Anthropogenic noise can affect a num..r of behavioral,physiological,and ecological aspects of anim..s from..ajor taxonom.. groups,raising serious conservation *** exam..e,noise pollution im..cts com..nicative behavior and perception of signals,m..em..ts and distribution,as well as predator–prey interactions,such as hunting success or predator detection and predation risk *** have carried out an experim..tal playback study,in which we investigated whether exposure to anthropogenic noise(sound of a tractor)distracts free-ranging barn swallows Hirundo rustica from..aying attention to an approaching hum..“predator”(the“cognitive distraction”hypothesis),or whether noise leads to increased responsiveness to this“predator”(the“increased threat”hypothesis).The subjects were m..e barn swallows attending their breeding territories during the tim..when the fem..es were *** found that barn swallow m..es initiated fight at signifcantly greater distances to the approaching hum..“predator”in the noise treatm..t than during the quiet control *** results suggest that anthropogenic noise causes increased vigilance and reactivity rather than a distraction,enabling birds to avoid the“predator”m..e *** further discuss the m..hanism..ehind the increased alertness in response to noise and contrast the“increased threat”m..hanism..sually tested in previous studies,with an alternative“cognitive sensitization”m..hanism.

Predicting the Stitch Density of Finished Fabrics Using Weft Blended Grey Knit Fabrics

Stitch density is one of the critical quality param..ers of knit fabrics. This param..er is closely related to other physical quality param..ers like fabric weight, fabric tightness factor, fiber types, blend ratio, yarn diam..er and linear density, and fabric structure. Selecting stitch density (wales per inch, course per inch) is essential to getting the appropriate fabric weight and desired quality. Usually, no rules or assum..ions exist to get the desired stitch density in the finished fabric stage. Fifteen types of blended knit fabrics were prepared to conduct the study. The varying percentages of cotton, polyester, and elastane are incorporated in the blends. Regression analysis and regression ANOVA tests were done to predict the stitch density of finished fabrics. A suitable regression equation is established to get the desired results. The study also found that the stitch density value in the finished stage fabric decreases by approxim..ely 15% com..red to the stitch density in the grey fabric stage. This study will help the fabric m..ufacturers get the finished fabric stitch density in advance by utilizing the grey fabric stitch density data set. The author expects this research to benefit the knitting and dyeing industry, new researchers, and advanced researchers.

Erosion as a natural process produces soils, which are very im..rtant natural resources for the fest land plant- and anim.. kingdom.. Loss of the soil cover reduces agricultural production, biodiversity, and the role of soil as a filter for infiltrating water to replenish the groundwater. it also threatens the food supplies. The knowledge of erosion rates of rocks and terrains is im..rtant for developing proactive m..sures to protect soils from..rosion and loss. in this study, erosion rates of catchm..t areas were calculated based on dam.. catchm..t extensions and the sedim..t loads transported by flood flows into dam.. lakes. The study results show that the chem..ally, via floodwater, transported quantities of m..erials are negligible com..red to the solid m..erials transported by the water. it calculates erosion rates ranging from...013 to 0.212 m..yr (13 - 212 m..06 yr) for the different catchm..t areas. Erosion rates in Jordan are, generally, higher than those calculated for the different parts of the world ranging from...5 to 60 m..06 yr. This fact can be explained by the very steep topography, calcareous rock cover of the catchm..t areas and the barren rock exposures.
