The oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT)has been widely used both in clinics and in basic research for a long *** is applied to diagnose impaired glucose tolerance and/or type 2 diabetes mellitus in ***,it has been employed in research to investigate glucose utilization and insulin sensitivity in *** main aim of each was quite different,and the details are also somewhat ***,the time or duration of the OGTT was the same,using the 2-h post-glucose load glycemia in both,following the suggestions of the American Diabetes ***,the use of 30-min or 1-h post-glucose load glycemia in clinical practice has been recommended by several *** this review article,we describe this new view and suggest perspectives for the ***,quantification of the glucose curve in basic research is also *** in clinical practice,the incremental area under the curve is not suitable for use in the studies involving animals receiving repeated treatments or chronic *** discuss the potential mechanisms in ***,variations between bench and bedside in the application of the OGTT are ***,the newly identified method for the OGTT must achieve a recommendation from the American Diabetes Association or another official unit *** conclusion,we summarize the recent reports regarding the OGTT and add some of our own perspectives,including machine learning and others.

Association of XRCC1 gene polymorphisms with idiopathic azoospermia in a Chinese population

Aim： To assess the possible role of genetic polymorphisms in DNA repair gene XRCC 1 （X-ray repair cross-comple- menting group l） during spermatogenesis by investigating the associations of one promoter polymorphism （T-77C） and two exonic polymorphisms （Argl94Trp and Arg399Gln） in XRCC1 gene with risk of idiopathic azoospermia in a Chinese population. Methods： The genotype and allele frequencies of three observed polymorphisms were examined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism based on a Chinese population consisting of 171 idiopathic azoospermia subjects and 247 normal-spermatogenesis controls. Results： In our study, all the observed genotype frequencies were in agreement with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The 399A （GA＋AA） allele frequency for idiopathic azoospermia subjects and controls was 0.216 and 0.269, respectively. Compared with GG genotype, the AA genotype of Arg399Gln showed a significant association with a decreased risk of idiopathic azoospermia （odds ratio = 0.315; 95% confidence interval = 0.12-0.86）. However, no significant differences were found between the cases and controls for T-77C and Arg194Trp polymorphisms. The major haplotypes of XRCC1 gene were TCG, TrG and TCA, whereas no haplotypes appeared to be significantly associated with idiopathic azoospermia based on the cutoff of P 〈 0.05. Conclusion： In a selected Chinese population, AA genotype of Arg399Gln appears to contribute to a decreased risk of idiopathic azoospermia, while we have not any evidence of involvement of XRCC1 T-77C and Arg194Trp polymorphisms in idiopathic azoospermia. （Asian J Androl 2007 Nov; 9： 843-848）

Phase saddle point transformation-enabled mode-adaptive detection of acoustic orbital angular momentum with high efficiency and low crosstalk

Acoustic orbital angular momentum (OAM) provides an infinite set of orthogonal bases in Hilbert space and significantly boosts the link capacity and data transmission rate. High-capacity and low-crosstalk OAM detection within compact physical space is highly desired to effectively harness this spatial dimension of sound wave, but the existing mechanisms generally either operate only for finite OAMs with predetermined mode orders or rely on complicated active devices. Here, we propose a phase saddle point (PSP) transformation mechanism for distinguishing and demultiplexing acoustic OAM modes in a passive, mode-adaptive,high-efficiency, and high-accuracy paradigm. The phase mask characterized by a PSP in the specific area is created through the single-pass log-polar transformation without prior information of incident modes, whose interaction with incident vortex beams of different OAM modes will yield the translation of the stationary phase point and thereby generate the corresponding focused line spots at distinct lateral positions. We theoretically elucidate the mode-adaptive response of PSP transformation by deriving the quantitative relationship between the OAM order and line spot offset. This mode adaptability enables our mechanism to detect OAM of arbitrary mode orders and mode numbers with the inter-mode crosstalk being effectively suppressed, beyond attainable with the existing methods. The effectiveness of our proposed mechanism is validated by demonstrating several distinct examples of single-mode OAM sorting and multi-mode synthesized vortex beam demultiplexing. We anticipate this modeadaptive methodology, designed for compact dimensions and featuring with low crosstalk and uniform efficiency, will find important applications in OAM information processing.

This editorial assesses the prognostic value of preoperative inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers in patients undergoing surgical resection for pancreatic *** et al evaluated the ability of seven biomarkers to predict postoperative recovery and long-term *** biomarkers were albumin-to-globulin ratio,prognostic nutritional index(PNI),systemic immune-inflammation index,neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio,platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio,nutritional risk index,and geriatric nutritional risk *** PNI was found to be a strong predictor of both overall and recurrence-free survival,underscoring its clinical relevance in managing patients with pancreatic cancer.

This editorial examines a recent study that used radiomics based on computed tomography(CT)to predict the expression of the fibroblast-related gene enhancer of zeste homolog 2(EZH2)and its correlation with the survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).By integrating radiomics with molecular analysis,the study presented a strategy for accurately predicting the expression of EZH2 from CT *** findings demonstrated a strong link between the radiomics model,EZH2 expression,and patient *** noninvasive approach provides valuable insights into the therapeutic management of HCC.

Control of Corner Separation for a Linear Compressor Cascade via Bionic Slanting Riblets at the Endwall

A new passive control approach,utilizing bionic slanting riblets,is employed to mitigate the flow close to the blade endwall in a linear cascade,and its effectiveness and mechanism in controlling corner separation are investigated through numerical *** slanting riblets are positioned at the endwall upstream of the cascade channel,and the influence of riblet height,yaw angle and relative position on the control of corner separation is *** findings indicate that the application of slanting riblets can efficiently counteract corner separation across the stable operational ***,the introduction of riblets with a height of merely 0.1 times the boundary layer thickness results in a significant reduction in total pressure loss by up to 14.53%,while simultaneously enhancing the static pressure coefficient by 21.74%.Flow analysis reveals that minute vortices produced within the riblet channels tend to coalesce,forming a potent large-scale vortex near the boundary layer's base *** phenomenon results in reduced additional losses compared to conventional vortex ***,the induced vortex promotes enhanced mixing between the mainstream flow and boundary layer,inhibiting the lateral displacement of low-energy fluids within the endwall boundary ***,this delays the onset of separation vortex formation and eliminates vortex rings in the corner region,ultimately enhancing the aerodynamic efficiency of the cascade.

Catalytic atroposelective synthesis of indolyl quinazolinones bearing N-N/C-C diaxes

The first catalytic atroposelective synthesis of indole derivatives bearing N-N/C-C diaxes has been established by the strategy of de novo ring formation. By this strategy, various indolyl quinazolinones bearing vicinal N-N/C-C diaxes were synthesized in high yields with overall good diastereoselectivities and excellent enantioselectivities via chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed onepot asymmetric formal (5+1) cycloaddition/oxidation reaction. Moreover, such indolyl quinazolinones bearing vicinal N-N/CC diaxes have good configurational stability and could be converted into new chiral ligands with applications in asymmetric catalysis. Therefore, this work not only offered a new member for the family of diaxial atropisomers, but also provided a powerful strategy for catalytic asymmetric synthesis of atropisomers bearing N-N/C-C diaxes.
