Cytomegalovirus(CMV) is a common virus in patients with ulcerative colitis receiving immunosuppressive drugs. Many studies suggested that CMV infection is an exacerbating factor in patients with ulcerative colitis. The role of CMV in exacerbations of ulcerative colitis has been discussed. One of studies starting this discussion is an article entitled "CMV positive ulcerative colitis: A single center experience and literature review" by Kopylov et al. However, we think that there are some points that should be emphasized about the study. Especially, the small number of patients in the study has led to meaningless results. Large controlled prospective trials are needed to clarify the benefit of antiviral therapy for active ulcerative colitis patients.

The radiological differential diagnosis of acute pancreatitis includes diffuse pancreatic lymphoma,diffuse autoimmune pancreatitis and groove located mass lesions that may mimic groove pancreatitis.Dual energy computed tomography and diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging are useful in the early diagnosis of acute pancreatitis,and dual energy computed tomography is also useful in severity assessment and prognosis prediction.Walled off necrosis is an important complication in terms of prognosis,and it is important to know its radiological findings and distinguish it from pseudocyst.

Background: Diabetes education is crucial in empowering persons with Type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and their families to properly manage the condition by providing comprehensive knowledge, tools, and support. It boosts one’s belief in their ability to succeed, encourages following medical advice, and adds to the general enhancement of health. Objective: This study is to investigate the effectiveness of diabetes education in empowering individuals with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) and their families to effectively manage the condition. Furthermore, it strives to improve nursing care for families whose children have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM). Design: This research study investigates the efficacy of diabetes education in empowering individuals with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) and their families to effectively handle the condition. Materials and Methods: A systematic search was conducted between the years 2000 and 2022, utilizing the Medline and Google Scholar databases. The purpose of the search was to uncover relevant papers pertaining to diabetes education, management of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), nurse care, and empowerment. The search focused on peer-reviewed research, clinical trials, and scholarly articles that evaluated the efficacy of diabetes education in empowering individuals and families. Results: Diabetes education is crucial for understanding and controlling T1DM. It includes personalized sessions, webinars, group classes, and clinics that provide customized therapies. Comprehensive education enhances glycemic control and family dynamics. Nevertheless, the implementation of diabetes education for families requires specific standards, especially in the field of nursing. Conclusion: Diabetes education is essential for effectively managing Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), providing patients and families with crucial knowledge, resources, and confidence. It encourages independence in-home care and provides explicit guidelines for diabetic nurses to improve nursing care.

Objective:To identify effects of various nationwide vaccination protocols on the evolution of new SARS-CoV-2 infections among adult population and to evaluate the safety of mRNA(BioNTech/Pfizer)vaccine.Methods:Totally 10735 adult volunteers that received at least one dose of BioNTech/Pfizer or triple doses of CoronaVac participated in this cross-sectional-online survey between 1 and 10 September 2021.The information was collected covering a 5-month period from April 2021 to September 2021.Information about people who were vaccinated with only single and double dose CoronaVac were not included in this study.Results:At least one side effect after single and double dose of BioNTech/Pfizer and triple doses of CoronaVac were observed in 42.1%,42.5%and 10.9%,respectively.The most common side effects were shoulder/arm pain,weakness/fatigue,muscle/joint pain and headache.The side effects were the most frequent in single BioNTech/Pfizer,while it was the least in triple CoronaVac.The rate of positive PCR tests before vaccination was 17.6%,and decreased to 3.0%after vaccination.The rates of positive SARS CoV-2-PCR were 18.8%,3.5%,3.1%,0.5%and 4.6%in single BioNTech/Pfizer,double BioNTech/Pfizer,double CoronaVac+single BioNTech/Pfizer,double CoronaVac+double BioNTech/Pfizer and triple CoronaVac,respectively.While 1.8%of PCR positive COVID-19 cases needed intensive unit care in the pre-vaccination period,intensive care unit was required in 0%,1.5%,2.4%,0%and 4.2%after single BioNTech/Pfizer,double BioNTech/Pfizer,double CoronaVac+single BioNTech/Pfizer,double CoronaVac+double BioNTech/Pfizer and triple CoronaVac,respectively.Reinfection rate after vaccination was 0.4%.Conclusions:The rarity of COVID-19 infection after vaccination suggests that efficacy of vaccines is maintained.On the other hand,the data underscore the critical importance of continued public health mitigation.

In this study,our aim was to examine the diagnostic and prognostic significance of lymphocyte/C-reactiveprotein ratio(LCR),neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and D-dimer parameters in COVID-19 infection.The LCR,NLR,neutrophil count,mean platelet volume(MPV),C-reactive protein(CRP),and D-dimer parameters wereevaluated retrospectively.This was a retrospective cohort study with 1000 COVID-19 positive and 1000 healthycontrol groups,all over the age of 18 years.Odds ratio(OR)and 95%confidence interval(CI)values were calculatedfor each parameter found to be statistically significant in the univariate and multivariate logistic regression models.Herein,127(12.7%)of the COVID-19^(+)patients,whose data was included in this study,died.The neutrophil,MPV,CRP,D-dimer,and NLR values were higher in the COVID-19^(+)/deceased group than in the COVID-19^(+)/alive andcontrol groups(p<0.001,p<0.001,p<0.001,p<0.001,p<0.001).The lymphocyte and LCR values were lower inthe COVID-19^(+)/deceased group than in the COVID-19^(+)/alive and control groups(p<0.001,p<0.001).Variableswith statistically significance in predicting COVID-19 infection were lymphocyte,LCR,D-dimer,NLR,CRP,MPV,PLT,and neutrophil values.Statistically significant variables in predicting mortality due to COVID-19 were LCR,CRP,NLR,lymphocyte,D-dimer,neutrophil,and MPV values.A low LCR and high NLR are associated with thepresence,prognosis,and mortality due to COVID-19.LCR and NLR parameters can thus be used in clinicalmonitoring to reduce morbidity and mortality rates.

This paper explores the networks of thoughts behind words by reading architectural texts in the context of linguistics.Using a corpus-based model,our main interest is what the collocational data contribute at an architectural level.The notion of“collocation identification in architecture”was drawn from an analysis of the use of the data for Rem Koolhaas.The data for this study were collected from Rem Koolhaas’s articles from 1977 to 2014.An analysis of Koolhaas’s ideas about architecture and urban planning was conducted using the AntConc 3.***.4.0 corpus analysis toolkit.The corpus-based model reduced selected articles to words and lexical bundles using the corpus analysis toolkit.This paper explores Koolhaas’s thoughts on understanding architecture and the metaphors he uses by analyzing articles using the corpus-based analysis model.The discourse codes in the texts of Koolhaas are examined.A corpus-based model proposal tested on architectural texts has the potential to create new areas of knowledge for architectural discourse.Deciphering the texts and analyzing the codes contribute to the development of new models.

Polymer-based materials have been motivated to be an alternative support system element in the mining/tunneling industry due to their logistic and geotechnical benefits.Thin spray-on liner(TSL),a term to define the application of the material on the rock surface with a layer ranging from 2 mm to10 mm in thickness,shows some promising results.TSLs are mainly composed of plastic,polymer,or cement-based ingredients to a certain proportion.This study intends to reveal the time-dependent response of TSL specimens,cured throughout 500 d,under four constant stress levels for stable laboratory conditions.The results were correlated using two interrelated equations to predict the material’s service life(creep-rupture envelopes).The proposed correlations offered an insight into both the effective permanent support time and the strain amount at the liner failure.The time-dependent deformation of TSL,whose performance is highly responsive to creep behavior,was obtained so that the design engineers may use the findings to avoid the severe problems of material creep.Experimental data were also used to develop a Burgers(four-element)creep model.Since the liner has a nonlinear time-dependent behavior,creep models were built for each stress level separately.Subsequently,a generic equation was obtained using the nonlinear parametric dependencies.There is a good agreement between the proposed model and the experimental results.The proposed model can be used as a basis for future numerical studies related to the support behavior of aged surface support liners.

Drought stress is a significant environmental factor that adversely affects the growth and development of car-rot(Daucus carota L.),resulting in reduced crop yields and quality.Drought stress induces a range of physiological and biochemical changes in carrots,including reduced germination,hindered cell elongation,wilting,and disrupted photosynthetic efficiency,ultimately leading to stunted growth and decreased root development.Recent research has focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying carrot’s response to drought stress,identifying key genes and transcription factors involved in drought tolerance.Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses have provided insights into the regulatory networks and signaling pathways involved in drought stress adaptation.Among biochemical processes,water scarcity alters carrot antioxidant levels,osmolytes,and hormones.This review provides an overview of the effects of drought stress on carrots and highlights recent advances in drought stress-related studies on this crop.Some recent advances in understanding the effects of drought stress on carrots and developing strategies for drought stress mitigation are crucial for ensuring sustainable carrot production in the face of changing climate conditions.However,understanding the mechanisms underlying the plant’s response to drought stress is essential for developing strategies to improve its tolerance to water scarcity and ensure food security in regions affected by drought.

Peripapillary and macular vascular densities in healthy,ocular hypertensive,and different stages of glaucomatous eyes

AIM:To investigate vascular changes in different stages of glaucoma and to evaluate the role of optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)in the early diagnosis of glaucoma.METHODS:Glaucoma patients and healthy controls(n=29 eyes)were investigated in this cross-sectional comparative study.Glaucoma patients were grouped as ocular hypertension(n=44 eyes),preperimetric glaucoma(PPG;n=32 eyes),early glaucoma(EG;n=35 eyes),moderate stage glaucoma(MG;n=36 eyes),and advanced glaucoma(AG;n=35 eyes).Peripapillary and macular vascular densities(VDs)of all participants were compared and correlations of VDs and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(RNFLT),ganglion cell analysis(GCA),and visual field(VF)tests were evaluated.Area under the receiver operation characteristic curves(AUC)of the peripapillary and macular VD parameters were obtained.RESULTS:VD values decreased with the progression of glaucoma.Most peripapillary and macular VD parameters of PPG and EG groups were lower than healthy controls(P<0.001).There was no significant difference in RNFLT between the PPG and EG groups,but most peripapillary and macular VDs were found to be lower in EG group than in PPG group(P<0.05).In most disease group,VDs were significantly correlated with OCT parameters(P<0.001)and VF index(P<0.05).There were no significant correlations between VF and RNFLT indices in the AG group,but significant correlations were found between VF and VD values(P<0.05).AUC for discriminating between healthy and glaucomatous eyes were highest in whole image peripapillary VD(AUC:0.865,0.929,and 0.986,respectively in EG,MG,and AG groups).CONCLUSION:OCTA can be used in the early diagnosis of glaucoma and can be useful in follow-up of the advanced disease.In cases where limitations or suspicions in structural and functional tests are present,OCTA can be used as a supportive diagnostic test,both in EG and AG.
