Long-term monitoring reveals the effect of precipitation and silviculture on Nothofagus regeneration in Northern Patagonia mixed forests

Background Tree regeneration is a key component of resilience because it promotes post-disturbance recovery of forests. Northwestern Patagonia from Argentina is occupied by Nothofagus alpina（Na）, N. obliqua（No）, and N. dombeyi（Nd） forests that grow along an intense precipitation gradient, managed throughout shelterwood silvicultural system by technicians of the Lanin Natural Reserve. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of seeding cuttings over the dynamics of Nothofagus mixed forests across landscape（precipitation gradient） based mainly on the composition and abundance of tree regeneration, permanent sampling plots and generalized linear mixed models. In particular, we analysed:（i） the structure of sexual and asexual regeneration during 20 years after harvest（the dynamics of managed forests）, and（ii） the structure of sexual regeneration in primary and managed forests after > 20 years of harvest（the effect of silviculture）.Results Nd was the most abundant species in the regeneration of managed forests during all periods in both sites despite its lower contribution to the adult cohort. During the 10–20 years period after harvest, the humid site exhibited higher regeneration density than the mesic site(120,000 and 6000 ind ha-1, respectively), and it decreased afterwards. The number of established regeneration（> 2 m height） was lower for Na in the mesic site and for No in the humid site(0 and 57 ind ha-1, respectively). However, in comparison to No, Na showed a higher number of sprouted stumps and sprouts per stump, and a higher sprout height in the mesic site. No exhibited higher sprout mortality in the humid site. Finally, the regeneration of primary forests showed lower density and height, and a more balanced composition than that of managed *** The silvicultural effects on the mixed forest regeneration dynamics was strongly influenced by the condition of sites. 将氢化聚苯乙烯-丁二烯-聚苯乙烯（SEBS）与聚丙烯（PP）和聚乙烯（pe）通过双螺杆挤出机进行熔融共混后，制备得到PP/SEBS/HDpe三元共混物，采用冲击试验机、热重分析仪（TGA）、红外光谱仪、差示扫描量热仪（DSC）等手段对共混物的流动性能、力学性能、热性能、结晶行为、相容性等进行研究分析。结果表明，在PP/pe体系中，随着pe的增加，共混物的流动性逐渐变好，当pe含量为20%时，共混物的拉伸强度、冲击强度、断裂伸长率达到最高，此时其力学性能最优；在三元共混体系中，随着SEBS含量的增加，共混物的悬臂梁冲击强度大幅提高，当SEBS添加量为8%时，共混物的力学性能最优，因此最优体系为PP/20%HDpe/8%SEBS，此时共混物的相容性最好。

Complications of extrahepatic echinococcosis:Fistulization of an adrenal hydatid cyst into the intestine

Echinococcal cysts are usually found in liver and lungs, but any other organ can potentially be involved. Extrahepatic disease due to hydatid cyst may develop in the abdominal and pelvic cavity, aside from in other less common locations, which may make both diagnosis and treatment more complex. We present a rare case of extrahepatic echinococcosis in a 70-year old patient with a 4-d history of dull abdominal pain, anemia within the transfusion range and fever. She underwent surgery for left renal hydatid cysts 30 years ago. After non operative treatment, imaging studies showed a calcified hydatid cyst in a retrogastric location communicating with a proximal jejunal loop. en-block resection of the mass together with the adrenal gland was performed including closure of the enteric fistula. Anatomic pathology confirmed the diagnosis of a calcified hydatid cyst of left adrenal origin. Surgery is the treatment of choice and most authors recommend removal of cyst and adrenal gland.

为探究聚乙烯(pe)和聚丙烯(PP)两种微塑料对生菜生长及生理特性的影响,以生菜(意大利生菜333)为供试材料进行水培试验,设置对照(CK)、3个pe水平(0.1、0.5、1.0 g·L^(-1))、3个PP水平(0.1、0.5、1.0 g·L^(-1))共7个处理,pe和PP粒径均为13μm,测定了生菜生物量、根系形态参数、光合参数、叶片和根系超微结构以及抗氧化能力等相关指标。试验结果表明:微塑料胁迫下,生菜的干质量显著降低了9.6%~65.4%,根体积显著减少了18.3%~50.2%,光合参数先升高了20.5%后降低40.4%,叶绿素a和类胡萝卜素含量也显著降低了26.1%和29.9%。从叶片和根系的超微结构来看,生菜叶片叶绿体及根系细胞膜、细胞壁均遭受到两种微塑料不同程度的破坏。与CK相比,生菜超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、过氧化物酶(POD),过氧化氢酶(CAT)和抗坏血酸过氧化物酶(APX)活性分别增加了3.0~15.0倍、24.8%~164.0%、2.8~12.0倍和3.5~8.1倍,丙二醛(MDA)和抗坏血酸(ASA)含量增加了1.2~18.9倍和7.2%~10.1%。微塑料对生菜叶片和根系细胞有明显毒害作用,其可破坏叶肉细胞叶绿体,导致生菜叶片的光合参数及光合色素含量降低,同时也抑制了根系的生长发育,降低了其生物量。另外,试验表明生菜抗氧化系统对两种微塑料均产生了响应。

AIM:To evaluate the effectiveness of infliximab as a second-line therapy in Crohn's disease patients after adalimumab failure. METHODS:A historical cohort study in a community-based gastroenterology practice evaluated Crohn's disease patients treated with infliximab (induction plus maintenance) after adalimumab failure. Patients were identified using a large Spanish database (enEIDA). RESULTS:We included 15 Crohn's disease patients who received infliximab after adalimumab failure. Five patients discontinued adalimumab due to loss of response, 3 due to adverse events and 7 due to partial response. After infliximab therapy was started, all patients who had interrupted adalimumab due to loss of efficacy regained response. All patients who discontinued adalimumab due to adverse events responded to infliximab and maintained this response; one of these patients had an uneventful course on infliximab, but 2 developed adverse events. None of the 7 patients who interrupted adalimumab due to partial response reached remission with infliximab. CONCLUSION:Switching from adalimumab to infliximab may be useful in patients who develop adverse effects or loss of response, however, the benefit of infliximab in primary nonresponders was not established.

The objective of this study is to determine the auditory gain, quality of life, audiological benefits, in bone-anchored hearing device users (BAHA). It is a retrospective and concurrent evaluation of thirty patients fitted unilaterally and seven fitted bilaterally for at least six months. Patients were assessed with audiometric testing and application of Glasgow Benefit Inventory (GBI) and Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit (APHAB). Regarding sound-field pure audiometry results, we found a statistically significant gain in all frequencies using the bone-anchored device. APHAB scores showed statistically significant subjective audiological gains in all subscales except for the aversiveness subscale. GBI mean scores for all items in both groups were all above 3, suggesting quality of life improvement in conductive and mixed hearing loss patients. BP100 users showed a greater clinical gain in the APHAB global score and subscales compared with Divino users. In conclusion the BAHA provides significant auditory gain, subjective audiological benefits and improves quality of life in all BAHA users. This study shows a significant clinical and statistical benefit of BAHA measured by audiometric testing and by the APHAB and GBI questionnaires.
