Experimental evaluation of reinforced concrete beam specimens with different characteristics of reinforcement subjected to pushover and cyclic loading is *** hinge rotation parameters are determined based on the idealization of pushover and hysteresis curves of reinforced concrete beam specimens constructed in two percentage of reinforcement(0.471%and 0.71%) with different ductile *** experimental test results provide a clear demarcation of the effect of types of loading and the types of reinforcement on the nonlinear performance characteristics of beam *** results are helpful to update the nonlinear modeling parameters of beam components for the specific type of reinforcement used in the construction of a *** updated non-linear modeling parameters of beam components in lumped plasticity model are compared with the values of ASCE/SEI 41-06(2007) used for the performance based design of structures.

Freeform optics has become the most prominent element of the optics industry. Advanced freeform optical designs supplementary to ultra-precision manufacturing and metrology techniques have upgraded the lifestyle, thinking, and observing power of existing *** related to space explorations, portability, accessibility have also witnessed sensible in today’s time with freeform optics. Present-day design methods and fabrications techniques applicable in the development of freeform optics and the market requirements are focussed and explained with the help of traditional and non-traditional optical applications. Over the years,significant research is performed in the emerging field of freeform optics, but no standards are established yet in terms of tolerances and definitions. We critically review the optical design methods for freeform optics considering the image forming and non-image forming applications. Numerous subtractive manufacturing technologies including figure correction methods and metrology have been developed to fabricate extreme modern freeform optics to satisfy the demands of various applications such as space, astronomy, earth science, defence,biomedical, material processing, surveillance, and many more. We described a variety of advanced technologies in manufacturing and metrology for novel freeform optics. Next, we also covered the manufacturing-oriented design scheme for advanced optics. We conclude this review with an outlook on the future of freeform optics design, manufacturing and metrology.

Identification of parameter to assess cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures subjected to aging and moisture conditioning

This study comprehensively evaluated different parameters based on tensile strength testing to assess the cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures subjected to aging and moisture *** this purpose,two sources of aggregates were selected to produce hot and warm mix asphalt *** mixtures were subjected to short term and long term aging,three levels of moisture conditioning(freeze thaw cycles),and tested at two temperatures(15℃and 25℃).The load-displacement data was used to determine the fracture work density,fracture energy,toughness index,cracking resistance index,cracking tolerance index,and rate dependent cracking *** was noticed that moisture conditioning increased the variability of the different *** cracking tolerance index and rate dependent cracking index parameter had a much higher coefficient of variation(Co v)with a maximum value close to 50%.Indirect tensile strength,fracture energy,and fracture work density appropriately captured the effect of moisture on cracking resistance of *** cracking resistance index,cracking tolerance index,and rate dependent cracking index increased with an increase in the moisture conditioning *** Statistical analysis showed that tensile strength,fracture work density,and fracture energy were significantly influenced by different aging and moisture conditions *** energy showed better association with fatigue life of asphalt mixtures subjected to three freeze-thaw cycles compared to tensile ***,the fatigue life prediction models showed that both indirect tensile strength and fracture energy significantly influence the fatigue life of asphalt mixtures subjected to aging and moisture conditioning.

The oldest Asian record of alpheid shrimps,assigned to genus Alpheus,based on snapping claw fingertips from the Miocene Khari Nadi Formation in the Kutch Basin,western India reported herein,extends the fossil record of the family Alpheidae from Asia by~22 million *** early Miocene(Aquitanian)age is estimated based on the associated assemblage of calcareous nannofossils,Sphenolithus disbelemnos,Cyclicargolithus floridanus,and Reticulofenestra *** co-occurring microbiota includes bony fish otolith remains,identified as“genus Gobiidarum”,isolated teeth of Dasyatis rays,Sphyrna sharks,and teleosts,ctenoid and placoid scales,ostracods,belonging to the genera Paractinocythereis,Alocopocythere,Ruggieria,Aglaiocypris,Bairdoppilata,and echinoid *** together,the microfossil assemblage and data from chemical analyses using Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy,X-Ray Diffraction and Wavelength Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence of host and associated lithologies suggests prevalence of a shallow(neritic)to coastal marine(intertidal)depositional *** present investigation also provides the oldest fossil evidence on the co-occurrence of Alpheus and gobiids(based on otoliths)that strongly advocates that the mutualistic association between these animal groups had developed by the Aquitanian.

Understanding the behavior of recycled aggregate concrete by using thermogravimetric analysis

The physio-chemical changes in concrete mixes due to different coarse aggregate(natural coarse aggregate and recycled coarse aggregate(RCA))and mix design methods(conventional method and Particle Packing Method(PPM))are studied using thermogravimetric analysis of the bydrated cement paste.A method is proposed to estimate the degree of hydration(a)from chemically bound water(WB).The PPM mix designed concrete mixes exhibit lower *** aggregate concrete(RAC)mixes exhibit higher and a after 7 d of curing,contrary to that after 28 and 90 *** chemically bound water at infinite time(WBo)of RAC mixes are lower than the respective conventional concrete *** lower WBo,Ca(OH)2 bound water,free Ca(OH)2 content and FT-IR analysis substantiate the use of pozzolanic cement in the parent concrete of *** compressive strength of concrete and a cannot be correlated for concrete mixes with different aggregate type and mix design method as the present study confirms that the degree of hydration is not the only parameter which governs the macro-mechanical properties of *** this regard,further study on the influence of interfacial transition zone,voids content and aggregate quality on macro-mechanical properties of concrete is needed.

Mechanical behaviors of deep pillar sandwiched between strong and weak layers

A variety of coal room and pillar mining methods have been efficiently practiced at depths of up to 500 m with least strata mechanics ***,for the first time,this method was trialled at depths of 850 e900 m in CSM mine of Czech *** rhomboid-shaped coal pillars with acute corners of 70,surrounded with 5.2 m wide and 3.5e4.5 m high mine roadways,were *** were developed in a staggered manner with their size variation in the Panel II from 83 m×25 m to 24 m×20 m(corner to corner)and Panel v from 35 m×30 m to 26 m×16 *** seam inclined at 12was affected by the unusual slippery slickenside roof bands and sometimes in the floor levels with high vertical stress below strong and massive sandstone *** order to ensure safety,pillars in both the panels were continuously monitored using various geotechnical instruments measuring the induced stresses,side spalling and roof *** panels suffered high amounts of mining induced stress and pillar failure with side-spalling up to 5 m from all *** fracturing of coal pillar sides was controlled by fully encapsulated steel *** induced stress kept increasing with the progress of development of pillars and *** installed in the pillar failed to monitor actual induced stress due to fracturing of coal mass around it which created an apprehension of pillar failure up to its core due to high vertical mining induced *** risk was reduced by carrying out scientific studies including the three-dimensional numerical models calibrated with data from the instrumented *** attempt has been made to study the behavior of coal pillars and their yielding characteristics at deeper cover based on field and simulation results.
