A review of cavitation in hydraulic machinery

This paper mainly summarizes the recent progresses for the cavitation study in the hydraulic machinery including turbo- pumps, hydro turbines, etc.. Especially, the newly developed numerical methods for simulating cavitating turbulent flows and the achievements with regard to the complicated flow features revealed by using advanced optical techniques as well as cavitation simulation are introduced so as to make a better understanding of the cavitating flow mechanism for hydraulic machinery. Since cavitation instabilities are also vital issue and rather harmful for the operation safety of hydro machines, we present the 1-D analysis method, which is identified to be very useful for engineering applications regarding the cavitating flows in inducers, turbine draft tubes, etc. Though both cavitation and hydraulic machinery are extensively discussed in literatures, one should be aware that a few problems still remains and are open for solution, such as the comprehensive understanding of cavitating turbulent flows especially inside hydro turbines, the unneglectable discrepancies between the numerical and experimental data, etc.. To further promote the study of cavitation in hydraulic machinery, some advanced tooics such as a Density-Based solver suitable for highly comoressible cavitating turbulent flows, a virtual cavitation tunnel, etc. are addressed for the future works.

It is shown that the nonautonomous discrete Toda equation and its Backlund transformation can be derived from the reduction of the hierarchy of the discrete KP equation and the discrete two-dimensional Toda equation. Some explicit examples of the determinant solutions of the nonautonomous discrete Toda equation including the Askey-Wilson polynomial are presented. Finally we discuss the relationship between the nonautonomous discrete Toda system and the nonautonomous discrete Lotka- Volterra equation.

Optimum configuration of groynes for stabilization of alluvial rivers with fine sediments

Severe bank erosion at lowland rivers in Bangladesh devours vast tract of lands and renders thousands of people homeless at high flood;also,rapid deposition changes bed topographies and seriously reduces navigability at low flow *** groynes and revetments are used to mitigate these problems, but the targeted goal is not achieved as *** study investigates the optimum configuration of a groyne to improve groyne performances at both high flow and low ***-Nays,a two-dimensional model for flow and morphology,is utilized in this study upon confirmation through the detailed experimental *** channel and flow parameters are taken conforming to a typical river of *** different configurations are compared to obtain the optimum *** performance of a groyne is evaluated through three key features - erosion in channel bed(thalweg),deposition in groyne field,and scour near *** computation reveals that the modified groynes function better than the conventional ones in respect of maintenance of navigation channel at low flow and bank protection at high flood as well.

The change in appearance during the seasonal transitions in ornamental greening plants is an important *** particular,the early onset of green leaf color is a desirable trait for a *** this study,we established a method for phenotyping leaf color change by multispectral imaging and performed genetic analysis based on the phenotypes to clarify the potential of the approach in breeding greening *** performed multispectral phenotyping and quantitative trait locus(QTL)analysis of an F1 population derived from 2 parental lines of Phedimus takesimensis,known to be a drought and heat-tolerant rooftop plant *** imaging was conducted in April of 2019 and 2020 when dormancy breakage occurs and growth extension *** component analysis of 9 different wavelength values showed a high contribution from the first principal component(PC1),which captured variation in the visible light *** high interannual correlation in PC1 and in the intensity of visible light indicated that the multispectral phenotyping captured genetic variation in the color of *** also performed restriction site-associated DNA sequencing and obtained the first genetic linkage map of Phedimus *** analysis revealed 2 QTLs related to early dormancy *** on the genotypes of the markers underlying these 2 QTLs,the F1 phenotypes with early(late)dormancy break,green(red or brown)leaves,and a high(low)degree of vegetative growth were *** results suggest the potential of multispectral phenotyping in the genetic dissection of seasonal leaf color changes in greening plants.

Twelve species, including three Hystrix species, five Leymus species, Hordeum bogdanii, Pseudoroegneria spicata, Psathyrostachys huashanica, and Roegneria ciliaris, were used for expressed sequence tag-polymerase chain reaction (EST-PCR) assay. A total of 125 products were amplified by 72 sets of EST-PCR markers developed in barley, among which 106 (84.8%) products were found to be polymorphic. Each EST-PCR marker produced 0–6 polymorphic bands, with an average of 1.47. The relationship between H. duthiei ssp. duthiei and H. duthiei ssp. longearistata is close, but they are remote to H. patula. Hystrix duthiei ssp. duthiei and H. duthiei ssp. longearistata were clustered with Leymus species and Psathyrostachys huashanica, which suggested that they have close genetic relationships. The results of EST-PCR analysis are basically comparable with those obtained from studies on cytology, which indicated that EST-PCR can be used to assess the genetic relationships among the perennial species in Triticeae.

Background:Skin aging has recently gained significant attention in both society and skin care *** the biological processes of photoaging caused by long-term skin exposure to ultraviolet radiation is critical for preventing and treating skin ***,it is important to identify genes related to skin photoaging and shed light on their ***:We used data from the Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO)database and conducted bioinformatics analyses to screen and extract microRNAs(miRNAs)and their downstream target genes related to skin photoaging,and to determine possible biological mechanisms of skin ***:A total of 34 differentially expressed miRNAs and their downstream target genes potentially related to the biological process of skin photoaging were *** Ontology enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis showed that these target genes were enriched in pathways related to human papillomavirus infection,extracellular matrix(ECM)-receptor signaling,estrogen receptor,skin development,epidermal development,epidermal cell differentiation,keratinocyte differentiation,structural components of the ECM,structural components of the skin epidermis,and ***:Based on the GEO database-derived findings,we determined that target genes of two miRNAs,namely miR-4667-5P-KRT79 and miR-139-5P-FOS,play an important role in skin *** observations could provide theoretical support and guidance for further research on skin aging-related biological processes.

Physical mapping of repetitive sequences and genome analysis in six Elymus species by in situ hybridization

Genome constitution and genetic relationships between six Elymus species were assessed by physical mapping of different repetitive sequences using a technique of sequential fluorescence in situ hybridization and genomic in situ *** six Elymus species are all naturally growing species in northwest China,namely,***,***,***,***,***,and *** StStHH genome consti- tution was revealed for *** and StStHHYY for the remainder *** chromosome could be clearly characterized by physical mapping with 18S-26S rDNA,5S rDNA,Afa-family,and AAG repeats,and be allocated to a certain genome by genomic in situ *** 5S rDNA sites,each in the H and St genomes,and three 18S-26S rDNA sites,two in the St genome and one in the Y genome,were uncovered in most of the *** strong Afa-family hybridization signals discriminated the H genome from the St and Y *** H and Y genome carried more AAG repeats than St.A common non-Robertsonian reciprocal translocation between the H and Y genomes was revealed in ***,***,*** and *** of molecular karyotypes strongly suggests that they can be classified into three groups,namely,***,***,and others.
