BACkGROUND Infection of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)stent is a rare and serious complication that most commonly occurs during TIPS creation and *** typically present with recurrent bacteremia due to shunt occlusion or *** date there are approximately 58 cases *** present a patient diagnosed with late polymicrobial TIPS infection five years following TIPS *** SUMMARY A 63-year-old female status-post liver transplant with recurrent cirrhosis and portal hypertension presented with sepsis and recurrent extended-spectrum betalactamase Escherichia coli *** tomography of the abdomen revealed an occluded TIPS with thrombus extension into the distal right portal vein,and focal thickening of the cecum and ascending *** revealed patchy ulcers in these areas with histopathology demonstrating ulcerated colonic mucosa with fibrinopurulent *** thrombectomy and revision revealed infected-appearing *** initially cleared her infection with antibacterial therapy and TIPS revision;however,soon after,she developed Enterobacter cloacae bacteremia and Candida glabrata and *** fungemia with recurrent TIPS *** remained on antifungal therapy indefinitely and later developed vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium with recurrent TIPS *** option of liver re-transplant for removal of the infected TIPS was not offered given her critical illness and complex shunt *** patient became intolerant to linezolid and elected hospice *** Clinicians should be aware that TIPS superinfection may occur as long as five years following TIPS creation in an immunocompromised patient.

This paper presents a theoretical and experimental study on controller design for the AMBs in a small-scale flywheel energy storage system,where the main goals are to achieve low energy consumption and improved rotordynamic stability.A H-infinity optimal control synthesis procedure is defined for the permanent-magnet-biased AMB-rotor system with 4 degrees of *** the choice of design weighting functions,notch filter characteristics are incorporated within the controller to reduce AMB current components caused by rotor vibration at the synchronous frequency and higher *** tests are used to validate the controller design methodology and provide comparative results on performance and *** results show that the H-infinity controller is able to achieve stable rotor levitation and reduce AMB power consumption by more than 40%(from 4.80 to 2.64 Watts)compared with the conventional PD control ***,the H-infinity controller can prevent vibrational instability of the rotor nutation mode,which is prone to occur when operating with high rotational speeds.

Wormlions are small fly larvae that dig pits in loose soil to trap their prey. Similar to other trapbuilding predators, like spiders and antlions, they depend on the habitat structure for successful trap construction and prey catch. We examined whether sites at which wormlions are present differ in sand depth and particle size from nearby sites, at which wormlions are absent. Next, in the laboratory we manipulated both sand depth and type (fine vs. coarse) to determine their joint effect on microhabitat pref ere nee, the size of the con structed pit, wormlion movement, and their latency to respond to prey. We expected better performance by wormlions in fine and deep sand, and the sand in wormlions' natural sites to be finer and deeper. However, in only partial agreement with our expectations, wormlion sites featured finer sand but not deeper sand. In the laboratory, wormlions preferred both fine and deep sand, and moved more in shallow and coarse sand, which we interpret as an attempt to relocate away from unfavorable conditions. However, only deep sand led to larger pits being constructed and to a faster response to prey. The preference for fine sand could, therefore, be related to other ben efits that sand provides. Fin ally, body mass was a domi nant factor, interacting with the preference for both deep and fine sand: deep over shallow sand was more favored by large wormlions and fine over coarse sand by smaller ones. Our results suggest that several factors should be incorporated when studying microhabitat selection.
