Passive air sampling of organochlorine pesticides in a northeastern state of India,Manipur

Thirty-six polyurethane foam disk passive air samplers （PUF-PAS） were deployed over a year during January to December, 2009 at three locations, i.e., Imphal （urban site）, Thoubal （rural site） and Waithou （alpine site） of Manipur, to assess the seasonal local atmospheric emission of selected organochlorine pesticides （OCPs）. The average concentration of HCHs monitored at mountain site during hot season （Mar, Apr, and May） and rainy seasons （Jun, Jul, Aug, and Sep） were 403 and 349 pg/m3, respectively. DDTs had a high concentration with 384 pg/m3 at rural site and 379 pg/m3 at urban site during hot seasons. Endosulfans and chlordane were found high in concentration during hot seasons （260 pg/m3） and low during retreating monsoon seasons （44 pg/m3） at rural site. Most of the OCPs concentrations were high during cultivation period. The OCP concentrations of rainy season were highly correlated （p 〈 0.01） with OCPs of hot seasons. Further, positive correlation （p 〈 0.05） was also obtained between cold seasons and retreating monsoon. Principal component analysis showed a significant correlation among the four seasons and distribution pattern of OCPs in air. Back trajectory analysis by using HYPSLIT model showed a long range air transport of OCPs to the present study area. Present OCP levels at Manipur is an outcome of both local emission and also movement of air mass by long range atmospheric transport.

Novel synthesis and characterization of CuO nanomaterials:Biological applications

CuO nanoparticles were synthesized at a relatively low temperature（80 ℃） for 2 h using polyethylene glycol-glycerol mixture which acts as a capping agent.A detailed characterization of the synthesized nanomaterials were performed utilizing X-ray diffraction（XRD）,infra-red spectroscopy（IR）,thermogravimetric analysis（TGA-DTA）,transmission electron microscopy（TEM）,photoluminescence（PL） by studying its crystalline phase,vibrational mode,thermal analysis,morphology and photoluminescence *** effect of annealing on the as-prepared nanoparticles were studied and compared with their corresponding bulk *** synthesized nanoparticles have been screened for in vitro cytotoxicity（1C_（50）） studies against the human cervical adenocarcinoma cell line（HeLa） using WITT assay *** as-prepared nanoparticle inhibits the proliferation of this HeLa *** standard disc diffusion method has been used to study the antibacterial activity of the samples against the human pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli（MTCC 729）,Proteus mirabilis（MTCC 425） and klebsiella pneumoniae ***（MTCC 432）.The results have been compared with the positive control antibiotic *** synthesized nanoparticles would provide a potential alternative to antibiotics for controlling some of the microorganisms causing urolithiasis.

A Novel Fuzzy Inference System-Based Endmember Extraction in Hyperspectral Images

Spectral unmixing helps to identify different components present in the spectral mixtures which occur in the uppermost layer of the area owing to the low spatial resolution of hyperspectral *** spectral unmixing methods are globally based and do not consider the spectral variability among its endmembers that occur due to illumination,atmospheric,and environmental ***,endmember bundle extraction plays a major role in overcoming the above-mentioned limitations leading to more accurate abundance ***,a two-stage approach is proposed to extract endmembers through endmember bundles in hyperspectral *** divide and conquer method is applied as the first step in subset images with only the non-redundant bands to extract endmembers using the Vertex Component Analysis(VCA)and N-FINDR algorithms.A fuzzy rule-based inference system utilizing spectral matching parameters is proposed in the second step to categorize *** endmember with the minimum error is chosen as the final endmember in each specific *** proposed method is simple and automatically considers endmember variability in hyperspectral *** efficiency of the proposed method is evaluated using two real hyperspectral *** average spectral angle and abundance angle are used to analyze the performance measures.

The high-performance computing paradigm needs high-speed switching fabrics to meet the heavy traffic generated by their *** switching fabrics are efficiently driven by the deployed scheduling *** this paper,we proposed two scheduling algorithms for input queued switches whose operations are based on ranking *** first,we proposed a Simple 2-Bit(S2B)scheme which uses binary ranking procedure and queue size for scheduling the ***,the Virtual Output Queue(VOQ)set with maximum number of empty queues receives higher rank than other VOQ’*** simulation,we showed S2B has better throughput performance than Highest Ranking First(HRF)arbitration under uniform,and non-uniform traffic *** further improve the throughput-delay performance,an Enhanced 2-Bit(E2B)approach is *** approach adopts an integer representation for rank,which is the number of empty queues in a VOQ *** simulation result shows E2B outperforms S2B and HRF scheduling algorithms with maximum throughput-delay ***,the algorithms are simulated under hotspot traffic and E2B proves to be more efficient.

Effects of geraniin(rambutan rind extract) on blood pressure and metabolic parameters in rats fed high-fat diet

Objective: A preliminary study showed that geraniin extracted from Nephelium lappaceum L. at 50 mg/kg caused reduction in blood glucose and insulin resistance. The present study serves to further investigate the effects of geraniin at increasing doses between 3.125 and 100 mg/kg in high-fat diet-treated ***: Geraniin(95% purity) was extracted and purified from rambutan rind. Two groups of male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed with 60% high-fat diet and standard rat chow, respectively, for 12 ***-fat diet-treated rats were then administered geraniin at different doses. Body weight, blood pressure and blood glucose readings were measured. At the end of treatment, blood was collected for analysis of glycated haemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), insulin, advanced glycation end-product(AGE) levels, renin, aldosterone and ***: Within the first week of treatment, even the lowest dose of geraniin caused a significant reduction in blood pressure, which was comparable to control diet-treated rats. There were no changes in serum electrolytes, renin or aldosterone. Similarly, there was a significant reduction in serum insulin,insulin resistance and AGE levels at the lowest dose. However, there was no significant decrease in fasting blood glucose or HbA1c. The effects of decreasing insulin, insulin resistance and AGEs were observed only at the lower doses, unlike the results observed for blood pressure ***: Geraniin at lower doses improved blood pressure and other metabolic parameters. Secondary metabolites of geraniin, associated with antihypertensive activity, are relatively different to those involved in inhibiting AGE formation and increasing insulin sensitivity. The secondary metabolites of geraniin may be individually responsible for the bioactivities demonstrated.

A Review on Efficient Routing Mechanisms in Urban Scenario of Vehicular Ad⁃Hoc Networks

Efficient routing protocols are crucial for enabling secure communication among the highly mobile and self-configurable nodes in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks(VANETs). In this work, we present a performance evaluation of different routing protocols in VANETs based on the currently available research. Our study focuses on analyzing the strength and weaknesses of the routing protocols, namely, Ad-Hoc On-demand Distance Vector(AODV), Dynamic Source Routing(DSR), and Destination-Sequenced Distance-Vector(DSDV), under varying network conditions. We examine the protocols’ performance based on key metrics such as throughput, delay, and energy consumption. We also highlight the advantages and limitations of each protocol in different scenarios, such as varying vehicular densities and mobility patterns. Our results show that AODV outperforms DSR and DSDV in terms of throughput and delay, while DSR consumes the least energy. We also observe that the performance of the routing protocols varies with the density of vehicles and the mobility patterns of the nodes. Our study highlights the importance of conducting real-world experiments to evaluate the performance of routing protocols in VANETs, as they provide more realistic and accurate results than simulation-based studies. Our findings can help in the selection and design of efficient and secure routing protocols for VANETs.

Recent snow cover variation in the Upper Indus Basin of Gilgit Baltistan, Hindukush karakoram Himalaya

Mountainous basins like the Upper Indus Basin(UIB) of Gilgit Baltistan(GB) are dependent on seasonal snowmelt and glacier melt. Monitoring of the snow-covered area(SCA) is not only vital for the overall hydrology of the Indus basin but also important to the sustainable agriculture and hydropower system. The snow-covered area in the UIB of GB was investigated for changes over the last 18 years using the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) snow product. The study area was divided into five elevation zones ranging from 877-8564 meters above sea level(m ASL). In contrast to the global cryosphere related studies, SCA in the UIB is slightly increasing. Elevation based SCA analysis also indicated that SCA is slightly increasing in each elevation zone. However, a significant amount of snow is concentrated in areas above 5000 m ASL. Due to the strong correlation between SCA and precipitation, the precipitation data also follow a similar trend. Analysis of the climatic data suggests a statistically significant increase in total monthly precipitation and relative humidity, a slight decrease in mean monthly temperature and a significant upward tendency in monthly solar irradiance data. All these trends in combination with the increasing trend in global precipitation, winter westerly disturbances and orographic precipitation are the important factors behind the slightly increasing SCA in the study area. Our results though constrained by short observation period mainly contribute to the understanding of advancing snow cover and glaciers in Hindukush karakoram.

Media optimization for extracellular amylase production by Pseudomonas balearica vitps19 using response surface methodology

BACkGROUND： In this study, we optimized the process for enhancing amylase production from Pseudomonas balearica VITPS 19 isolated from agricultural lands in kolathur, India. METHODS： Process optimization for enhancing amylase production from the isolate was carried out by Response Surface Methodology （RSM） with optimized chemical and physical sources using Design expert v.7.0. A central composite design was used to evaluate the interaction between parameters. Interaction between four factors - maltose （C-source）, malt extract （N- source）, pH, and CaCl2 was studied. RESULTS： The factors pH and CaCl2 concentration were found to affect amylase production. Validation of the experiment showed a nearly twofold increase in alpha amylase production. CONCLUSION： Amylase production was thus optimized and increased yield was achieved.
