An analytical solution to wellbore stability using Mogi-Coulomb failure criterion

Deep wellbores/boreholes are generally drilled into rocks for oil and gas exploration,monitoring of tectonic stresses *** and tunnel in depth are generally in true triaxial stress state,even if the ground is under axisymmetric loading *** of such wellbores is very critical and collapse of wellbore must be ***-Coulomb failure criterion is a better representation of rock strength under true triaxial *** this paper,an analytical solution is proposed using Mogi-Coulomb failure *** solution is obtained for rock mass exhibiting elastic-perfectly plastic or elastic-brittle-plastic behaviour considering in-plane isotropic *** proposed solution is then compared with exact analytical solution for incompressible material and experimental results of thickwall *** is shown that the results obtained by the proposed analytical solution are in good agreement with the experimental results and exact analytical solution.A reduction of about 13%e20%in plastic zone from the proposed closed-form solution is observed,as compared to the results from the finite element method(FEM)based Mohr-Coulomb ***,the influences of various parameters such as Poisson’s ratio,internal pressure(mud weight),dilation angle,and out-of-plane stress are studied in terms of stress and deformation responses of *** results of the parametric study reveal that variation in the out-of-plane stress has an inverse relation with the radius of plastic ***’s ratio does not have an appreciable influence on the tangential stress,radial stress and radial *** angle has a direct relation with the *** pressure is found to have an inverse relation with the radial deformation and the radius of plastic zone.

Effect of rock joint roughness on its cyclic shear behavior

Rock joints are often subjected to dynamic loads induced by earthquake and blasting during mining and rock cutting. Hence, cyclic shear load can be induced along the joints and it is important to evaluate the shear behavior of rock joint under this condition. In the present study, synthetic rock joints were prepared with plaster of Paris(Po P). Regular joints were simulated by keeping regular asperity with asperity angles of 15°-15° and 30°-30°, and irregular rock joints which are closer to natural joints were replicated by keeping the asperity angles of 15°-30° and 15°-45°. The sample size and amplitude of roughness were kept the same for both regular and irregular joints which were 298 mm×298 mm×125 mm and 5 mm, respectively. Shear test was performed on these joints using a large-scale direct shear testing machine by keeping the frequency and amplitude of shear load under constant cyclic condition with different normal stress values. As expected, the shear strength of rock joints increased with the increases in the asperity angle and normal load during the first cycle of shearing or static load. With the increase of the number of shear cycles, the shear strength decreased for all the asperity angles but the rate of reduction was more in case of high asperity angles. Test results indicated that shear strength of irregular joints was higher than that of regular joints at different cycles of shearing at low normal stress. Shearing and degradation of joint asperities on regular joints were the same between loading and unloading, but different for irregular joints. Shear strength and joint degradation were more significant on the slope of asperity with higher angles on the irregular joint until two angles of asperities became equal during the cycle of shearing and it started behaving like regular joints for subsequent cycles.

Thermal,corrosion and wear analysis of copper based metal matrix composites reinforced with alumina and graphite

The wear and corrosion resistances are important in marine applications, especially when it comes to structural support components like bearings, bushes and blocks. The copper hybrid metal matrix components are the new avenues explored in this front. A novel combination of alumina and graphite were considered as the reinforcements in a copper base for the development of a metal matrix *** metallurgical techniques were used for the development of the MMC. The Vickers' s hardness value of 64.9 Hv has been observed by increasing the volume of alumina. Thermogravimetric analyses were carried out on material samples to estimate the exact sintering temperature and identified that 450-700℃ would be conducive. The TGA curves shows two step decomposition exists between 430 ℃-460 ℃. FT-IR analysis was done to confirm the peak values of the materials. FTIR exposed the peak value of 1600 cm^(-1) for alumina where as for Copper and graphite peak values have been 2840 cm^(-1) and 17260 cm^(-1) respectively. The potentio dynamic analysis was done to estimate the rate of corrosion on the samples. The sample with nano and micro reinforcements offered intensive resistance to corrosion. The presence of graphite minimized the weight loss of the samples during the corrosion test. Finally the wear rates of the samples were estimated using the Pin On Disc experimental setup. The samples with nano material reinforcement and with a maximum proportion of graphite exhibited a better wear rate of 1.52×10^(-12) m^2/kg under maximum load conditions.

Parametric optimization of friction stir welding process of age hardenable aluminum alloys-ANFIS modeling

A comparative approach was performed between the response surface method(RSM) and the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS) to enhance the tensile properties, including the ultimate tensile strength and the tensile elongation, of friction stir welded age hardenable AA6061 and AA2024 aluminum alloys. The effects of the welding parameters, namely the tool rotational speed, welding speed, axial load and pin profile, on the ultimate tensile strength and the tensile elongation were analyzed using a three-level, four-factor Box-Behnken experimental design. The developed design was utilized to train the ANFIS models. The predictive capabilities of RSM and ANFIS were compared based on the root mean square error, the mean absolute error, and the correlation coefficient based on the obtained data set. The results demonstrate that the developed ANFIS models are more effective than the RSM model.

Evaluation of genetic potential of the polyvoltine silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) germplasm and identification of parents for breeding programme

In the present study, polyvoltine germplasm stock ofAndhra Pradesh State Sericulture Research and Development, Institute （APSSRDI） was evaluated for its performance based on quantitative and qualitative traits. Twenty-one oval and 10 peanut cocoon shaped lines were reared in different seasons of the year. Since the polyvoltines are non-diapausing, six generations were reared and evaluated for various economically important traits based on evaluation index and sub-ordinate function statistical methods. Ten top ranked lines obtained by using both the methods were identified as potential parental strains. Among oval lines, APMI4, APMI 1, APMIS, APMW9, and APMI9, and among peanut lines APMD5, APMDI, APMD3, APMD9 and APMD8 were selected as base material. The identified high yielding lines will be used in various breeding programmes as initial parents for the synthesis of superior polyvoltine breeds/hybrids.

Simultaneous determination of pioglitazone and candesartan in human plasma by LC-MS/MS and its application to a human pharmacokinetic study

A simple and rapid liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric(LC-MS/MS) assay method has been developed and fully validated for simultaneous quantification of pioglitazone and candesartan in human *** was used as an internal *** analytes were extracted from human plasma samples by solid-phase extraction technique using a Strata-X 33 mm polymeric *** reconstituted samples were chromatographed on a C18 column by using a 80:20(v/v) mixture of acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.8 mL/*** calibration curves obtained were linear(rZ0.99) over the concentration range of 15-3000 ng/mL for pioglitazone and 5-608 ng/mL for *** results of the intra-and inter-day precision and accuracy studies were well within the acceptable limits.A run time of 2.7 min for each sample made it possible to analyze more than 300 plasma samples per *** proposed method was found to be applicable to clinical studies.

The purpose of the current investigations is to solve the nonlinear dynamics based on the nervous stomach model(NSM)using the supervised neural networks(SNNs)along with the novel features of Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation technique(LMBT),i.e.,*** SNNs-LMBT is implemented with three different types of sample data,authentication,testing and *** ratios for these statistics to solve three different variants of the nonlinear dynamics of the NSM are designated 75%for training,15%for validation and 10%for testing,*** the numerical measures of the nonlinear dynamics of the NSM,the Runge-kutta scheme is implemented to form the reference *** attained numerical form of the nonlinear dynamics of the NSM through the SNNs-LMBT is implemented in the reduction of the mean square error(MSE).For the exactness,competence,reliability and efficiency of the proposed SNNs-LMBT,the numerical actions are capable using the proportional arrangements through the features of the MSE results,error histograms(EHs),regression and correlation.

A variety of new materials in the field of concrete technology have been developed during the past three decades with the ongoing demand of construction industry to meet the functional, strength, economical and durability requirements. Though reinforced concrete has high strength and is most widely used construction material it suffers from disadvantages like corrosion of steel, susceptibility to chemical and environmental attack. In order to overcome the above deficiencies of reinforced concrete new materials （special concrete composites） have been developed over the past three decades. Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer （GFRP） is one such material with wide range of applications. Based on the preliminary investigations on GFRP bars, an optimum fiber/resin ratio of 7：3 was arrived. The tensile strength of GFRP bars is comparable to that of the mild steel as per the tests carried out, but the modulus of elasticity is about 25-30 percentage of that of steel bars. This paper deals with the experimental investigations carried out on small slab panels supported on all four edges with effective spans of 0.9 m ~ 0.45 m, which is a part of large research problem undertaken with different ratios of 10ng span to short span with different support conditions. The test results are compared with similar slab panels reinforced with conventional mild steel bars.

A rapid and sensitive LC-MS/MS method for the simultaneous quantitation of lamivudine,zidovudine and nevirapine in human plasma using abacavir as internal standard has been developed and *** analytes and IS were extracted from plasma by solid phase extraction using Oasis HLB cartridges and separated on a Hypurity Advance C18 column using a mixture of acetonitrile:0.1% formic acid(76:24,v/v)at a flow rate of 0.8 mL/*** involved an API-4000 LC MS/MS with electrospray ionization in the positive ion mode and multiple-reaction monitoring for *** method was validated according to FDA guidelines and shown to provide intra-and inter-day precision and accuracy within acceptable limits in a run time of only 3.5 *** method was sucessfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study involving a single oral administration of a combination tablet to human male volunteers.
