In recent years, Brain Computer Interface (BCI) systems based on Steady-State Visual Evoked Potential (SSVEP) have received much attention. This study tries to develop a SSVEP based BCI system that can control a wheelchair prototype in five different positions including stop position. In this study four different flickering frequencies in low frequency region were used to elicit the SSVEPs and were displayed on a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitor using Lab-VIEW. Four stimuli colors, green, red, blue and violet were used to investigate the color influence in SSVEPs. The Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals recorded from the occipital region were segmented into 1 second window and features were extracted by using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). One-Against-All (OAA), a popular strategy for multiclass SVM, is used to classify SSVEP signals. During stimuli color comparison SSVEP with violet color showed higher accuracy than that with green, red and blue stimuli.

Performance evaluation of spectrum sensing in infrastructure based multihop network is very hard to achieve because of the adverse effects of channel fading. In this paper, performance of a multihop link is studied over Nakagami-m distribution. It provides the exact theoretical methodology for the performance analysis of spectrum sensing by evaluating detection probability. Using a cascaded multihop model, the end-to-end Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) is given over Nakagami-m distribution. In the analysis, multihop model based on relays are considered over independent and not identically distributed (i.n.i.d) wireless channels. Simulation results show the effect of increase in number of hops on probability of detection for multihop links. Subsequent to the thorough fading severity analysis, it has been accomplished that spectrum hole detection is more crucial at lower SNR values with large number of hops.

Comparison of SVM and ANN for classification of eye events in EEG

The eye events (eye blink, eyes close and eyes open) are usually considered as biological artifacts in the electroencephalographic (EEG) signal. One can con-trol his or her eye blink by proper training and hence can be used as a control signal in Brain Computer Interface (BCI) applications. Support vector ma-chines (SVM) in recent years proved to be the best classification tool. A comparison of SVM with the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) always provides fruitful results. A one-against-all SVM and a multi-layer ANN is trained to detect the eye events. A com-parison of both is made in this paper.

BACKGROUND The advent of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)unveiled the worst national blood crisis that the United States had witnessed in over a *** the pandemic influencing the different stages of the acquisition of blood products outside the hospital setting,we aimed to explore the possible barriers contributing to the shortage of blood products within the medical *** COVID era and pre-COVID *** We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study on hospitalized patients distinguishing the pattern of blood transfusion during the COVID and pre-COVID era in a community *** was tabulated to include the number of red blood cell(RBC)transfusions and if transfusions met restrictive blood transfusion criteria as per institutional ***-square was applied to test the statistical association between qualitative *** t test and Mann Whitney U test were applied respectively to test the mean difference of quantitative *** A total of 208 patients were included in the study,of which 108 were during COVID era and 100 were during pre-COVID *** leading reason for admission in both the COVID era and pre-COVID era transfused patients was shortness of breath(53.7%and 36%P=0.001),followed by gastrointestinal bleeding(25.9%and 21%P=0.001).There was a higher percentage of RBC transfusions in the intensive care unit in the COVID-era group than in the pre-COVID era group(38.9%vs 22%,P=0.008).The restrictive transfusion criteria were met in 62%vs 79%in the COVID and pre-COVID eras,respectively(P=0.008).CONCLUSION The COVID-era group received RBC transfusions with less stringent adherence to restrictive blood transfusion practices in comparison to pre-COVID era group.
