Electroluminescence from pure resonant states in hBN-based vertical tunneling junctions

Defect centers in wide-band-gap crystals have garnered interest for their potential in applications among optoelectronic and sensor ***,defects embedded in highly insulating crystals,like diamond,silicon carbide,or aluminum oxide,have been notoriously difficult to excite electrically due to their large internal *** address this challenge,we realized a new paradigm of exciting defects in vertical tunneling junctions based on carbon centers in hexagonal boron nitride(hBN).The rational design of the devices via van der Waals technology enabled us to raise and control optical processes related to defect-to-band and intradefect *** fundamental understanding of the tunneling events was based on the transfer of the electronic wave function amplitude between resonant defect states in hBN to the metallic state in graphene,which leads to dramatic changes in the characteristics of electrons due to different band structures of constituent *** our devices,the decay of electrons via tunneling pathways competed with radiative recombination,resulting in an unprecedented degree of tuneability of carrier dynamics due to the significant sensitivity of the characteristic tunneling times on the thickness and structure of the *** enabled us to achieve a high-efficiency electrical excitation of intradefect transitions,exceeding by several orders of magnitude the efficiency of optical excitation in the sub-band-gap *** work represents a significant advancement towards a universal and scalable platform for electrically driven devices utilizing defect centers in wide-band-gap crystals with properties modulated via activation of different tunneling mechanisms at a level of device engineering.

An electrolyte destined for use in a dual-ion battery(DIB)must be stable at the inherently high potential required for anion intercalation in the graphite electrode,while also protecting the Al current collector from anodic dissolution.A higher salt concentration is needed in the electrolyte,in comparison to typical battery electrolytes,to maximize energy density,while ensuring acceptable ionic conductivity and operational *** recent years,studies have demonstrated that highly concentrated organic electrolytes,ionic liquids,gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs),ionogels,and water-in-salt electrolytes can potentially be used in *** can help reduce the use of solvents and thus lead to a substantial change in the Coulombic efficiency,energy density,and long-term cycle life of ***,GPEs are suited to manufacture compact DIB designs without separators by virtue of their mechanical strength and electrical *** this review,we highlight the latest advances in the application of different electrolytes in DIBs,with particular emphasis on GPEs.

Current Status and Evolution of Shared Mental Models Based on Bibliometric Analysis

The cornerstone of most management research revolves around improving productivity and team performance. A crucial factor influencing team performance is the shared mental model that team members hold regarding task and team member related issues. This concept has garnered increasing attention from scholars, resulting in an abundance of literature. However, there remains a noticeable scarcity of a comprehensive literature review that combines both quantitative and qualitative analyses of shared mental model studies. In order to grasp a comprehensive understanding of the current status and future trends in the area, this study employs a bibliometric approach to review the literature on shared mental models published in the Web of Science Core Collection database from 1992 to 2023. Co-citation analysis is employed to thoroughly scrutinize the structure of this research area, computationally highlighting research hotspots, revealing potential future research directions and applications, as well as pinpointing pivotal turning points and landmarks in the field. Through scientific bibliometric analysis of knowledge structures and emerging trends, this review makes a substantial contribution to the contemporary literature on shared mental models, providing valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in the field.

Development of a Proof-of-Concept Multi-Method Computer Simulation to Support Rural Healthcare Disaster Preparedness Planning

Due to a lack of resources, rural communities often face challenges when planning catastrophic events. This project involved applying systems thinking and model-based systems engineering to develop a proof-of-concept, multi-method computer simulation and then determining whether the simulation could be used to assess the efficacy of disaster planning approaches on health outcomes in rural communities, as a function of primary healthcare. The project focus was a rural or non-urban healthcare system experiencing a natural hazard. Both system dynamics and discrete event models were incorporated to represent subsystem operations, crucial disaster responses, as well as three key response systems: public health, emergency management, and healthcare. The subsystem models included several components: policies/procedures, communications,resources, exercises/drills/training, healthcare space and staff, and the flow of affected people into and through the *** combined simulation can serve as a first step to a more comprehensive approach to helping rural communities achieve more efficient and effective healthcare planning for disaster responses.

Plasticity of photorespiratory carbon concentration mechanism in Sedobassia sedoides(Pall.)Freitag&*** under elevated CO_(2)concentration and salinity

Rising atmospheric CO_(2)(carbon dioxide)concentrations and salinization are manifestations of climate change that affect plant growth and *** with an intermediate C_(3)-C_(4)type of photosynthesis live in a wide range of precipitation,temperature,and soil quality,but are more often found in warm and dry *** of the intermediate C_(3)-C_(4)photosynthetic type is C_(2)photosynthesis with a carbon concentration mechanism(CCM)that reassimilates CO_(2)released via ***,the ecological significance under which C_(2)photosynthesis has advantages over C_(3)and C_(4)plants remains largely *** tolerance and functioning of CCM were studied in plants from two populations(P1 and P2)of Sedobassia sedoides(Pall.)Freitag&*** *** with C_(2)photosynthesis exposed to 4 d and 10 d salinity(200 mM NaCl)at ambient(785.7 mg/m^(3),aCO_(2)and elevated(1571.4 mg/m^(3),eCO_(2))CO_(2).On the fourth day of salinity,an increase in Na+content,activity catalase,and superoxide dismutase was observed in both populations.P2 plants showed an increase in proline content and a decrease in photosynthetic enzyme content:rubisco,phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase(PEPC),and glycine decarboxylase(GDC),which indicated a weakening of C_(2)and C_(4)characteristics under *** under 10 d salinity led to an increased Na^(+)content and activity of cyclic electron flow around photosystem I(PSI CEF),a decreased content of K^(+)and GDC in both populations.P1 plants showed greater salt tolerance,which was assessed by the degree of reduction in photosynthetic enzyme content,PSI CEF activity,and changes in relative growth rate(RGR).Differences between populations were evident under the combination of eCO_(2)and *** long-term salinity and eCO_(2),more salt-tolerant P1 plants had a higher dry biomass(DW),which was positively correlated with PSI CEF *** less salt-tolerant P2 plants,DW correlated with transpiration and dark

The Transport and Persistence of Escherichia coli in Leachate from Poultry Litter Amended Soils

Fecal coliform bacteria such as Escherichia coli (E. coli) are one of the main sources of groundwater pollution. An assessment of the transport and Persistence of E. coli in poultry litter amended Decatur silty Clay soil and Hartsells Sandy soil was conducted using soil columns and simulated groundwater leaching. Enumeration of initial E. coli was determined to range from 2.851 × 103 to 3.044 × 103 CFU per gram of soil. These results have been used in a batch study to determine the persistence rate of E. coli in Decatur silty Clay soil and Hartsells Sandy soil. Results prove that E. coli survival growth rate increases for clay soil later than and at a higher rate than sandy soil. The column study has determined that E. coli was transported at a rate of 3.7 × 106 CFU for Decatur silty loam and 6.3 × 106 CFU for Hartsells sandy per gram of soil. Further, linear regression analysis predictions show higher porosity and soil moisture content affect transport, and Hartsells sandy soil has higher transport of E. coli due to its higher porosity and lower volumetric water content.

Emerging regenerative cell therapies for alveolar bone loss have begun to explore the use of cell laden hydrogels for minimally invasive surgery to treat small and spatially complex maxilla-oral ***,the oral cavity presents a unique and challenging environment for in vivo bone tissue engineering,exhibiting both hard and soft periodontal tissue as well as acting as key biocenosis for many distinct microbial communities that interact with both the external environment and internal body systems,which will impact on cell fate and subsequent treatment ***,we design and bioprint a facile 3D in vitro model of a human dentine interface to probe the effect of the dentine surface on human mesenchymal stem cells(hMSCs)encapsulated in a microporous hydrogel *** demonstrate that the dentine substrate induces osteogenic differentiation of encapsulated hMSCs,and that both dentine andβ-tricalcium phosphate substrates stimulate extracellular matrix production and maturation at the gel-media interface,which is distal to the gel-substrate *** findings demonstrate the potential for long-range effects on stem cells by mineralized surfaces during bone tissue engineering and provide a framework for the rapid development of 3D dentine-bone interface models.
