In this work,a numerical study of the effects of soil-structure interaction(SSI)and granular material-structure interaction(GSI)on the nonlinear response and seismic capacity of flat-bottomed storage silos is conducted.A series of incremental dynamic analyses(IDA)are performed on a case of large reinforced concrete silo using 10 seismic *** IDA results are given by two average IDA capacity curves,which are represented,as well as the seismic capacity of the studied structure,with and without a consideration of the SSI while accounting for the effect of *** curves are used to quantify and evaluate the damage of the studied silo by utilizing two damage indices,one based on dissipated energy and the other on displacement and dissipated *** cumulative energy dissipation curves obtained by the average IDA capacity curves with and without SSI are presented as a function of the base shear,and these curves allow one to obtain the two critical points and the different limit states of the *** is observed that the SSI and GSI significantly influence the seismic response and capacity of the studied structure,particularly at higher levels of ***,the effect of the SSI reduces the damage index of the studied structure by 4%.

The main purpose of this work was to perform a rigorous computational study on scintimammography with a Mura-mask based on Monte Carlo simulation of voxelized breast phantoms. Three main objectives were addressed:(1) verification of Geant4 version 10.4,(2)optimization of the imaging setup, and(3) small tumor detection and localization. We successfully verified the Geant4-based imaging of a commonly used phantom in the field. We used a Mura-mask with a 41× 41 array pattern with adjustable thickness, material, and hole shape(box and cylinder);a low-energy high-resolution collimator with different hole shapes(cylinder and hexagon);and a voxelized breast phantom with different sizes(small, medium,and large) and glandularity percentages(low, medium, and high). We also compared the detector crystal outputs of CdZnTe and NaI(Tl). The simulation was followed by a deconvolution procedure, and the data(images) were statistically emphasized. Statistical metrics indicate that the Mura-mask(W material with 1.5 mm thickness and box holes) combined with a CdZnTe detector leads to the optimum point spread function. Finally, a preliminary study on small-sized tumor detection and localization was conducted with different tumor-to-background ratios(from2 to 12). Tumors with diameters of 5 and 8 mm could be detected, while those of 2 mm were undetectable. Nevertheless, this study enhances our understanding of the early detection of tumors in the field of scintimammography.

Photon energy absorption and exposure buildup factors for deep penetration in human tissues

Using photons in therapeutic and diagnostic medicine requires accurate computation of their attenuation coefficients in human *** buildup factor,a multiplicative coefficient quantifying the ratio of scattered to primary photons,measures the degree of violation of the Beer-Lambert *** this study,the gamma-ray isotropic point source buildup factors,specifically,the energy absorption buildup factor(EABF)and exposure buildup factor,are *** computational methods used include the geometric progression fitting method and simulation using the Geant4(version 10.4)Monte Carlo simulation *** buildup factors of 30 human tissues were evaluated in an energy range of 0.015-15 MeV for penetration depths up to 100 mean free paths(mfp).At all penetration depths,it was observed that the EABF seems to be independent of the mfp at a photon energy of 1.5 MeV and also independent of the equivalent atomic number(Zeq)in the photon energy range of 1.5-15 ***,the buildup factors were inversely proportional to Zeq for energies below 1.5 ***,the Geant4 simulations of the EABF of water were in agreement with the available standard data.(The deviations were less than 5%.)The buildup factors evaluated in the present study could be useful for controlling human exposure to radiation.

Background:Generally,advanced wound care resources are applied for complex wounds that pose a challenge to the medical and nursing *** this report,the use of leukocyte-and platelet-rich fibrin(L-PRF)is emphasized for complex wounds as an alternative,simple,inexpensive,time-saving process that does not require hospitalization and has a healing potential over that of bare soft tissue,including bone,tendon,and *** aim of this study is to extend the use of L-PRF in small-to-moderate-sized complex wounds of lower extremities in which L-PRF maintains the sensitive structures ***:Between January 2016 and December 2017,17 small-to-moderate-sized complex wounds of lower extremities treated with L-PRF were recruited from the plastic and reconstructive surgery clinic in Aydin State Hospital,*** treatment was administered twice per week in the outpatient *** on the size and extension of the complex wound,two to five blood samples were collected into 8.5 ml dry,glass vacuum tubes with no anticoagulant,and samples were immediately centrifuged at 1630×g for 5 min to obtain *** healing was defined as the day of complete wound ***:The median values of the initial wound size and wound duration were 12 cm^(2)(interquartile range,6 to 23 cm^(2))and 8 months before first admission(interquartile range,4 to 18 months),*** wounds showed significant improvements after L-PRF therapy and full closure after a median of 18months,with an interquartile range of 11 to 34 months of L-PRF *** were recurrences of wounds during the first 6 months after *** adverse events were ***:Our results add to the growing evidence that L-PRF treatments protect and maintain bare soft tissue structures viable,facilitate the formation of granulation tissue and epithelization,and remarkably reduce the need for additional soft tissue surgeries in small-to-medium-sized complex wounds.

The ultimate need to account for the partial amount of energy deposited in target tissue/organ resulting from internal inhalation,ingestion,and injection intakes of radionuclides,defined by the Medical Internal Radiation Dosimetry committee as the specific absorbed fraction(SAF),has become *** this study,we assessed the SAF values for self-and cross-absorption,which were calculated for a uniform distribution of monoenergetic photon and electron emitters with energies ranging from 15 keV to 3 *** voxelized human phantom‘‘High-Definition Reference Korean-man’’(HDRK-man),which was implemented using the Monte Carlo simulation code GEANT4(version 10.1),was used for several combinations of target–source *** results were compared to those of the International Commission on Radiological Protection Reference(ICRP133)and Zubal *** was found that the SAF values of the three models have a similar ***,the SAF values for the HDRK-man phantom were higher than those of the other two models,with a relatively good agreement with those for the ICRP133 phantom(differences of 13.9±2.8 and 12.1±3.2 for photon and electron emitters,respectively).To analyze the differences in SAF values,we calculated the chord length distributions(CLDs)for selected target–source *** parameters of organ mass(or volume)and CLDs,in addition to the adopted computational procedures,mainly cause such *** realistic radionuclide emission spectra,an overall overestimation was observed when computing the S values for three radiopharmaceuticals studied(I-131,In-111,and Lu-177)and for liver–spleen intra-and inter-organ absorption when compared with published *** new arrangement of S and SAF values is expected to add value for multidisciplinary research and clinical communities.

This paper examines the visualization of symbolic data and considers the challenges rising from its complex *** data is usually aggregated from large data sets and used to hide entry specific details and to transform huge amounts of data(like big data)into analyzable *** is also used to offer an overview in places where general trends are more important than individual *** data comes in many forms like intervals,histograms,categories and modal multi-valued *** data can also be considered as a ***,the de facto visualization approach for symbolic data is zoomstars which has many *** biggest limitation is that the default distributions(histograms)are not supported in 2D as additional dimension is *** paper proposes several new improvements for zoomstars which would enable it to visualize histograms in 2D by using a quantile or an equivalent interval *** addition,several improvements for categorical and modal variables are proposed for a clearer indication of presented *** for different approaches to zoomstars are offered depending on the data type and the desired ***,an alternative approach that allows visualizing the whole data set in comprehensive table-like graph,called shape encoding,is *** visualizations and their usefulness are verified with three symbolic data sets in exploratory data mining phase to identify trends,similar objects and important features,detecting outliers and discrepancies in the data.

The purpose of this paper is to propose a friendly computational framework able to investigate particles tracking through different compartments of the human being using dedicated numerical *** main building blocks of this framework are:(i) convenient X-ray spectra calculator for different filter/anode combination,(ii) realistic voxelized computational human phantom,(iii)validated Geant4-based Monte Carlo simulation,and(iv)extendable and free image processing *** studied the multimodality SPECT/CT cardiac imaging using specific spectrum of the ^(99m)Tc and 120 kVp X-ray beam,for internal and external exposure,*** application of the framework to quantify the loss of information between combined and simultaneous coregistration was carried *** main objectives were addressed:(i) an ideal geometry was simulated for educational purposes(ii) a realistic case study was carried out,for research purposes,concerning the modeling of the GE Infinia II 3/800 Gamma *** compared the effect of using a Na I(Tl) and CZT crystal detector,and a LEHR and MEGP collimator with different uptake values of the heart organ(1:1,5:1 and 50:1) for both simultaneous andcombined SPECT/CT *** confirmed the usefulness of the Na I(Tl) crystal with the LEHR collimator for such kind of study.
