Clinical Predictors for Diagnosing Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and Seasonal Influenza (H3N2) in Fever Clinics in Beijing,China

Objective Symptomatic predictors of influenza could assess risks and improve decisions about isolation and outpatient treatment. To develop such predictors, we undertook a prospective analysis of pandemic （HIN1） 2009 and seasonal influenza （H3N2） in patients attending fever clinics. Methods From 1 May 2009 to 1 January 2010, all adult patients admitted to fever clinics for suspected influenza, confirmed by real time RT-PCR, were enrolled. Predictors of influenza virus infection were selected with logistic regression models. Measures of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios （LRs） were calculated to identify the best predictors. Results The clinical features and routine blood test results of influenza （H1N1） 2009 and seasonal influenza were similar. The positive and negative LRs of current US CDC influenza-like illness （ILl） criteria were modest in predicting influenza infection. Our modified clinic predictors improved the ability of the positive and negative LRs to recognize pandemic （HIN1） 2009 and seasonal influenza. The revised criteria are： fever ~ 38 ~C accompanied by at least one of the following--cough, arthralgia or relative iymphopenia. Conclusion Patients with symptoms and signs that meet the new criteria are likely to have influenza and timely antiviral therapy may be appropriate. In addition, physicians should ascertain if influenza is circulating within the community or if there is a contact history of influenza and combine this information with the newly developed criteria to clinically diagnose influenza.

Gallium nitride crystals in nano-scale have been fabricated by dc arc plasma method using gallium and N_(2)+NH_(3) as starting *** electron microscope,selected area diffraction and x-ray diffraction investigation of the as-grown GaN crystals show that the well faceted crystals are single crystalline GaN in wurtzite structure having lattice constants a_(0)=3.18Åand c_(0)=5.18Å.

Growth Response to Ionic and Osmotic Stress of NaCl in Salt-tolerant and Salt-sensitive Maize

Salt-tolerant maize （STM） and salt-sensitive maize （SSM） were treated with 100 mM NaCI for 1, 3 and 6 d and the contents of Na＋ and Cl- （cps） of different organelles of leaf cells determined by X-ray microanalysis. The results showed that Na＋ and Cl- entered the cytoplasm, vacuole, chloroplast and apoplast simultaneously. When STM and SSM were treated in 100 mM NaCI at atmospheric pressure （-P） and with pressure equivalent to the osmotic pressure of the NaCI （＋P）, the dry weights of STM （＋P） and SSM （＋P） plants were greater than that of STM （-P） and SSM （-P） plants, showing that the inhibitory effect of salt on plant growth was at least partially due to the osmotic effect of the NaCI. When STM and SSM were treated with NaCI and iso-osmotic polyethlene glycol, the dry weights of plants given the iso-osmotic polyethlene glycol treatment were lower for both maize lines than that of the NaCl-treated plants. Our data show that under NaCl stress, both STM and SSM seedlings simultaneously suffered from osmotic and ion stresses.

Platinum-based anticancer agents are widely used as first-line drugs in cancer chemotherapy for various solid tumors. However, great side effects and occurrence of resistance remain as the major drawbacks for almost all the platinum drugs developed. To conquer these problems, new strategies should be adopted for platinum drug based chemotherapy. Modern nanotechnology has been widely employed in the delivery of various therapeutics and diagnostic. It provides the possibility of targeted delivery of a certain anticancer drug to the tumor site, which could minimize toxicity and optimize the drug efficacy. Here, in this review, we focused on the recent progress in polymer based drug delivery systems for platinum-based combination therapy.

Apparent Molar Volumes and Solvation Coefficients in Ternary-pseudo-binary Mixtures [(Styrene+Ethyl Acetate or Benzene)+(N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone+Ethyl Acetate or Benzene)]

Over the full range of compositions, in the ternary-pseudo-binary mixtures of x[（1-y）C6H5CH=CH2＋ yCH3COOC2H5（or C6H6）]＋（1-x）[（1-y）NMP＋yCH3COOC2Hs（or C6H6）], the apparent molar volumes of each pseudo-pure component at different y values were calculated from the density data at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The results show that the four parameters cubic polynomial can correlate the apparent molar volume with the molar fraction well over the full molar fraction range. The limiting partial molar volumes and the molar volumes of each pseudo-pure component were evaluated with different methods. Based on the limiting partial molar volume and molar volume at a certain y value, a new universal coefficient termed as solvation coefficient γ was defined to describe quantitatively the solvation degree of pseudo-pure solute and the interactions of solute-solvent molecules from the macroscopical thermodynamics viewpoint. The results demonstrate the solvation coefficients decrease with the amount of the third component increasing for each pseudo-pure solute, irrespective of the pseudo-pure solvent. Then the solvation degrees of each pseudo-pure component, the specific interactions between the solute molecule and the solvent one were discussed in terms of the solvation coefficient.

Effect of bevacizumab on the expression of fibrosis-related inflammatory mediators in ARPE-19 cells

AIM：To investigate the effect of anti-vascular epithelial growth factor（VEGF）agents on the expression of fibrosisrelated inflammatory mediators under normoxic and hypoxic conditions,and to further clarify the mechanism underlying fibrosis after anti-VEGF therapy. METHODS：Human retinal pigment epithelial（RPE）cells were incubated under normoxic and hypoxic *** hypoxia treatment,CoCl_2 at 200μmol/L was added to the media. ARPE-19 cells were treated as following：1）control group：no treatment; 2）bevacizumab group：bevacizumab at 0.25 mg/mL was added to the media; 3）hypoxia group：CoCl_2 at 200 μmol/L was added to the media; 4）hypoxia＋bevacizumab group：CoCl_2 at 200 μmol/L and bevacizumab at 0.25 mg/mL were added to the *** expression of interleukin（IL）-1β,IL-6,IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor（TNF）-α were evaluated using real-time polymerase chain reaction（RT-PCR）and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay（ELISA）at 6,12,24 and 48 h. RESULTS：Both m RNA and protein levels of IL-1β,IL-6 and IL-8 were statistically significantly higher in the bevacizumab group than in the control group at each time point,and TNF-α gene and protein expression was only significantly higher only at 24 and 48h（P〈0.05）. Under hypoxic conditions,bevacizumab significantly increased the expression of IL-1β,IL-6,IL-8 and TNF-α at 6,12,24 and 48h（P〈0.05）. IL-1β,IL-8 and TNF-α peaked at 24 h and IL-6 peaked at 12 h after the bevacizumab treatment under both normoxic and hypoxic conditions. CONCLUSION：Treatment of ARPE-19 cells with bevacizumab can significantly increase the expression of fibrosis-related inflammatory mediators under bothnormoxic and hypoxic conditions. Inflammatory factors might be involved in the process of fibrosis after antiVEGF therapy,and the up-regulation of inflammatory factors induced by anti-VEGF drugs might promote the fibrosis process.

Influence of desulfurization slag containing oxides of vanadium and titanium on semi-steel pre-desulfurization

The desulfurization and resulfurization of slag containing oxides of vanadium and titanium(CaO–SiO_(2)–MgO–Al_(2)O_(3)–V_(2)O_(3)–TiO_(2)–FeO)in the pretreatment of semi-steel desulfurization at 1623 K were *** on the ionic structure theory of slag,it could be concluded that V_(2)O_(3) and TiO_(2) combined with(O_(2)–)to form complex anions including VO_(3)^(3–),TiO_(4)^(4–),etc.,which reduced the activity of(O_(2)–)and decreased the sulfur partition ratio(LS).And FeO enhanced the activity of[O]at the slag–metal interface,which decreased the desulfurization capacity of the *** to the binary basicity,the presented basicity expression containing V_(2)O_(3) and TiO_(2) described the relationship between LS and basicity more *** the problems of dilute slag,a large amount of residual slag and much resulfurization in the slagging-off process after pretreatment,the effect of CaO+C-based slag modifier on the resulfurization,melting point and viscosity of the desulfurization slag was *** was proposed that adding 5%–10%of the slag modifier to the desulfurization slag after desulfurization decreased the resulfurization *** the added modifier adjusted the slag viscosity well,which helped to reduce iron loss and residual slag.

Electronic and optical properties of single-layer MoS2

The electronic structures of a MoS2 monolayer are investigated with the all-electron first principle calculations based on the density functional theory （DFT） and the spin-orbital couplings （SOCs）. Ore＂ results show that the monolayer MoS2 is a direct band gap semiconductor with a band gap of 1.8 eV. The SOCs and d-electrons in Mo play a very significant role in deciding its electronic and optical properties. Moreover, electronic elementary excitations are studied theoretically within the diagram- matic self-consistent field theory. Under random phase approximation, it shows that two branches of plasmon modes can be achieved via the conduction-band transitions due to the SOCs, which are different from the plasmons in a two-dimensional electron gas and graphene owing to the quasi-linear energy dispersion in single-layer MoS2. Moreover, the strong optical absorption up to 105 cm-1 and two optical absorption edges I and II can be observed. This study is relevant to the applications of monolayer MoS2 as an advanced photoelectronic device.

Metamaterial based on local resonance has excellent vibration attenuation ability in low *** this research,an attempt was performed to make meta-mortar with spring-mass resonators to attenuate vibration and shock ***-spring-mass resonators and dual-spring-mass resonators were designed and made using lead or aluminum blocks and SWPB springs encased by PMMA(polymethyl methacrylate)or aluminum *** resonators were placed into mortar blocks to make metamortar *** attenuation effect was investigated by sweeping vibration with frequency from 50 Hz to 2000 *** these meta-mortar blocks exhibit excellent vibration attenuation ability in the designed band *** dual-spring-mass resonators,meta-mortar blocks have two distinct vibration attenuation bands.

A Short-wave UV Nonlinear Optical Sulfate of High Thermal Stability

Compared with borates, carbonates, nitrates and phosphates, sulfates have been ignored as nonlinear optical(NLO) materials for a long time. Recently, researchers started to realize sulfates which have the potential as NLO materials, and synthesized some sulfate NLO materials by the water solution method and solvothermal method. However, all these sulfate NLO materials have the same problem of low thermal stability. Here, we synthesized a new Cs4 Mg6(SO4)8, which crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P212121 with a = 9.102, b = 9.955, c = 16.127 ?, V = 1461.3 ?3, Z = 2, F(000) = 1352, μ = 5.777 mm-1, R = 0.0213 and wR = 0.0480. The single crystal structure can be described as a three-dimensional framework constructed by MgO6 octahedra and SO4 tetrahedra. Relevant optical measurements indicate that Cs4 Mg6(SO4)8 is short-wave ultraviolet transparent and has a moderate second harmonic generation response. Theoretical calculations by the CASTEP package reveal that S–O groups are NLO-active anionic groups. Significantly, Cs4 Mg6(SO4)8 has high thermal stability up to 781 ℃ based on thermal analyses. We believe that our work will provide a new strategy for researchers to develop new sulfate short-wave ultraviolet NLO materials of high thermal stability.
