Geospatial simulation models can help us understand the dynamic aspects of Digital *** implement high-performance simulation models for complex geospatial problems,grid computing and cloud computing are two promising computational *** research compares the benefits and drawbacks of both in Web-based frameworks by testing a parallel Geographic Information System(GIS)simulation model(Schelling’s residential segregation model).The parallel GIS simulation model was tested on XSEDE(a representative grid computing platform)and Amazon EC2(a representative cloud computing platform).The test results demonstrate that cloud computing platforms can provide almost the same parallel computing capability as high-end grid computing ***,cloud computing resources are more accessible to individual scientists,easier to request and set up,and have more scalable software architecture for on-demand and dedicated Web *** advantages may attract more geospatial scientists to utilize cloud computing for the development of Digital Earth simulation models in the future.

Biosynthesis and thermal properties of poly（3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate）（PHBV） with different HV （hydrovalerate） content produced by a Bacillus cereus strain were investigated. A large variety of HV contents （up to about 90 mol%） of PHBV could be produced by this strain. Combined nitrogen sources containing both yeast extract and ammonium sulphate were better for cell growth and polyhydroxyalkanoates （PHA） production than either yeast extract or ammonium sulphate alone. Propionic acid is more favorable for the production of HV content than that of valeric acid. Finally, thermal properties of PHBV produced by this strain are found close to the results of other groups.

Gene expression studies are important for revealing gene functions putatively involved in biological processes. We were interested in identifying differentially expressed genes during leaf development in rice. We combined the RNA arbitrarily primed-polymerase chain reaction （***） and dot blot hybridization methods to screen a rice leaf primordium cDNA library. Three developmental stages during vegetative growth were examined. The cDNA clones showing different hybridization patterns were further analyzed and verified. Here we demonstrate that the combination of RAP-PCR and dot blot hybridization could provide an efficient and relatively low-cost cDNA library screening approach to discover genes not previously known to be associated with leaf development in rice, We believe that the findings described here will help to elucidate the molecular mechanism（s） underlying the developmental processes of rice leaf

AIM： Endoscopic sphincterotomy （ES） is a well-established therapeutic modality for the removal of common bile duct （CBD） stones. Alter ES there are still around 10% of patients that experience recurrent CBD stones. The aim of this study is to investigate the composition of CBD stones before and alter ES and its clinical significance in Chinese ***： From January 1996 to December 2003, 735 patients with CBD stones received ES at Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital and stone specimens from 266 patients were sent for analysis. Seventy-five patients had recurrent CBD stones and stone specimens from 44 patients were sent for analysis. The composition of the stones was analyzed by infrared （IR） spectrometry and they were classified as cholesterol or bilirubinate stones according to the predominant composition. Clinical data were ***： In the initial 266 stone samples, 217 （82%） were bilirubinate stones, 42 （16%） were cholesterol stones,3 were calcium carbonate stones, 4 were mixed cholesterol and bilirubinate stones. Patients with bilirubinate stones were significantly older than patients with cholesterol stones （66＋13 years vs 56＋17 years, P = 0.001）. In the 44 recurrent stone samples, 38 （86%） were bilirubinate stones, 3 （7%） were cholesterol stones, and 3 were mixed cholesterol and bilirubinate stones. In 27 patients, both initial and recurrent stone specimens can be obtained,23 patients had bilirubinate stones initially and 2 became cholesterol stones in the recurrent attack. In the four patients with initial cholesterol stones, three patients had bilirubinate stones and one patient had a cholesterol stone in the recurrent ***： Bilirubinate stone is the predominant composition of initial or recurrent CBD stone in Chinese patients, The composition of CBD stones may be different from initial stones afl：er ES,

AIM:To report the incidence of non-small-bowel bleeding pathologies encountered during double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) procedures and to analyse their ***: A retrospective study of a prospective DBE database conducted in a tertiary-referral center was conducted. A total of 179 patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) referred for DBE from June 2004 to November 2008 were analysed looking for the incidence of non-small-bowel lesions (NSBLs; all and newly diagnosed) encountered during ***: There were 228 (150 antegrade and 78 retrograde) DBE procedures performed in 179 patients. The mean number of DBE procedures was 1.27 per patient. The mean age (SD) of the patients was 62 ± 16 years old. There were 94 females (52.5%). The positive yield for a bleeding lesion was 65.9%. Of the 179 patients, 44 (24.6%) had NSBLs (19 of them had dual pathology with small-bowel lesions and NSBLs); 27 (15.1%) had lesions not detected by previous endoscopies. The most common type of missed lesions were vascular ***: A significant proportion of patients (24.6%) had lesions within reach of conventional endoscopy. Careful repeat examination with gastroscopy and colonoscopy might be required.

Parasites are known to be a key driving force in mate choice and are important for the expression and evolution of ornaments and behavioral traits being ***,there is little experimental evidence on how the parasite’s burden of the choosing individual is integrated into the mate-choice process and how it affects decision-making,especially in relation to parasite infestation of potential ***,the aim of our study was to determine whether female house sparrows Passer domesticus adjust their mate preference according to their own as well as the parasite load of prospective *** do this,we experimentally manipulated female parasite load and determined their mate preferences prior to and after parasite *** manipulated the chronic coccidian parasite burden of females either by initiating the acute infection phase via re-infecting them with coccidian or by temporally reducing the parasite load of *** then measured the effect of this manipulation on mate preference by presenting females with a choice of four stimuli:three males with similar ornaments,but unmanipulated,naturally varying chronic coccidiosis levels,and an unmanipulated control ***,we recorded some males’behavior in relation to their infection status pointing toward an increased or reduced interest in *** found that females preferred highly infested males prior to manipulation,regardless of their own infestation ***,after manipulation,infested females avoided highly infested males probably in response to the deterioration of their health condition by *** study suggests that mate-choice decisions are more complex when they are mediated by *** implications of parasites for evolutionary theories of sexual signaling and mate choice are discussed.

In the last decades, higher attention has been paid to olfactory perception in birds. As a consequence, a handful of avian species have been discovered to use olfaction in different contexts. Nevertheless, we still have a very limited knowledge about the use of odor cues in avian social life, particularly, in the case of songbirds. Here, we investigate if female house sparrows Passer domesticus show any preference for the odor of kin and nonkin conspecifics and we also test a possible role of familiarity based on male see nt in female choice. We performed the experiment with captive birds twice, duri ng the non breeding and breedi ng seas ons. Our results show that female house sparrows strongly avoided the odor of unrelated familiar (UF) males, both in the breeding and nonbreeding seasons. Our results suggest recognition for olfactory stimuli related to familiarity and kin ship. We suggest that avoidance for UF males is associated with previous experie nee in this species. Also, we provided further evidenee to the use of olfaction in passerine species by using a new experimental setup.

In the development of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),secondary building units(SBUs)have been utilized as molecular modules for the construction of nanoporous materials with robust *** solvothermal synthetic conditions,dynamic changes in the metal coordination environments and ligand coordination modes of SBUs determine the resultant product ***,MOF phases with new topologies can also be achieved by post-synthetic treatment of as-synthesized MOFs via the introduction of acidic or basic moieties that cause the simultaneous cleavage/reformation of coordination bonds in the solid *** this sense,we studied the solid-state transformation of two ndc-based Zn-MOFs(ndc=1,4-naphthalene dicarboxylate)with different SBUs but the same pcu topology to another MOF with sev *** of the chosen MOFs with pcu nets is[Zn_(2)(ndc)_(2)(bpy)]_(n)(bpy=4,4,-bipyridine),(6C_(bpy)-MOF)consisting of a 6-connected pillared-paddlewheel SBU,and the other is IRMOF-7 composed of 6-connected Zn40(C 00)6 SBUs and *** post-structural modification,these pcu MOFs were converted into the same MOF with sev topology constructed from the uncommon 7-connected Zri_(4)O(COO)_(7)SBU(7C-MOF).The appropriate post-synthetic conditions for the transformation of each SBUs were systematically *** addition,the effect of the pillar molecules in the pillared-paddlewheel MOFs on the topology conversion was studied in terms of the linker basicity,which determines the inertness during the solid-state phase *** post-synthetic modification approach is expected to expand the available methods for designing and synthesizing MOFs with controlled topologies.

鉴于MIC P+-Poly-Si薄膜具有比较好的电学特性和近似半透半反的光学特性,本文提出一种以此用作透反双重功能LCD下电极的LCD基板的设计考虑。并针对MIC多晶硅薄膜在红、绿和蓝三色区的透射率与反射率的差异,采用不同面积的铝反射片巧妙地予以平衡和补偿。校正结果表明在可见光范围内,其红光、绿光和蓝光处的透射率和反射率基本符合白光平衡的要求。用该薄膜多晶硅作LCD像素电极技术制备的AMLCD中,其像素电极既是驱动TFT的漏极的延伸,而铝反射镜又是与TFT的电极连线同层制备。这样,不仅可以制备出性能良好透、反双功能的LCD基板,而且明显简化了AMLCD制备工艺流程。工艺流程的简化将有利降低制造成本。
