Shape estimation for a TPU-based multi-material 3D printed soft pneumatic actuator using deep learning models

Real-time proprioception presents a significant challenge for soft robots due to their infinite degrees of freedom and intrinsic *** studies mostly focused on specific sensors and *** is still a lack of generalizable technologies for integrating soft sensing elements into soft actuators and mapping sensor signals to proprioception *** tackle this problem,we employed multi-material 3D printing technology to fabricate sensorized soft-bending actuators(SBAs)using plain and conductive thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU)*** designed various geometric shapes for the sensors and investigated their strain-resistive performance during *** address the nonlinear time-variant behavior of the sensors during dynamic modeling,we adopted a data-driven approach using different deep neural networks to learn the relationship between sensor signals and system states.A series of experiments in various actuation scenarios were conducted,and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of this *** sensing and shape prediction steps can run in real-time at a frequency of50 Hz on a consumer-level ***,a method is proposed to enhance the robustness of the learning models using data augmentation to handle unexpected sensor *** the methods are efficient,not only for in-plane 2D shape estimation but also for out-of-plane 3D shape *** aim of this study is to introduce a methodology for the proprioception of soft pneumatic actuators,including manufacturing and sensing modeling,that can be generalized to other soft robots.

Astrocytes,the main population of glial cells in the central nervous system(CNS),exert essential tasks for the control of brain tissue homeostasis,supporting neuron and other glial cell activity from the developmental stage to adult *** maintain the optimal functionality of the brain,astroglial cells are particularly committed to reacting to every change in tissue homeostatic conditions,from mild modifications of the physiological environment,a process called astrocyte activation,to the more severe alterations occurring in pathological situations causing astrocyte reactivity or reactive astrogliosis(Escartin et al.,2021).During these reactive states,astrocytes mount an active,progressive response encompassing morphological,molecular,and interactional remodeling,leading to the acquisition of new functions and the loss of others,whose intensity,duration,and reversibility are dependent on the nature of the stimulus and regulated in a context-specific manner.

Cupressus sempervirens is a relevant species in the Mediterranean for its cultural,economic and landscape *** species is threatened by Seiridium cardinale,the causal agent of the cypress canker disease(CCD).The effects of biotic stressors on O_(3)risk assessment are unknown and a comprehensive O_(3)risk assessment in *** is *** fill these gaps,two clones of ***,one resistant(Clone R)and one susceptible to CCD(Clone S),were subjected to three levels of O_(3)(Ambient Air-AA;1.5×AA;2.0×AA)for two consecutive years in an O_(3)-free-air controlled exposure facility and artificially inoculated with *** the exposure-(AOT40)and flux-based(PODy)indices were *** found that PODy performed better than AOT40 to assess O_(3)effects on biomass and the critical level for a 4%biomass loss was 2.51 mmol/m^(2)***,significant O_(3)dose-response relationships were not found for the inoculated cypresses because the combination of middle level O_(3)(1.5×AA)and inoculation stimulated a biomass growth in Clone S as hormetic ***,we found a different inter-clonal response to both stressors with a statistically significant reduction of total and belowground biomass following O_(3),and lower root biomass in Clone S than in Clone R following pathogen *** summary,Clone R was more resistant to O_(3),and inoculation altered O_(3)risk via an hormetic effect on *** results warrant further studies on how biotic stressors affect O_(3)responses and risk assessment.

Context-dependent role of sirtuin 2 in inflammation

Sirtuin 2 is a member of the sirtuin family nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NAD~+)-dependent deacetylases, known for its regulatory role in different processes, including inflammation. In this context, sirtuin 2 has been involved in the modulation of key inflammatory signaling pathways and transcription factors by deacetylating specific targets, such as nuclear factor κB and nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-leucine-rich-repeat and pyrin domain-containing protein 3(NLRP3). However, whether sirtuin 2-mediated pathways induce a pro-or an anti-inflammatory response remains controversial. Sirtuin 2 has been implicated in promoting inflammation in conditions such as asthma and neurodegenerative diseases, suggesting that its inhibition in these conditions could be a potential therapeutic strategy. Conversely, arthritis and type 2 diabetes mellitus studies suggest that sirtuin 2 is essential at the peripheral level and, thus, its inhibition in these pathologies would not be recommended. Overall, the precise role of sirtuin 2 in inflammation appears to be context-dependent, and further investigation is needed to determine the specific molecular mechanisms and downstream targets through which sirtuin 2 influences inflammatory processes in various tissues and pathological conditions. The present review explores the involvement of sirtuin 2 in the inflammation associated with different pathologies to elucidate whether its pharmacological modulation could serve as an effective strategy for treating this prevalent symptom across various diseases.

Due to the rapid development and potential applications of iron(Ⅲ)-alginate(Fe-Alg)microgels in biomedical as well as environmental engineering,this study explores the preparation and characterization of spherical Fe-Alg microgels using droplet microfluidics combined with an external ionic crosslinking *** study focused on the role of Fe^(3+)and examined its effects on the physical/chemical properties of microgels under different ionic conditions and reduced or oxidized *** pH-dependent release behavior of Fe^(3+)from these microgels demonstrates their potential biomedical and environmental ***,the microgels can exhibit magnetism simply by utilizing in situ oxidation,which can be further used for targeted drug delivery and magnetic separation technologies.

Modeling the potential distribution of Argentine shortfin squid in the southwest Atlantic Ocean

The Argentine shortfin squid Illex argentinus is an economically important short-lived species widely distributed in the southwest Atlantic *** abundance and distribution of *** are associated with climate change and environmental *** potential distribution of *** was modeled with various environmental variables including sea surface temperature(SST),sea surface height(SSH),chlorophyll a,sea surface salinity(SSS),net primary productivity(NPP),mixed layer depth(MLD),eddy kinetic energy(EKE),and photosynthetically active radiation(PAR)using the maximum entropy(MaxEnt)approach during the peak fishing seasons(January–April).The habitat suitability index(HSI)was defined as the probability of species emergence from the MaxEnt model and the area of HSI≥0.6 was regarded as *** indicate that the predicted habitat correlated with the actual fishing position,with similar trends in the percentages of suitable habitats and catch per unit effort(CPUE)of *** from January to ***,SST,SSH,PAR,and MLD were identified critical environmental variables for the distribution of *** addition,the median of preferred ranges of the critical environmental variables were concentrated within the suitable habitats of *** Area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve(AUC)was greater than 0.96 for all four *** in latitudinal and longitudinal gravity centers(LATG and LONG)of fishing effort were consistent with latitudinal and longitudinal gravity centers(LATG_H and LONG_H)of the *** findings suggest that the MaxEnt model is an effective tool to predict the potential distribution of ***,SST,SSH,PAR,and MLD should be given with more extensive attention in predicting the potential distribution of ***,as they are important environmental indicators that can help decision-makers search for the fishing ground of *** in the Southwest Atlantic.

Silk damping in scalar-induced gravitational waves:a novel probe for new physics

Silk damping is well known in the study of cosmic microwave background(CMB)and accounts for suppression of the angular power spectrum of CMB on large angular *** this article,we study the effect of Silk damping on the scalar-induced gravitational waves(SIGWs).Resulting from the dissipation of cosmic fluid,the Silk damping notably suppresses the energy-density spectrum of SIGWs on scales comparable to a diffusion scale at the decoupling time of weakly-interacting *** effect offers a novel observable for probing the underlying particle interaction,especially for those mediated by heavy gauge bosons beyond the standard model of *** anticipate that pulsar timing arrays are sensitive to gauge bosons with mass∼10^(3)-10^(4)GeV,while space-and ground-based interferometers to those with mass∼10^(7)-10^(12)GeV,leading to essential comple-ments to on-going and future experiments of high-energy physics.

Compensation for Heterogeneous Unknowns and Performance-Prescribed Consensus

In this paper, the multi-agent systems(MASs) typically with heterogeneous unknown nonlinearities and nonidentical unknown control coefficients are studied. Although the model information of MASs is coarse, the leader-following consensus is still pursued, with a prescribed performance and zero consensus errors. Leveraging a powerful funnel control strategy, a fully distributed and completely relative-state-dependent protocol is designed. Distinctively, the time-varying function characterizing the performance boundary is introduced, not only to construct the funnel gains but also as an indispensable part of the protocol,enhancing the control ability and enabling the consensus errors to converge to zero(rather than a residual set). Remark that when control directions are unknown, coexisting with inherent system nonlinearities, it is essential to incorporate an additional compensation mechanism while imposing a hierarchical structure of communication topology for the control design and analysis. Simulation examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Palladium installed copper-organic framework for C–C coupling reactions

The formation of C–C bonds is a crucial aspect of organic synthesis. Synthesists' long-term objective is to identify novel catalysts to optimize reaction systems based on traditional transition metal catalysis. This study explores the synthesis and catalytic potential of palladium-installed covalent metal-organic frameworks(CMOFs) based on copper cyclic trinuclear units(Cu-CTUs). By incorporating palladium ions into the imine-based framework JNM-7 through a straightforward immersion method, we achieved a notable enhancement in catalytic activity for critical C–C coupling reactions, including C–H arylation and Sonogashira cross-coupling. The resulting JNM-7-Pd demonstrated remarkable stability and recyclability, maintaining its efficiency over at least three cycles without any decline in efficiency.
