Progeny evaluation of Jatropha curcas and Pongamia pinnata with comparison to bioproductivity and biodiesel parameters

Progeny studies of Jatropha curcas and Pongamia pinnata were carried with respect to bioproductivity,pod and seed characters which is one of the selection methods in tree improvement programmes. Variations in bioproductivity and biodiesel parameters of both the plants were compared every 6 months for 4 years of investigation and analyzed by analysis of variance and correlation coefficient by Pearson＇s method using software Graphpad instat 3.06（for Windows and Mac）. P. pinnata has better germination rate（71.4 %）, 100 pod weight（PW）（311.59 g） and 100 seed weight（sW）（173.46 g） as compared to J. curcas for germination rate（43.2 %）, 100 PW（111.29 g） and 100 sW（67.46 g）. P. pinnata has strong correlation for plant height to canopy growth（CG）（0.948）, collar diameter（CD）（0.994）, number of branches per plant（NBP）（0.995） and to number of leaves per branch（NLB）（0.862） as compared to *** which showed good correlation among plant height to CG（0.976）, CD（0.970）, NBP（0.988）, NLB（0.920） and to number of pods per branch（0.657）. However, J. curcas depicted negative correlation for pod breadth to seed length（sL）（-0.447）, seed breadth（-0.248） and to seed thickness（sT）（-0.364） and among the 100 PW to sL（-0.199）, sT（-0.220） and to 100 sW（-0.704）. About 4 kg of P. pinnata seeds were required for each liter of crude oil which yields896 ml of biodiesel on transesterification as compared to5.66 kg of J. curcas seeds for a liter of crude oil, producing about 663 ml of biodiesel. The quality of biodiesel meets the major specification of American society for Testing and Materials（AsTM） standards for biodiesel. The crude glycerin and seed cake obtained as byproduct during biodiesel production were also measured which can be purified and used in composting, animal feeds, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic industries.

Pure ZnO thick film, prepared by screen-printing technique, was almost insensitive to NH3. Pure ZnO thick films were surface modified with MnO2 by dipping them into 0.01 M aqueous solution of manganese chloride (MnCl2) for different intervals of time and fired at 500℃ for 12 h. The grains of MnO2 would disperse around the grains of ZnO base material. The MnO2 modified ZnO films dipped for 30 min were observed to be sensitive and highly selective to NH3 gas at room temperature. An exceptional sensitivity was found to low concentration (50 ppm) of NH3 gas at room temperature and no cross sensitivity was observed even to high concentrations of other hazardous and polluting gases. The effects of surface microstructure and MnO2 concentrations on the sensitivity, selectivity, response and recovery of the sensor in the presence of NH3and other gases were studied and discussed. The better performance could be attributed to an optimum number of surface misfits in terms of MnO2 on the ZnO films.

We report the magnetoelectric (ME) coupling in ME composites composed of NiFesub>2sub>Osub>4sub> (NFO) or metglas as magnetostrictive phases and BaTiOsub>3sub> (BTO) as piezoelectric phase, targeting lead free magetnic field sensors. NFO and BTO phases were synthesized by solid state sintering method and further characterized by using XRD and FEsEM techniques. The P-E hysteresis curve shows good ferroelectric behavior with saturation polarization of Psub>ssub> = 15.87 C/cmsup>2sup> and coercive electric field of 130 kV/cm. The ME response was characterized as a function of dc magnetic field at a fixed frequency. The transverse ME voltage coefficient, αME31 shows 2 times larger magnitude than that of longitudinal ME voltage coefficient, αsub>ME31sub>. The maximum αsub>ME31sub> of 37 mV/cm•Oe (@Hsub>dcsub> = 250 Oe) is observed for NFO/BTO/NFO ME composites with thickness ratio of tsub>msub>/tsub>psub> = 1.0. The ME coupling is further enhanced by replacing NFO layers by highly magnetostrictive metglas layers. Metglas/BTO/metglas laminates show large αsub>ME31sub> value of 81 mV/cm•Oe at relatively lower Hsub>dcsub> of 145 Oe. The present laminates can offer promising opportunities of engineering environmental friendly ME laminate for applications in ME devices such as energy harvester and magnetic field sensors.

Genetic Diversity and Population structure in Landraces and Improved Rice Varieties from India

A set of 50 rice genotypes comprising landraces, local selections, and improved varieties were characterized using simple sequence repeat（ssR） and inter simple sequence repeat（IssR） markers to study genetic diversity and population structure. Following unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean based clustering using binary data of polymorphic markers, the genotypes were grouped into 5 clusters and 11 sub-clusters, whereas population structure analysis separated 50 rice genotypes into 5 sub-populations. Grouping of rice genotypes showed better resemblance with the pedigree information of the genotypes. Both genetic diversity and population structure analysis separated majority of the improved varieties from landraces and local selections. some of the ssR markers amplified unique alleles which were specific to a particular genotype and could distinguish them from the rest. The results indicate that these rice genotypes exhibit a higher genetic diversity and can be very useful in rice improvement program.

In the past few decades,climatic changes led by environmental pollution,the emittance of greenhouse gases,and the emergence of brown energy utilization have led to global *** warming increases the Earth’s temperature,thereby causing severe effects on human and environmental conditions and threatening the livelihoods of millions of *** warming issues are the increase in global temperatures that lead to heat strokes and high-temperature-related diseases during the summer,causing the untimely death of thousands of *** forecast weather conditions,researchers have utilized machine learning algorithms,such as autoregressive integrated moving average,ensemble learning,and long short-term memory *** techniques have been widely used for the prediction of *** this paper,we present a swarm-based approach called Cauchy particle swarm optimization(CPsO)to find the hyperparameters of the long shortterm memory(LsTM)*** hyperparameters were determined by minimizing the LsTM validationmean square error *** optimized hyperparameters of the LsTM were used to forecast the temperature of Chennai *** proposed CPsO-LsTM model was tested on the openly available 25-year Chennai temperature *** experimental evaluation on MATLABR2020a analyzed the root mean square error rate and mean absolute error to evaluate the forecasted *** proposed CPsO-LsTM outperforms the traditional LsTM algorithm by reducing its computational time to 25 min under 200 epochs and 150 hidden neurons during *** proposed hyperparameter-based LsTM can predict the temperature accurately by having a root mean square error(RMsE)value of 0.250 compared with the traditional LsTM of 0.35 RMsE.

We performed time resolved spectroscopy of 1H0707-495 and IRAs 13224-3809 using long XMM-Newton observations. These are strongly variable narrow line seyfert 1 galaxies and show broad features around 1 keV that have been interpreted as relativistically broad Fe Lc~ lines. such features are not clearly observed in other active galactic nuclei despite sometimes having high iron abundance required by the best fitted blurred reflection models. Given the importance of these lines, we explore whether the rapid variability of spectral parameters may introduce broad bumps/dips artificially in the time averaged spectrum, which may then be mistaken as broadened lines. We tested this hypothesis by performing time resolved spectroscopy using long （〉 100 ks） XMM-Newton observations and by dividing them into segments with typical exposures of a few ks. We extracted spectra from each such segment and modeled them using a two component phenomenological model consisting of a power law to represent the hard component and a black body to represent the soft emission. As expected, both the sources showed variations in the spectral parameters. Using these variation trends, we simulated model spectra for each segment and then co-added to get a combined simulated spectrum. In the simulated spectra, we found no broad features below 1 keV and in particular no deviation near 0.9 keV as seen in the real averaged spectra. This implies that the broad Fe Lα line that is seen in the spectra of these sources is not an artifact of the variation of spectral components and, hence, provides evidence that the line is indeed genuine.
