AI usage from kindergarten to grade twelve levels as well as in higher education.

A review of 115 studies on Australian local area traffic management(LATM)schemes covers network planning,computer modelling,overall design considerations,the deployment of various traffic control devices,project evaluation and numerous before and after case studies.However,no research has been published about the formulation of LATM policies and the processes involved that were formulated during the 1970s and 1980s and aimed at discouraging non-local through traffic in residential areas,improving road safety,and improving environmental amenity through physical devices.This paper develops a conceptual model of the interactions amongst institutions of government(state and local),organisations(national research institutes and universities),and civil society(the consulting industry,lobby groups and community action groups).The model is implemented through a series of unstructured interviews with key players involved with research and advocacy,capacity building,and state government policy makers that determined:who was responsible for the governance of LATM schemes?What were the respective roles of institutions and organisations in relation to the early formulation of policies and plans,especially issues of authority?Who were the key players in these institutions and organisations?To what extent did external influences of ideas by overseas agents(policy transfer)occur in decision making?A recently implemented LATM scheme(Seven Ways)by Waverley Council describes the latest approaches,including community participation.The conclusions note the importance of a society investing in road research,having universities capable of delivering high-quality professional development programs,and having a consulting industry that is willing to deliver innovative,practical advice to local governments.Suggestions are made about areas for further research.

BACKGROUND Calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease(CPPD),or pseudogout,is an inflammatory arthritis common among elderly patients,but rarely seen in patients under the age of 40.In the rare cases presented of young patients with CPPD,genetic predisposition or related metabolic conditions were almost always identified.CASE SUMMARY The authors report the case of a 9-year-old boy with no past medical history who presented with acute knee pain and swelling after a cat scratch injury 5 d prior.Synovial fluid analysis identified calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals.Further MRI analysis identified osteomyelitis and a small soft tissue abscess.CONCLUSION This case presents the extremely rare diagnostic finding of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals in a previously healthy pediatric patient.The presence of osteomyelitis presents a unique insight into the pathogenesis of these crystals in pediatric patients.More research needs to be done on the role of CPPD in pediatric arthritis and joint infection.

BACKGROUND Post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer(CRC)rates for patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)are unacceptably high.During colonoscopy,an intravenous fluorescent anti-c-MET probe may improve endoscopic detection of lesions.However,c-MET expression in IBD lesions is poorly defined,limiting translational studies.AIM To comprehensively define c-MET expression in sporadic and IBD-associated colorectal carcinogenesis.METHODS c-MET expression was immunohistochemically assessed in 319 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue specimens,colonoscopically or surgically retrieved between 1994-2017.Tissue included:30 normal colorectal biopsies,30 hyperplastic polyps(HP),31 sessile serrated lesions(SSL),55 tubular/tubulovillous adenomas with low(TA-LGD,n=32)or high grade dysplasia(TA-HGD,n=23),26 sporadic(s)-CRCs,16 quiescent IBD biopsies,11 active/inflamed IBD biopsies,18 IBDassociated dysplastic lesions(IBD-dys),and 102 IBD-CRCs.Expression was scored by two independent observers as:0=absent,1=weak,2=moderate or 3=strong.Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to assess significance.RESULTS Positive epithelial cytoplasmic and membranous c-MET expression was observed in all tissues,indicating there is ubiquitous expression in the colorectum.c-MET expression was weak in normal colonic epithelium compared with each of the sporadic colonic lesions,including TA-LGD(P<0.001),TA-HGD(P=0.004),HP(P<0.001),SSL(P<0.001),and s-CRC(P<0.001).Specifically,in sporadic(non-IBD)lesions,expression was stronger in TA-LGD compared with normal mucosa(P<0.001),and stronger in s-CRC compared with TA-HGD(P=0.004).However,there was no significant difference between TA-LGD and TA-HGD(P=0.852).Further,there was no difference in c-MET expression between HP and SSL(P=0.065).In IBD,expression was weaker in quiescent colonic mucosa compared with inflamed colonic mucosa(P<0.001).There was no difference between inflamed colonic mucosa and IBD-dys(P=0.512)or IBD-CRC(P=0.296).However,expression was stronger in IBD-dys(P<0.001)and IBD-CRC(P<0

The gas content is crucial for evaluating coal and gas outburst potential in underground coal mining. This study focuses on investigating the in-situ coal seam gas content and gas sorption capacity in a representative coal seam with multiple sections (A1, A2, and A3) in the Sydney basin, where the CO_(2) composition exceeds 90%. The fast direct desorption method and associated devices were described in detail and employed to measure the in-situ gas components (Q_(1), Q_(2), and Q_(3)) of the coal seam. The results show that in-situ total gas content (Q_(T)) ranges from 9.48 m^(3)/t for the A2 section to 14.80 m^(3)/t for the A3 section, surpassing the Level 2 outburst threshold limit value, thereby necessitating gas drainage measures. Among the gas components, Q_(2) demonstrates the highest contribution to Q_(T), ranging between 55% and 70%. Furthermore, high-pressure isothermal gas sorption experiments were conducted on coal samples from each seam section to explore their gas sorption capacity. The Langmuir model accurately characterizes CO_(2) sorption behavior, with ft coefcients (R^(2)) greater than 0.99. Strong positive correlations are observed between in-situ gas content and Langmuir volume, as well as between residual gas content (Q_(3)) and sorption hysteresis. Notably, the A3 seam section is proved to have a higher outburst propensity due to its higher Q_(1) and Q_(2) gas contents, lower sorption hysteresis, and reduced coal toughness f value. The insights derived from the study can contribute to the development of efective gas management strategies and enhance the safety and efciency of coal mining operations.

Outburst of coal and gas represents a significant risk to the health and safety of mine personnel working in development and longwall production face areas.There have been over 878 outburst events recorded in twenty-two Australian underground coal mines.Most outburst incidents have been associated with abnormal geological conditions.Details of Australian outburst incidents and mining experience in conditions where gas content was above current threshold levels are presented and discussed.Mining experience suggests that for gas con-tent below 9.0 m^3/t,mining in carbon dioxide(CO2)rich seam gas conditions does not pose a greater risk of outburst than mining in CH4 rich seam gas conditions.Mining experience also suggests that where no abnormal geological structures are present that mining in areas with gas content greater than the current accepted threshold levels can be undertaken with no discernible increase in outburst risk.The current approach to determining gas content threshold limits in Australian mines has been effective in prevent-ing injury from outburst,however operational experience suggests the current method is overly conser-vative and in some cases the threshold limits are low to the point that they provide no significant reduction in outburst risk.Other factors that affect outburst risk,such as gas pressure,coal toughness and stress and geological structures are presently not incorporated into outburst threshold limits adopted in Australian mines.These factors and the development of an outburst risk index applicable to Australian underground coal mining conditions are the subject of ongoing research.

Desorption rate index(DRI)was presented to the Australian underground coal industry in 1995 as a means for determining outburst threshold limits for Australian coal seams.DRI is a measure of the gas volume released from a coal sample in the first 30 s of crushing during the Q3 stage of gas content testing,multiplied by the ratio between measured Q3 and QM.Relationships were identified between QM and DRI for both CO2 and CH4 rich coal samples collected from the Bulli Seam at West Cliff Colliery and that identified relationship was referred to as the Bulli Seam Benchmark.The outburst mining gas content threshold limit values specified for the Bulli Seam at that time,when applied to the QM-DRI Bulli Seam benchmark,was shown to closely align with a DRI value of 900(DRI900),for both CO2 and CH4 rich seam gas conditions.The Australian coal industry adopted the DRI900 as the basis for determining outburst gas content TLV for Australian coal seams.Outburst mining experience in Australia has shown that gas content is not the only significant factor that impacts outburst risk,as all significant outburst events have been associated with abnormal geological conditions,such as faults and dykes.Therefore,assessing the potential application of additional outburst risk factors,to accurately define outburst risk zones,set safe mining threshold levels,and determine appropriate mining controls,warrants further investigation.Several Australian coal mines have implemented mining procedures enabling mining to continue in areas with gas content greater than the TLV determined using the DRI900 approach,without inducing an outburst.There is a broad lack of understanding among Australian coal mine operators as to the procedure and calculations used to determine DRI.Also,there has been growing concern regarding the accuracy and validity of the DRI900 method for determining outburst TLV.A comprehensive set of gas data has been collected from Australian coal seams,including the Bulli Seam,and this data has been used to investigate the DRI,Bu
