Visualization of Methamphetamine-Contaminated Fingermarks on Glass Surfaces by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope for Forensic Investigation

Background:Fingermark is an individual’s primary identification *** is helpful in determining individuals involved in illegal activities and is frequently encountered in clandestine *** forensic investigation,the critical question to be answered is whether a fingermark was left on a surface before or after the initiation of an unlawful *** and Objectives:This study aimed to investigate the visualization of methamphetamine-contaminated fingermarks on glass surfaces and estimate the immediacy of their *** and Methods:In this study,the prior-deposition contaminated fingermarks,i.e.,fingermarks deposited a surface priorly contaminated by methamphetamine,and the postdeposition contaminated fingermarks,i.e.,fingermarks deposited on a clean surface but subsequently contaminated with methamphetamine were visualized and compared using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope(FESEM).Results:Under FESEM,the latent fingermarks and the crystalline structure of methamphetamine were clearly *** postdeposition contaminated fingermarks appeared in smudge conditions in all the three replicate samples,where the ridge and nonridge areas could not be *** the contrary,the prior-deposition contaminated fingermark demonstrated distinct separations between ridges and ***,the application of fingerprint powders reduced the possibility to determine the immediacy of ***:To conclude,both prior-deposition contaminated fingermarks and postdeposition contaminated fingermarks can be discriminated,providing information on the instance when a fingermark was left on a surface.

Introduction:A comprehensive scene reconstruction requires forensic investigators to examine the impact marks left on various surfaces to identify whether a projectile produces a specific ***,it is further necessary to determine whether a particular ammunition has caused the *** history,designs of ammunition have evolved with the intended effects,which could leave different impact marks on a target surface,especially by ammunition with a nonconventional *** examination on impact marks and determination of their specific characteristics on sheet metal of vehicle would provide crucialforensic ***:This study was aimed to physically characterize bullet impact holes made by 11 types of 9-mm caliber *** and Methods:Two automotive doors were shot with different ammunitionsfrom the same firearm,and the morphological features of bullet impact holes were observed and ***:Bullet impact holes produced by the various ammunitions could be differentiated through careful observation of bullet hole circumferences,presence of petalling effect,metallic ring and triangular peak at the edge,and deposition of residue at the peripheral area of bullet impact *** with nonconventional design such as Inceptor‑Polycase and GECO Hexagon showed observable morphological differences and discriminated them from bullet impact holes made by conventional ***:A thorough physical examination could aid in distinguishing bullet impact holes and predicting the possible types of ammunition that had made an impact hole on a surface.

Internal hemiation of the small bowel is a relatively rare cause of intestinal obstruction. Left paraduodenal hernia resulting from abnormal rotation of the midgut during embryonic development is the most common form of congenital internal hernia. We report our experience in the diagnosis and management of a young male with left paraduodenal hernia presenting as recurrent intestinal obstruction. Correct preoperative diagnosis of left paraduodenal hernia had been difficult due to non-specific clinical presentations, but the advent of modern imaging technology makes early and correct diagnosis possible, Due to the risk of obstruction and strangulation, surgical treatment is indicated; however, timely intervention increases the likelihood of a favorable outcome.

AIM To investigate the clinicopathological significance of progesterone receptor membrane component 1(PGRMC1) and PGRMC2 in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). METHODS We performed immunohistochemical staining to evaluate the estrogen receptor(ER), progesterone receptor(PR), PGRMC1, and PGRMC2 in a clinical cohort consisting of 89 paired HCC and non-tumor liver samples. We also analyzed HCC data(n = 373) from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA). We correlated the expression status of PGRMC1 and PGRMC2 with clinicopathological indicators and the clinical outcomes of the HCC patients. We knocked down or overexpressed PGRMC1 in HCC cell lines to evaluate its biological significance in HCC cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, and invasion. RESULTS We found that few HCC cases expressed ER(5.6%) and PR(4.5%). In contrast, most HCC cases expressed PGRMC1(89.9%) and PGRMC2(100%). PGRMC1 and PGRMC2 exhibited significantly lower expression in tumor tissue than in non-tumor tissue(P < 0.001). Lower PGRMC1 expression in HCC was significantly associated with higher serum alpha-fetoprotein expression(P = 0.004), poorer tumor differentiation(P = 0.045) and liver capsule penetration(P = 0.038). Low PGRMC1 expression was an independent predictor for worse disease-free survival(P = 0.002, HR = 2.384,CI: 1.377-4.128) in our cases, as well as in the TCGA cohort(P < 0.001, HR = 2.857, CI: 1.781-4.584). The expression of PGRMC2 did not relate to patient outcome. PGRMC1 knockdown promoted a poorly differentiated phenotype and proliferation of HCC cells in vitro, while PGRMC1 overexpression caused the opposite *** PGRMC1 is a non-classical hormonal receptor that negatively regulates hepatocarcinogenesis. PGRMC1 down-regulation is associated with progression of HCC and is a poor prognostic indicator.

Intestinal lymphangiectasia, characterized by dilatation of intestinal lacteals, is rare. The major treatment for primary intestinal lymphangiectasia is dietary modification. Surgery to relieve symptoms and to clarify the etiology should be considered when medical treatment failed. This article reports a 49-year-old woman of solitary duodenal lymphangiectasia, who presented with epigastralgia and anemia. Her symptoms persisted with medical *** was finally performed to relieve the symptoms and to exclude the existence of underlying etiologies, with satisfactory effect. In conclusion, duodenal lymphangiectasia can present clinically as epigastralgia and chronic blood loss. Surgical resection may be resorted to relieve pain,control bleeding, and exclude underlying diseases in some patients.

由于建筑结构主体较多,空间能耗难以合并控制,导致目前建筑空间能源耗用量较大。为此,构建基于等效转换法的建筑空间最优节能模型,并对其仿真研究。提出建筑总体能耗作为初始优化的“尺度”概念,该尺度为建筑空间的外墙、内墙、屋顶、分户楼板以及门窗等参数,求解这些尺度的最佳标准值。采用等效转换法计算在节能条件下所能接受的最大能耗范围。在此基础上,以上述范围值为约束条件,建立控制函数。将上述提到标准尺度值和最大能耗范围设置为最优解,建立最优节能设计模型,设定温差调节因子,对每一次室内外温差实施有效调节控制,保证建筑体参数符合最佳能耗范围。仿真结果证明,所提方法对冬季采暖和夏季制冷的能耗控制效果均较佳,节能效果最优且算法收敛性高,鲁棒性较好。

Soil Respiration in a Subtropical Mangrove Wetland in the Jiulong River Estuary, China

The diurnal and seasonal variations of soil respiration （SR） were studied at a subtropical mangrove wetland in the Jiulong River Estuary from May 2010 to April 2011. SR rates were measured continuously from 08：00 to 06：00 local time （24-h time system） on July 8-9 and October 3-4, 2010; and January 15-16 and April 11-12, 2011. Similar patterns in the diurnal variation of SR were observed on October 2-3 and April 11-12, with the maximum values at 14：00 and the minimum at 00：00. However, the diurnal dynamics of SR on July 8-9, 2010 and January 15-16, 2011 showed different patterns, with the maximum values at 08：00-10：00 on above sampling dates and the minimum at 22：00 on July 8 and at 04：00 on January 16. The daily mean values of SR approximated to the values measured at 08：00. SR fluctuated with distinct seasonal patterns. The seasonal variation was characterized by a mono-peak pattern, with the highest rate （6.18 ~mol CO2 m-2 s-1） in July and the lowest rate （0.36 ~tmol CO2 m-2 s-1） in December. The results showed that the variation of SR in mangrove wetland was mainly controlled by soil temperature, and there was no significant correlation between SR and soil water content. It also implied that the model of SR in mangrove wetland should not only consider the effect of soil temperature, but also incorporate other factors, such as water level, precipitation, microbial activity and photosynthesis, which also could affect SR.

Age-related macular degeneration(AMD)is characterized by complex interactions between genetic and environmental *** we genotyped the selected 25 single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)in 983 cases with advanced AMD and 271 cases with intermediate AMD and build an AMD life-risk score model for assessment of progression from intermediate to advanced *** analyzed the performance of the prediction model for geographic atrophy progressors or choroidal neovascularization progressors versus non-progressors based on the 25 SNPs plus body mass index and smoking *** results suggest that a class prediction algorithm can be used for the risk assessment of progression from intermediate to late AMD *** algorithm could also be potentially applied for therapeutic response,and toward personalized care and precision medicine.
