Factor analysis of recent major heatwaves in East Asia

Heatwaves(HWs)present a major hazard to our society and more extreme heatwaves are expected with future climatic ***,it is important to improve our understanding of the underlying processes that drive HWs,in order to boost our socioeconomic-ecological *** this study,we quantified the influences of key driving factors(large-scale atmospheric circulation,soil moisture,and sea surface temperature)and their synergies on recent heatwaves in East *** conducted a factor separation analysis for three recent HW events by constraining the key factors in the regional Weather Research and Forecasting model with their climatologies or pseudo-observations in different *** study showed distinct spatial variations in the HW-controlling factors in East *** synergistic interaction of large-scale circulation and soil moisture was the most important factors in the 2013 Chinese *** the 2018 HWs in Korea and Japan,the same stagnant large-scale atmospheric circulation played a dominant role in driving the HW *** land-atmosphere coupling via soil moisture,its interaction with circulation,and SST exhibited stronger influences during the Korean HW than the Japanese *** analysis also revealed temporal variations in the factors driving Korean and Chinese HWs due to typhoon passage and other multiple processes over heterogeneous surfaces(i.e.,topographically induced Foehn winds,large-scale warm advection from the warm ocean,spatial differences in soil moisture).Our findings suggest that future heatwave-related studies should consider interactive contributions of key factors,their interplay with surface heterogeneities of complex terrain.

Structural coloration techniques have improved display science due to their high durability in terms of resistance to bleaching and abrasion,and low energy ***,we propose and demonstrate an all-solid-state,large-area,lithography-free color filter that can switch structural color based on a doped ***,an indium-gallium-zinc-oxide(IGZO)thin film is used as a passive index-changing *** refractive index of the IGZO layer is tuned by controlling the charge carrier concentration;a hydrogen plasma treatment is used to control the conductivity of the IGZO *** this paper,we verify the color modulation using finite difference time domain simulations and *** IGZO-based color filter technology proposed in this study will pave the way for charge-controlled tunable color filters displaying a wide gamut of colors on demand.

Appendiceal Crohn's disease clinically presenting as acute appendicitis

AIM: To determine the incidence of appendiceal Crohn's disease(CD) and to summarize the characteristic histologic features of appendiceal ***: We reviewed the pathology files of 2179 appendectomy specimens from January 2007 to May2013. The computer-assisted retrieval search facility was utilized to collect specimens. We selected those cases that were diagnosed as CD or chronic granulomatous inflammation and defined the final diagnosis according to the histologic findings of CD, including transmural lymphocytic inflammation, non-caseating epithelioid granulomas, thickening of the appendiceal wall secondary to hypertrophy of muscularis mucosa,mucosal ulceration with crypt abscesses, mucosal fissures, and fistula formation. RESULTS: We found 12 cases(7 male and 5 female patients, with an average age of 29.8 years) of appendiceal CD. The incidence of appendiceal CD was 0.55%.The chief complaints were right lower quadrant pain,abdominal pain, lower abdominal pain, and *** duration of symptom varied from 2 d to 5 *** histologic review revealed appendiceal wall thickening in 11 cases(92%), transmural inflammation in all cases(100%), lymphoid aggregates in all cases(100%), epithelioid granulomas in all cases(100%), mucosal ulceration in 11 cases(92%), crypt abscesses in 5 cases(42%), perforation in 2 cases(17%), muscular hypertrophy in 1 case(8%), neural hyperplasia in 5 cases(42%), and perpendicular serosal fibrosis in 8 cases(67%).CONCLUSION: A typical and protracted clinical course, unusual gross features of the appendix and the characteristic histologic features are a clue in the diagnosis of appendiceal CD.

Arterial blood gas test to decide whether to reconstruct single or both the arteries in living donor liver transplantation

Background:The graft used in living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)sometimes has two hepatic *** study aimed to introduce arterial-blood gas(ABG)test on the decision on whether to reconstruct a single or both arteries in ***:Patients with a right lobe graft with two hepatic arteries were enrolled from the prospectively maintained database of our *** anastomosis of one of two arteries,the back-bleeding from the second hepatic artery was taken for ABG *** on the results,the second artery was anastomosed or ***:Between January 2012 and December 2017,a total of 372 patients underwent LDLT,and 21 living donors had two right hepatic *** on ABG test results,a single anastomosis was created in 15 recipients while double anastomoses were performed in the remaining 6 *** the patients had an uneventful recovery and were discharged in good *** hepatic artery thrombosis nor liver dysfunction was observed during the median follow-up of 26 months(range,6–71 months).The overall incidence of biliary complications was 9.5%(2/21).Bile leakage arose in one patient with two hepatic artery reconstructions,and the patient subsequently developed biliary *** stricture occurred in another patient with one hepatic artery *** biliary complications were successfully managed with endoscopic or percutaneous ***:ABG test provides a good measure for deciding whether to reconstruct single or both arteries in LDLT.

Single-cell RNA sequencing of mitoticarrested prospermatogonia with DAZL::GFP chickens and revealing unique epigenetic reprogramming of chickens

Background:Germ cell mitotic arrest is conserved in many vertebrates,including birds,although the time of entry or exit into quiescence phase *** arrest is essential for the normal differentiation of male germ cells into spermatogonia and accompanies epigenetic reprogramming and meiosis inhibition from embryonic development to ***,mitotic arrest was not well studied in chickens because of the difficulty in obtaining pure germ cells from relevant developmental ***:We performed single-cell RNA sequencing to investigate transcriptional dynamics of male germ cells during mitotic arrest in DAZL::GFP *** differentially expressed gene analysis and K-means clustering to analyze cells at different developmental stages(E12,E16,and hatch),we found that metabolic and signaling pathways were regulated,and that the epigenome was reprogrammed during mitotic *** particular,we found that histone H3K9 and H3K14 acetylation(by HDAC2)and DNA demethylation(by DNMT3B and HELLS)led to a transcriptionally permissive chromatin ***,we found that global DNA demethylation occurred gradually after the onset of mitotic arrest,indicating that the epigenetic-reprogramming schedule of the chicken genome differs from that of the mammalian *** hypomethylation persisted after hatching,and methylation was slowly re-established 3 weeks ***:We found a unique epigenetic-reprogramming schedule of mitotic-arrested chicken prospermatogonia and prolonged hypomethylation after *** will provide a foundation for understanding the process of germ-cell epigenetic regulation in several species for which this process is not clearly *** findings on the biological processes related to sex-specific differentiation of prospermatogonia could help studying germline development in vitro more elaborately.

CFRP （carbon fiber reinforced plastics） composite materials have wide applicability because of their inherent design flexibility and improved material properties. However, impacted composite structures have 50%-75% less strength than undamaged structures. In this work, a CFRP composite material was nondestructively characterized in order to ensure product quality and structural integrity of CFRP and one-sided pitch-catch technique was developed to measure impacted-damaged area by using an automated-data acquisition system in an immersion tank. A pitch-catch signal was found to be more sensitive than normal incidence backwall echo of longitudinal wave under defect conditions in the composite.

Increased incidence of indeterminate pancreatic cysts and changes of management pattern: Evidence from nationwide data

Background:Pancreatic cysts are ***,most studies are based on data collected from individual *** present study aimed to evaluate the changes of management patterns for pancreatic cystic lesions(PCLs)by analyzing large epidemiologic ***:Between January 2007 and December 2018,information regarding pancreatic cystic lesions was acquired from the nationwide Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database in ***:The final number of patients with pancreatic cysts was 165277 among the total claims for reimbursement of 855983 associated with PCLs over 12 *** total number of claims were increased from 19453 in 2007 to 155842 in 2018 and the prevalence increased from 0.04%to 0.23%.For 12 years,2874(1.7%)had pancreatic cancer and 8212(5.0%)underwent surgery,and 36 had surgery for twice(total 8248 pancreatectomy).After ruling out claims from the first 3 years of washout period,the incidence increased from 9891 to 24651 and the crude incidence rate of PCLs expanded from 19.96 per 100000 to 47.77 per *** to specific neoplasm codes(D136 or D377),the use of pancreatic cyst code(K862)has been remarkably increased and the most common since *** annual number of pancreatectomies increased from 518 to 861 between 2007 and 2012,and decreased to 596 until *** percentage of pancreatic cancer in patients who received pancreatectomy increased from 5.6%in 2007 to 11.7%in ***:The incidence of PCLs is rapidly *** PCLs,indeterminate cyst is increasing outstandingly.A trend of decreasing in the number of resections and increasing cancer rates among resected cysts may be attributed to the updated international guidelines.

Optimization of optical wireless power transfer using near-infrared laser diodes

We experimentally demonstrated optical wireless power transfer(OWPT)using a near-infrared laser diode(LD)as the optical power *** considered a photovoltaic(PV)cell and a photodiode(PD)as the optical power *** investigated the characteristics of the LD,PD,and PV cell in order to determine the optimum operating condition from the viewpoint of transfer *** also experimentally demonstrated a whole system optimization process to maximize the DC-to-DC transfer efficiency of the *** experimental results showed that the optimization process can improve the OWPT efficiency by up to 48%.
