Some recent publications presented a result suggesting that Zipingpu reservoir hastened the occurrence of the 2008 Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake by tens to hundreds of years. Their researches calculated the Coulomb stress change induced by Zipingpu reservoir on the rupturing fault of Wenchuan earthquake. Their results, however, are critically dependent upon the 3-D event location, reservoir location, and the fault plane orientation. We repeated Ge et al.＇s work in this paper and found that an improper dip angle parameter of their 2-D fault model might lead to a wrong conclusion. Both the modeling results based on the 2-D model and 3-D model with proper fault parameters will show Coulomb stress changes alone were neither large enough nor had the correct orientation to affect the occurrence of Wenchuan earthquake, which supports our recent argument based on the local seismicity analysis and the induced Coulomb stress change calculation with a 3-D model.

Drought events have become more severe under climate change,and this can pose a major threat to the survival of various *** molecular mechanisms involved in dehydration resistance are not well ***,adults of the migratory locust,Locusta migratoria,were subjected to food-mediated dehydration,and adipokinetic hormone(AKH)signaling was found to play a key role in regulating dehydration ***,dehydration shortened the lifespan,increased the body weight loss,and reduced the water loss rate in adult *** transcriptome profiles revealed variations in tissue-specific gene expression between dehydration-resistant locusts and normal ***,dehydration selection and exposure induced prominent expression of AKH genes in the retrocerebral complex of adult ***,individual knockdown of AKH1,AKH2,or AKH receptor(AKHR)accelerated water loss and shortened the lifespan of adult locusts under dehydration conditions,and trehalose supplementation ameliorated the negative effects caused by interference with AKH or *** findings demonstrated that AKH/AKHR signaling-dependent trehalose metabolism plays a crucial role in regulating locust dehydration resistance and thus provide novel insights into the regulatory mechanism underlying drought resistance.

Utilizing the hydrazine-assisted water electrolysis for energy-efficient hydrogen production shows a promising application, which relies on the development and design of efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts. Herein, we reported a low-content Pt-doped Rh metallene(Pt-Rhene) for hydrazine-assisted water electrolysis towards energy-saving hydrogen(H_(2)) production, where the ultrathin metallene is constructed to provide enough favorable active sites for catalysis and improve atom ***, the synergistic effect between Rh and Pt can optimize the electronic structure of Rh for improving the intrinsic activity. Therefore, the required overpotential of Pt-Rhene is only 37 mV to reach a current density of-10 mA cm^(-2) in the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER), and the Pt-Rhene exhibits a required overpotential of only 11 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2) in the hydrazine oxidation reaction(HzOR). With the constructed HER-HzOR two-electrode system, the Pt-Rhene electrodes exhibit an extremely low voltage(0.06/0.19/0.28 V) to achieve current densities of 10/50/100 mA cm^(-2) for energy-saving H_(2) production, which greatly reduces the electrolysis energy consumption. Moreover,DFT calculations further demonstrate that the introduction of Pt modulates the electronic structure of Rh and optimizes the d-band center, thus enhancing the adsorption and desorption of reactant/intermediates in the electrocatalytic reaction.

Antiretroviral therapy(ART)can effectively inhibit human immunodeficiency virus-1(HIV-1)replication,but is not curative due to the existence of a stable viral latent reservoir harboring replication-competent *** order to reduce or eliminate the HIV-1 latent reservoir,characteristics of the latently infected cells need to be intensively studied,and a comprehensive understanding of the heterogenous nature of the latent reservoir will be critical to develop novel therapeutic ***,we discuss the different cell types and mechanisms contributing to the complexity and heterogeneity of HIV-1 latent reservoirs,and summarize the key challenges to the development of cure strategies for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS).

An approach to estimate ocean wave directional spectrum using spatio-temporal array of acoustic ranging and current measurement is proposed,and the 5-beam acoustic Doppler current profiler(ADCP)constructs a spatio-temporal array of acoustic ocean surface elevation tracking and acoustic Doppler current velocity measuring for directional wave *** on the linear wave theory and the space-time equivalence principle,the time-space transfer function applicable to the spatio-temporal array is proposed,and then the time delay term is compensated in the calculation of the covariance *** method can reduce the error of the directional spectrum *** results show that for the low signal-to-noise ratio from 0 dB to 5 dB,compared with the 4-beam synchronous array method,this method has a smaller root-mean-square error of the peak estimation of the directional *** field test shows that,compared with the 4-beam synchronous array method,the 5-beam spatio-temporal array method improves the kurtosis index of the directional spectrum from 2.31 to 2.80,and the correlation coefficient between the peak wave direction results of the ADCP and the buoy is increased from 0.80 to 0.83 in mild wave ***,the spatio-temporal array method can increase the degree of freedom of wave measurement,reduce the minimum aperture of the array,and increase the upper cut-off frequency of the estimable directional spectrum.

The Longmenshan fault zone(LMSF),characterized by complex structures and strong seismicity,is located at the junction between the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau and the north-western Sichuan *** the Wenchuan earthquake on May 12,2008,abundant studies of the formation mechanism of earthquakes along the LMSF were *** this study,a short-period dense seismic array deployed across the LMSF was applied by ambient noise ***-two 3-D seismic instruments were used for data acquisition for 26 *** calculated the empirical Green's functions(EGFs)between different station-pairs and extracted 776 Rayleigh-wave dispersion curves between 2 and 7 *** then,we used the direct-inversion method to obtain the fine shallow crustal S-wave velocity structure within 6 km depth in the middle section of the Longmenshan fault zone and nearby *** results show that the sedimentary layer(>5 km)exists in the northwest margin of Sichuan Basin with a low S-wave velocity(~1.5-2.5 km/s)which is much thicker than that beneath the Longmenshan fault zone and the Songpan-Garze *** high-velocity structures with clear boundaries below the middle of Longmenshan fault zone(~2-4 km)and the Songpan-Garze block(~4.5-6 km)probably reveal the NW-SE distribution patterns of both the Pengguan complex and the high-density belt hidden in the northwest of the Pengguan *** the obviously high-velocity anomalies observed at the depth of^1-2 km in the southeastern margin of the Songpan-Garze block can be considered as the Laojungou *** results provide a high-resolution shallow velocity structure for detailed studies of the Longmenshan fault zone.

BACKGROUND Superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)is defined as cancer infiltrating the mucosa and submucosa,regardless of regional lymph node metastasis(LNM).Endoscopic resection of superficial ESCC is suitable for lesions that have no or low risk of *** with a high risk of LNM always need further treatment after endoscopic ***,accurately assessing the risk of LNM is critical for additional treatment *** To analyze risk factors for LNM and develop a nomogram to predict LNM risk in superficial ESCC *** Clinical and pathological data of superficial ESCC patients undergoing esophagectomy from January 1,2009 to January 31,2016 were *** regression analysis was used to predict LNM risk factors,and a nomogram was developed based on risk factors derived from multivariate logistic regression *** receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was used to obtain the accuracy of the nomogram *** total of 4660 patients with esophageal cancer underwent *** these,474 superficial ESCC patientswere enrolled in the final analysis,with 322 patients in the training set and 142 patients in the validation *** of LNM was 3.29%(5/152)for intramucosal cancer and increased to 26.40%(85/322)for *** logistic analysis showed that tumor size,invasive depth,tumor differentiation,infiltrativegrowth pattern,tumor budding,and lymphovascular invasion were significantly correlated with *** using these six variables showed good discrimination with an area under the ROC curve of 0.789(95%CI:0.737-0.841)in the training set and 0.827(95%CI:0.755-0.899)in the validation *** developed a useful nomogram model to predict LNM risk for superficial ESCC patients which will facilitateadditional decision-making in treating patients who undergo endoscopic resection.

Objective:To explore whether casticin(CAS)suppresses stemness in cancer stem-like cells(CSLCs)obtained from human cervical cancer(CCSLCs)and the underlying ***:Spheres from He La and Ca Ski cells were used as *** methyltransferase 1(DNMT1)activity and m RNA levels,self-renewal capability(Nanog and Sox2),and cancer stem cell markers(CD133 and CD44)were detected by a colorimetric DNMT activity/inhibition assay kit,quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction,sphere and colony formation assays,and immunoblot,*** and overexpression of DNMT1 by transfection with sh RNA and c DNA,respectively,were performed to explore the mechanism for action of CAS(0,10,30,and 100 nmol/L).Results:DNMT1 activity was increased in CCSLCs compared with He La and Ca Ski cells(P<0.05).In addition,He La-derived CCSLCs transfected with DNMT1 sh RNA showed reduced sphere and colony formation abilities,and lower CD133,CD44,Nanog and Sox2 protein expressions(P<0.05).Conversely,overexpression of DNMT1 in He La cells exhibited the oppositive ***,CAS significantly reduced DNMT1 activity and transcription levels as well as stemness in He La-derived CCSLCs(P<0.05).Interestingly,DNMT1 knockdown enhanced the inhibitory effect of CAS on *** expected,DNMT1 overexpression reversed the inhibitory effect of CAS on stemness in He La ***:CAS effectively inhibits stemness in CCSLCs through suppression of DNMT1 activation,suggesting that CAS acts as a promising preventive and therapeutic candidate in cervical cancer.
