Introduction: Ambulatory Blood Pressure Measurement (ABPM) is a non- invasive examination recommended for subjects at high cardiovascular risk, and those requiring a nocturnal drop in BP such as elderly and obese subjects, those with secondary hypertension or resistant, diabetics, subjects with metabolic syndrome or sleep apnea syndrome. The objective of this study was to evaluate the contribution of ABPM in the diagnosis and evaluation of the level of control of hypertension under treatment at the Bel Air international clinic. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive study, carried out at the Bel Air International Clinic in Conakry (Guinea) between January 2019 and November 30, 2022. It included a consecutive series of 180 consenting patients recruited through an ambulatory measurement of 24-hour blood pressure from a FUGADA brand device. Results: We collected 180 patients, with a male predominance (sex-ratio M/F = 2.46). The mean age of the patients was 48.48 ± 14.23 years. The most represented age group was that of 32 to 42 years with 50 cases (27.8%) followed by that of 43 to 52 years with 42 cases or 23.3%. The indication was for diagnostic purposes in 106 cases 58.9%, the therapeutic evaluation in 58 patients (32.2%). The examination was prescribed by a cardiologist in 98 cases (54.4%), a general practitioner in 71 cases (39.4%), a neurologist in 11 cases (6.1%). In the therapeutic evaluation, high blood pressure was controlled in 24 patients (13.3%) and uncontrolled in 34 cases (18.9%). In the diagnostic indication, high blood pressure was confirmed in 79 cases (43.9%) with a statistically significant link (Chi2 = 4.57 and p-value = 0.032). The nycthemeral mean was 187.27 ± 26.22 mmHg for systolic blood pressure (SBP) and 110.37 ± 19.06 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure (DBP), during the day, 151.64 ± 21.45 mmHg for SBP and 71.59 ± 8.67 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure. Introduction: Goitre is an increase in the volume of the thyroid gland. Goiters may be congenital or acquired, diffuse or nodular, functional or non-functional, benign or malignant. Purpose: The objectives of this work were to study and determine the frequency of benign goitre in the general surgery department of CHU Gabriel Touré, and to study epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects. Patients and Method: This was a retrospective and prospective study conducted in the general surgery department of CHU Gabriel Touré, from January 1999 to December 2019. Included in the study were all patients with benign goiter confirmed in histology, hospitalized and treated in the service. Patients with thyroid malignant tumours, strumite, thyroid tract cyst, cervical abscess and neck trauma were not retained. Socio-demographic, clinical, para-clinical, therapeutic and post-operative aspects were the study parameters. Word processing and tables were done with Microsoft Word and Excel 2016 software. Data analysis was performed with Epi info7 software, the statistical test used was the Khi2 test and a value of P 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Capability of Visible-Near Infrared Spectroscopy in Estimating Soils Carbon, Potassium and Phosphorus

The spectroscopy technique has many advantages over conventional analytical methods since it is fast and easy to implement and with no use of chemical extractants. The objective of this study is to quantify soil total Carbon (C), available Phosphorus (P) and exchangeable potassium (K) using VIS-NIR reflectance spectroscopy. A total of 877 soils samples were collected in various agricultural fields in Mali. Multivariate analysis was applied to the recorded soils spectra to estimate the soil chemical properties. Results reveal the over performance of the Principal Component Regression (PCR) compared to the Partial Least Square Regression (PLSR). For coefficient of determination (R2), PLSR accounts for 0.29, 0.42 and 0.57;while the PCR gave 0.17, 0.34 and 0.50, respectively for C, P and K. Nevertheless, this study demonstrates the potential of the VIS-NIR reflectance spectroscopy in analyzing the soils chemical properties.

Epidemiological and Clinical Aspects of Abnormal Movements in Children from 2 Months to 15 Years in the Pediatric Department of Gabriel Toure University Hospital Centre of Bamako

Introduction: Abnormal or involuntary movements correspond to a disorder in the programming and/or execution of movement. They have two characteristics;they are hardly or not at all controlled by the will and occur in the absence of any paralysis. Objective: To determine the epidemiological, clinical and etiological characteristics of abnormal (involuntary) movements in children aged 2 months to 15 years. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective, descriptive study from January 2016 to December 2018 of children aged 2 months to 15 years seen in neuropediatric consultations for abnormal movements. Results: During the study period 1920 children were seen in neuropediatric consultations and 57 presented with abnormal movements, i.e. a frequency of 2.96%. Children aged between 6 and 60 months were the most affected (54.4%). The sex ratio was 1.53. Movement abnormality was the most common reason for consultation (45.7%), followed by apyretic convulsions (28%), and laxity (5.3%). The onset was progressive in 68.4% of children. The main types of abnormal movements were chorea (31.6%), dystonia (26.3%), myoclonus (17.5%), tremor in 10.5%. The causes were infectious (73.68%). Conclusion: Abnormal movements are rare in paediatric practice. They have multiple causes and their management is urgent in certain situations that can jeopardise the future of children.

在马里的许多乡村地区,人们最关心的一个问题是如何更容易地获得安全而又可持续利用的水资源。与世界上许多国家一样,马里同样面临着多种因素造成的水资源短缺问题。本篇论文主要研究了马里Segou地区Pelengana镇居民家庭用水管理问题,包括家庭用水量、水质、水的来源及其它方面。为了解决这些问题,许多国际性和区域性以及当地供水发展组织正在积极努力,以帮助当地居民获得安全而又持久的水资源。2002年,为了促进Segou区域各供水组织建立广泛的合作关系,马里发布了“西非水倡议书(WAWI)”。马里农村地区的特点是人口拥挤、居住条件差、水资源短缺、卫生设施不足,这种生存环境导致了水传播疾病的大量发生。因此,安全的饮用水资源以及良好的卫生条件尤为重要。然而,来自Pelengan镇各卫生中心的数据显示,水传播疾病是影响居住区域内各流民营地居民健康的主要疾病。为了解决这个问题,许多政府和非政府组织正通力合作,致力于提高用水管理质量。本论文的研究目的是通过调查分析参与者家庭日常生活用水量和节约用水实际情况,以及对水质进行的微生物分析结果,提出改善用水管理状况的解决方案。Pelengana镇的数据收集采用了实地调查、直接访谈、问卷调查、调查地观测和水样提取等方法。本研究共有来自Pelengana镇三个村庄的480名居民参与,其中,女性280名,男性200名。由于13份问卷不够完整而剔除在外,因此,最终统计结果来自于467份完整问卷,其中,女性272名,男性195名。首先,通过利用方差分析LSD检验方法及结构方程模型对数据进行分析,结果表明,女性的用水量(人均90.17L/d)是男性用水量(42.43 L/d)的两倍多,主要是蔬菜和花卉种植方面的农业用水(23.87±8.74 L/d),厨房用水(14.10±4.82 L/d),洗衣(12.50±4.57 L/d),以及饮用和个人卫生用水(11.40±2.39 L/d);至于家庭庭院清洁、淋浴和饲养牲畜等方面用水,总体上看,与男性相比,女性受访者会使用更多的水。其次,通过对常用水源—特别是Pelengana镇流民居住营地的井眼、手动泵、地表水、家用容器、水井和水泥水库等水源进行了水质微生物分析,结果显示,三种指示菌的数量(总大肠菌群(48.7%),粪便大肠菌群(100%)和粪便肠球菌(37.01%))都超过了饮用水允许的限值,最高的指示菌总数达到了 1800TC/100ml水;分离得到的肠道细菌包括大肠杆菌(25.7%)、肠球菌(21.91%)、芽孢杆菌属(16.72%)、肠杆菌属(4.56%)和柠檬酸杆菌属(3.91%)。最后,在调查分析结果的基础之上,论文中提出了改善Pelengana镇用水管理状况的一些建议与对策。

Accurate Electronic, Transport, and Bulk Properties of Zinc Blende Gallium Arsenide (Zb-GaAs)

We report accurate, calculated electronic, transport, and bulk properties of zinc blende gallium arsenide (GaAs). Our ab-initio, non-relativistic, self-con-sistent calculations employed a local density approximation (LDA) potential and the linear combination of atomic orbital (LCAO) formalism. We strictly followed the Bagayoko, Zhao, and William (BZW) method, as enhanced by Ekuma and Franklin (BZW-EF). Our calculated, direct band gap of 1.429 eV, at an experimental lattice constant of 5.65325 Å, is in excellent agreement with the experimental values. The calculated, total density of states data reproduced several experimentally determined peaks. We have predicted an equilibrium lattice constant, a bulk modulus, and a low temperature band gap of 5.632 Å, 75.49 GPa, and 1.520 eV, respectively. The latter two are in excellent agreement with corresponding, experimental values of 75.5 GPa (74.7 GPa) and 1.519 eV, respectively. This work underscores the capability of the local density approximation (LDA) to describe and to predict accurately properties of semiconductors, provided the calculations adhere to the conditions of validity of DFT.

Stomach Cancer in the General Surgery Departement at the Teaching Hospital Gabriel Toure

Introduction: Stomach cancer is a malignant tumor developed at the expense of the gastric wall. Gastric cancer is a common cancer occupying the 5th rank of cancers in the world, or 5.7% of all cancers. Purpose: To study epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic aspects of stomach cancer. Methodology: This was a retrospective and prospective study, which was carried out in the General Surgery Department at the teaching hospital Gabriel Touré between January 1, 1999, and December 31, 2020, and all cases of stomach cancer were confirmed by histological examination. Result: We recorded 857 cases of stomach cancer or 40.1% of digestive cancers. The sex ratio was 1.6. The average age was 55 years ± 13 years. The main clinical signs were epigastralgia (98.6%), vomiting (93.34%), weight loss (96.03%), and anorexia (46.1%). It was adenocarcinoma (97.55%), and antropyloric location (78.64%). Patients were Stage IV (72.817%) cases. Among the 857 patients, 722 were operated on, accounting for 84.25% of the cases. Surgery was palliative in 60.66% and curative in 25.62%. Gastrectomy of 4/5 plus D2 type curage was the most performed in curative surgery. The median overall postoperative survival was 5 months. Conclusion: Stomach cancer is the most common digestive cancer in our department, the diagnosis is most often late, so palliative surgery occupies an important place.
