Delayed liver laceration following transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is a serious and likely underdiagnosed complication. It is however an important complication following TIPS, which remains one of the most technically challenging interventional procedures performed. In addition to laceration, a number of complications regarding bleeding and perforation are well described following TIPS procedures. We feel the adoption of techniques such as ours and that of other authors described in the literature using an ultrasoundguided percutaneous transhepatic approach with a small caliber needle provides a safer and less traumatic procedure and should reduce complications of bleeding and almost completely eliminate the risk of liver laceration. Our procedure was successfully performed under conscious sedation rather than general anaesthesia further reducing the overall procedural risk to the patient.

Type 2 diabetes is in epidemic proportion in Papua New Guinea. Although many people are at high-risk of developing diabetes, there is no diabetes prevention policy and services in Papua New Guinea to address this problem. A literature search was carried out to assess the available evidence in the primary prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus among the population with pre-diabetes. The result shows that the primary preventative studies conducted on lifestyle modification and the use of metformin in prediabetes patients reduced overt type 2 diabetes mellitus. The application of the evidence in the prevention of the type 2 diabetes epidemic in Papua New Guinea, driven by a policy is feasible to address the diabetes epidemic.

Background:Dyop®is a dynamic optotype with a rotating and segmented visual *** can be used for visual acuity and refractive error *** objective of the study was to compare refractive error measurement using the Dyop®acuity and LogMAR E ***:Fifty subjects aged 18 or above with aided visual acuity better than 6/12 were *** error was measured by subjective refraction methods using the Dyop®acuity chart and LogMAR E charts and the duration of measurement ***’s notation was used to represent the refractive error obtained for ***:There was no significant difference in terms of spherical equivalent(M)(P=0.96)or J0(P=0.78)and J45(P=0.51)components measured using the Dyop®acuity and LogMAR E ***,subjective refraction measurement was significantly faster using the Dyop®acuity chart(t=4.46,P<0.05),with an average measurement time of 419.90±91.17 versus 452.04±74.71 seconds using the LogMAR E ***:Accuracy of refractive error measurement using a Dyop®chart was comparable with use of a LogMAR E *** dynamic optotype Dyop®could be considered as an alternative fixation target to be used in subjective refraction.

In the present study,the electrophoretic deposition method was successfully applied as a binder-free and scalable approach to deposit carbonaceous nanomaterials on carbon fiber paper(CFP)for cathode applications in Li-S *** microstructural studies of the EPD-CNT film using scanning electron microscopy(SEM)revealed the formation of a crack-free and porous layer of CNTs being uniformly distributed on the CFP *** EPD:CFP/CNT/S cathode delivered a capacity around 2.2 times higher than that obtained in the absence of the EPD-CNT film(CFP/S cell)after 50 cycles and a capacity of935 mAh g^-1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 *** EPD method was then employed to fabricate layer-by-layer structures where the EPD-CNT film was decorated with carbon black *** initial capacity as well as the reversible capacity after 100 cycles was further increased by the EPD:CFP/CNT/kB/S layer-by-layer structure to 1473 and 1033 mAh g^-1,respectively,indicating effective suppression of the shuttle *** addition,the rate performance of CFP/S was improved by depositing the EPD-CNT and EPD-CNT/carbon black architectures on CFP surface,and even further enhanced through the co-deposition of CNT and Pt nanoparticles by EPD,delivering a specific capacity of around 730 mAh g^-1 at 1 ***,the cathodes fabricated by EPD were observed to outperform those made by the conventional casting method in terms of cycling performance,internal resistance,and *** difference was ascribed to the non-uniform microstructure of the Cast-CNT film,which resulted in poor interfacial connection between the CNT agglomerates,hindering uniform sulfide/sulfur deposition during *** obtained results suggested that the binder-free C/S nanocomposite cathode made by EPD is key to further enhance the specific capacity and energy density of Li-S batteries.

This paper examines the role of innovation in firm performance by drawing empirical evidence from the capital market. The current study analyzes risk premiums and risk-adjusted excess returns of a portfolio of the most innovative firms in the US from 2006 to 2010. The results show that average risk premiums of an equal-weighted portfolio of the most innovative finns in the US are economically larger than the CRSP2 value-weighted index risk premiums four years in a row from 2006 to 2009 and are economically greater than the standard and poor （S＆P） 500 index risk premiums from 2006 to 2010. The portfolio exhibits average statistically significant and positive risk-adjusted excess returns for the 3-year and 5-year holding period intervals. The findings serve as evidence of the favorable role of innovation in firm performance.

In this work,the microstructure of titania coating fabricated on the surface of hydrostatically extruded titanium grade 4 with the use of the micro-arc oxidation method was *** surface topography and microstructure investigations performed with atomic force microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy revealed that,by using an Na_(2)HPO_(4)electrolyte,a well-adherent porous coating is produced on the top surface and side walls of the extruded *** distribution of chemical elements was analyzed by using energy dispersive X-ray *** chemical elements dissolved in the electrolyte(Na,P and O)incorporated into the *** locates preferentially in the outer part of the coating,while phosphorus and oxygen are distributed throughout the whole *** most relevant finding shows that a grain refinement caused by a hydrostatic extrusion provoked an increase in density of high-angle grain boundaries(HAGB),which in turn secured the formation of a continuous amorphous layer close to the *** presence of this layer compensates for the effect of anisotropic substrate,producing a comparable and homogenous microstructure with a large number of micropores.

Mining of plant-derived antimicrobials is the major focus at current to counter antibiotic resistance. This study was conducted to characterize the antimicrobial activity and mode of action of linalyl anthranilate(LNA) against carbapenemase-producing klebsiella pneumoniae(kPC-kP). LNA alone exhibited bactericidal activity at 2.5%(V/V), and in combination with meropenem(MPM) at 1.25%(V/V). Comparative proteomic analysis showed a significant reduction in the number of cytoplasmic and membrane proteins,indicating membrane damage in LNA-treated kPC-kP cells. Up-regulation of oxidative stress regulator proteins and down-regulation of oxidative stress-sensitive proteins indicated oxidative stress. Zeta potential measurement and outer membrane permeability assay revealed that LNA increases both bacterial surface charge and membrane permeability. Ethidium bromide influx/efflux assay showed increased uptake of ethidium bromide in LNA-treated cells, inferring membrane damage. Furthermore, intracellular leakage of nucleic acid and proteins was detected upon LNA treatment. Scanning and transmission electron microscopies again revealed the breakage of bacterial membrane and loss of intracellular materials. LNA was found to induce oxidative stress by generating reactive oxygen species(ROS) that initiate lipid peroxidation and damage the bacterial membrane. In conclusion, LNA generates ROS, initiates lipid peroxidation, and damages the bacterial membrane, resulting in intracellular leakage and eventually killing the kPC-kP cells.
