Long-term prognosis and its associated predictive factors in patients with eosinophilic gastroenteritis

BACKGROUND Eosinophilic gastroenteritis(EGE)is a chronic recurrent disease with abnormal eosinophilic infiltration in the gastrointestinal *** remain the most common treatment ***,disease relapse and glucocorticoid dependence remain notable *** date,few studies have illuminated the prognosis of EGE and risk factors for disease *** To describe the clinical characteristics of EGE and possible predictive factors for disease relapse based on long-term *** This was a retrospective cohort study of 55 patients diagnosed with EGE admitted to one medical center between 2013 and *** records were collected and ***-Meier curves and log-rank tests were conducted to reveal the risk factors for long-term relapse-free survival(RFS).RESULTS EGE showed a median onset age of 38 years and a slight female predominance(56.4%).The main clinical symptoms were abdominal pain(89.1%),diarrhea(61.8%),nausea(52.7%),distension(49.1%)and vomiting(47.3%).Forty-three(78.2%)patients received glucocorticoid treatment,and compared with patients without glucocorticoid treatments,they were more likely to have elevated serum immunoglobin E(IgE)(86.8%vs 50.0%,P=0.022)and descending duodenal involvement(62.8%vs 27.3%,P=0.046)at *** a median follow-up of 67 mo,all patients survived,and 56.4%had at least one *** variables at baseline might have been associated with the overall RFS rate,including age at diagnosis24 kg/m^(2)(HR 0.3922,95%CI:0.1916-0.8027,P=0.014),disease duration from symptom onset to diagnosis>3.5 mo(HR 2.4725,95%CI:1.220-5.0110,P=0.011),vomiting(HR 3.1259,95%CI:1.5246-6.4093,P=0.001),total serum IgE>300 KU/L at diagnosis(HR 0.2773,95%CI:0.1204-0.6384,P=0.022)and glucocorticoid treatment(HR 6.1434,95%CI:2.8446-13.2676,P=0.003).CONCLUSION In patients with EGE,younger onset age,longer disease c

In recent years,graphics processing units(GPUs)have been applied to accelerate Monte Carlo(MC)simulations for proton dose calculation in ***,current GPU platforms,such as Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA)and Open Computing Language(OpenCL),suffer from cross-platform limitation or relatively high programming ***,the Taichi toolkit,which was developed to overcome these difficulties,has been successfully applied to high-performance numerical *** on the class II condensed history simulation scheme with various proton-nucleus interactions,we developed a GPU-accelerated MC engine for proton transport using the Taichi *** distributions in homogeneous and heterogeneous geometries were calculated for 110,160,and 200 MeV protons and were compared with those obtained by full MC simulations using *** gamma passing rates were greater than 0.99 and 0.95 with criteria of 2 mm,2%and 1 mm,1%,respectively,in all the benchmark ***,the calculation speed was at least 5800 times faster than that of TOPAS,and the number of lines of code was approximately 10 times less than those of CUDA or *** study provides a highly accurate,efficient,and easy-to-use proton dose calculation engine for fast prototyping,beamlet calculation,and education purposes.

Evolution mechanism of crystallographic orientation in grain continuator bars of a Ni-based single-crystal superalloy prepared by Bridgman technology during directional solidification

Single-crystal rods with different diameters and deviation angles with respect to the solidification direction were produced by Bridgman rapid solidification method at withdrawal rates of 3 and 6 mm·min^(-1) and used as grain *** crystallographic orientation of the rods,which cross-sections were perpendicular to the solidification direction at different solidification heights,was measured by electron backscattered diffraction,while the corresponding microstructures were observed by optical *** mushy zone morphology and the distribution of the temperature gradient were simulated by the finite element analysis software *** experimental results indicate that the crystallographic orientation of the single-crystal rods corresponds to the statistical average value of all the dendrite orientations in *** crystallographic orientation of the primary and secondary dendrites of each single-crystal rod at different cross-sections fluctuates irregularly within a small range(less than 4°).The crystallographic orientation of the dendrite in each single-crystal rod is not exactly consistent with each other and is affected by their branching mode of dendrites in the solidification *** addition,the simulation results show that the mushy zone shapes and the temperature gradient of single-crystal rods change with the increase of solidification height during the solidification ***,the evolution mechanism of the crystallographic orientations and the corresponding influence factors were analyzed and discussed.

The li-Mg-B-H composite(2liBH_(4)+MgH_(2))has a high capacity of 11.4 wt%as a hydrogen storage ***,the slow kinetics and poor cycling stability severely restrict its practical *** this work,a layered Nb_(2)C MXene was first synthesized and then introduced to tailor the kinetics and cycling stability of the li-Mg-B-H *** milled 2liH+MgB_(2)composites were initially hydrogenated to obtain the 2liBH_(4)+MgH_(2)*** 2liBH_(4)+MgH_(2)+5wt%Nb_(2)C can release 9.0 wt%H_(2)in 30 min at 400℃,while it is only 2.7 wt%for the undoped 2liBH_(4)+MgH_(2).The dehydrogenation activation energies of MgH_(2)and liBH_(4)are 123 and 154 kJ·mol^(-1)respectively for the 5 wt%Nb_(2)C-doped composite,lower than the undoped composite(164 and 165 kJ·mol^(-1)).The 2liBH_(4)+MgH_(2)+5 wt%Nb_(2)C possesses excellent cycling stability,with the reversible capacity only slightly reduced from 9.4 wt%for the 1st cycle to 9.3 wt%for the 20th ***_(2)C keeps stable in the composite and acts as an efficient catalyst for the li-Mg-B-H *** is believed that both the layered structure and the active Nb element contribu te to the enhanced hydrogen storage performances of the li-Mg-B-H *** work confirms that the Nb_(2)C MXene with layered stru cture has a significant enhancing impact on the li-Mg-B-H hydrogen storage materials,which is different from the bulk NbC.

BACKGROUND Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis(SJS/TEN)are very serious skin allergies,with an etiology related to infections and *** the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 has also been considered to cause SJS/*** SUMMARY We report the case of a woman in her thirties who took acetaminophen after contracting *** 3 d of fever relief,she experienced high fever and presented with SJS/TEN symptoms,accompanied by intrahepatic *** days of corticosteroid treatment did not alleviate the skin damage;therefore,double plasma molecular adsorption system(DPMAS)therapy was initiated,with treatment intervals of 48 *** skin symptoms improved gradually and were resolved after seven DPMAS *** DPMAS therapy is beneficial for abrogating SJS/TEN because plasma adsorption and perfusion techniques reduce the inflammatory mediators(e.g.,tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-10 and-12)speculated to be involved in the pathology of the skin conditions.

Hypomethylation of glycine dehydrogenase promoter in peripheral blood mononuclear cells is a new diagnostic marker of hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma

Background: Glycine dehydrogenase(GLDC) plays an important role in the initiation and proliferation of several human cancers. In this study, we aimed to detect the methylation status of GLDC promoter and its diagnostic value for hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma(HBV-HCC). Methods: We enrolled 197 patients, 111 with HBV-HCC, 51 with chronic hepatitis B(CHB), and 35 healthy controls(HCs). The methylation status of GLDC promoter in peripheral mononuclear cells(PBMCs) was identified by methylation specific polymerase chain reaction(MSP). The mRNA expression was examined using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(q PCR). Results: The methylation frequency of the GLDC promoter was significantly lower in HBV-HCC patients(27.0%) compared to that in CHB patients(68.6%) and HCs(74.3%)( P < 0.001). The methylated group had lower alanine aminotransferase level( P = 0.035) and lower rates of tumor node metastasis(TNM) Ⅲ/Ⅳ( P = 0.043) and T3/T4( P = 0.026). TNM stage was identified to be an independent factor for GLDC promoter methylation. GLDC mRNA levels in CHB patients and HCs were significantly lower than those in HBV-HCC patients( P = 0.022 and P < 0.001, respectively). GLDC mRNA levels were significantly higher in HBV-HCC patients with unmethylated GLDC promoters than those with methylated GLDC promoters( P = 0.003). The diagnostic accuracy of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) combined with GLDC promoter methylation for HBV-HCC was improved compared with that of AFP alone(AUC: 0.782 vs. 0.630, P < 0.001). In addition, GLDC promoter methylation was an independent predictor for overall survival of HBV-HCC patients( P = 0.038). Conclusions: The methylation frequency of GLDC promoter was lower in PBMCs from HBV-HCC patients than that from patients with CHB and HCs. The combination of AFP and GLDC promoter hypomethylation significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy of HBV-HCC.

Cationic engineered nanodiamonds for efficient antibacterial surface with strong wear resistance

The spread of diseases caused by bacterial adhesion and immobilization in public places constitutes a serious threat to public *** of bacteria spread by the construction of an antibacterial surface takes precedence over post-infection ***,we demonstrate an effective antibacterial surface with strong wear resistance by constructing cationic engineered nanodiamonds(C-NDs).The C-NDs with positive surface potentials interact effectively with bacteria through electrostatic interactions,where the C-NDs act on the phospholipid bilayer and lead to bacterial membrane collapse and rupture through hydrogen bonding and residual surface oxygen-containing reactive *** this case,bactericidal rate of 99.99%and bacterial biofilm inhibition rate of more than 80%can be achieved with the C-NDs concentration of 1 mg/*** addition,the C-NDs show outstanding antibacterial stability,retaining over 87%of the antibacterial effect after stimulation by adverse environments of heat,acid,and external ***,an antibacterial surface with high wear resistance obtained by integrating C-NDs with commercial plastics has been *** antibacterial surface with a mass fraction of 1 wt.%C-NDs improved abrasion resistance by 3981 times,with 99%killing of adherent *** work provides an effective strategy for highly efficient antibacterial wear-resistant surface,showing great practical applications in public health environments.

A Character Flow Framework for Multi-Oriented Scene Text Detection

Scene text detection plays a significant role in various applications,such as object recognition,document management,and visual *** instance segmentation based method has been mostly used in existing research due to its advantages in dealing with multi-oriented ***,a large number of non-text pixels exist in the labels during the model training,leading to text *** this paper,we propose a novel multi-oriented scene text detection framework,which includes two main modules:character instance segmentation(one instance corresponds to one character),and character flow construction(one character flow corresponds to one word).We use feature pyramid network(FPN)to predict character and non-character instances with arbitrary directions.A joint network of FPN and bidirectional long short-term memory(BLSTM)is developed to explore the context information among isolated characters,which are finally grouped into character *** experiments are conducted on ICDAR2013,ICDAR2015,MSRA-TD500 and MLT datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of our *** F-measures are 92.62%,88.02%,83.69%and 77.81%,respectively.

Reconstruct recent multi-population migration history by using identical-by-descent sharing

Identical-by-descent(IBD)is a fundamental genomic characteristic in population genetics and has been widely used for population history ***,limited by the nature of IBD,which could only capture the relationship between two individuals/haplotypes,existing IBD-based history inference is constrained to two *** this study,we propose a framework by leveraging IBD sharing in multipopulation and develop a method,MatrixiBD,to reconstruct recent multi-population migration ***,we employ the structured coalescent theory to precisely model the genealogical process and then estimate the IBD sharing across multiple *** our model,we establish a theoretical connection between migration history and IBD *** method is rigorously evaluated through simulations,revealing its remarkable accuracy and ***,we apply MatrixiBD to Central and South Asia in the Human Genome Diversity Project and successfully reconstruct the recent migration history of three closely related populations in South *** taking into account the IBD sharing across multiple populations simultaneously,MatrixlBD enables us to attain clearer and more comprehensive insights into the history of regions characterized by complex migration dynamics,providing a holistic perspective on intricate patterns embedded within the recent population migration history.
