Elevated fibroblast growth factor 23(FGF23)in X-linked hypophosphatemia(XLH)results in rickets and phosphate wasting,manifesting by severe bone and dental ***,a FGF23-neutralizing antibody,an alternative to conventional treatment(phosphorus and active vitamin D analogs),showed significant improvement in the long bone ***,we examined whether FGF23 antibody(FGF23-mAb)also improved the dentoalveolar features associated with ***-week-old male Hyp mice were injected weekly with 4 or 16 mg·kg−1 of FGF23-mAb for 2 months and compared to wild-type(WT)and vehicle(PBS)treated Hyp mice(n=3–7 mice).Micro-CT analyses showed that both doses of FGF23-mAb restored dentin/cementum volume and corrected the enlarged pulp volume in Hyp mice,the higher concentration resulting in a rescue similar to WT ***23-mAb treatment also improved alveolar bone volume fraction and mineral density compared to vehicle-treated *** revealed improved mineralization of the dentoalveolar tissues,with a decreased amount of osteoid,predentin and *** periodontal ligament attachment was also observed,evidenced by restoration of the acellular *** preclinical data were consistent with the retrospective analysis of two patients with XLH showing that burosumab treatment improved oral *** together,our data show that the dentoalveolar tissues are greatly improved by FGF23-mAb treatment,heralding its benefit in clinics for dental abnormalities.

AIM: To evaluate interferon-λ3(IFNL3) polymorphisms in response-guided pegylated interferon-α plus ribavirin(Peg-IFNα/RBV) therapy for genotype 2(G2) chronic hepatitis ***: Between January 2006 and June 2012, a total of 180 patients with chronic infections of G2 hepatitis C virus(HCV) were treated with responseguided Peg-IFNα/RBV therapy. The treatment duration was 24 wk for patients who achieved rapid virologic response(RVR), and 36 or 48 wk for patients who did not. Then, the impact of the IFNL3 single nucleotide polymorphism genotype(TT/non-TT at rs8099917) on treatment outcomes was evaluated in the 180 patients, and between patients infected with either HCV subgenotype 2a or ***: Of the 180 patients evaluated, 111 achieved RVR, while the remaining 69 patients did not. In RVR patients, the sustained virologic response(SVR) rate was 96.4%, and the IFNL3 genotype did not influence the SVR rate(96.6% vs 95.8% in IFNL3 genotype TT vs non-TT). However, in non-RVR patients, the SVR rate decreased to 72.5%(P < 0.0001), and this rate was significantly different between the IFNL3 genotype TT and non-TT groups(80.0% vs 42.9%, P = 0.0146). Multivariate regression analysis in non-RVR patients identified the IFNL3 genotype TT as the only baseline-significant factor associated with SVR(OR = 5.39, 95%CI: 1.29-22.62; P = 0.0189). In analysis according to HCV sub-genotype, no significant difference in the SVR rate was found between HCV sub-genotypes 2a and ***: In response-guided Peg-IFNα/RBV combination therapy for chronically HCV G2-infected patients, the impact of the IFNL3 genotype on SVR was limited to non-RVR patients.

Effects of Sublevel Open Stope Underground Mining on Surface and Open Pit Slopes

Underground mining is an economically viable option for exploiting ore reserves deemed uneconomic after open pit mining. However, underground development can have adverse effects on the above existing open pit slope walls. As a goal of this paper, identification and assessment of potential slope instabilities prior to underground development is crucial for safe and sustainable mining. Towards goal achieving, this paper gives a comprehensive parametric study to investigate the influence of sublevel open stope (SLOS) underground mining on the surface and open pit slope walls. By means of numerical simulation, the SLOS design is tried against the existing open pit followed by adjustments of important slope parameters which are overall slope height (OSH) and overall slope angle (OSA). We found that underground mining may induce slope failure, particularly on the hangingwall side of the pit. Subsidence is prominent on the hanging wall and the surface, whereas, the uplift dominates the footwall and pit bottom. Pit wall closure is observed during underground mining. Although the assigned dimensions in the parametric study show a negligible effect of OSH and OSA, the high OSH experience low subsidence in comparison with low OSH. Overall, the results demonstrate that the slope walls on the hanging wall side are mostly affected by the underground mining and high-stress concentration prevails near slope toes and pit bottom. Additionally, slope deformation decrease from pit bottom towards the slope crest and surface. The results of this study add knowledge to open pit and underground mining interaction.

Fiber-fluorescence in situ hybridization analyses as a diagnostic application for orientation of microduplications

Microduplications are normally invisible under microscopy and were not recognized before chromosomal microarray testing was available. Although it is difficult to confirm the orientation of duplicated segments by standard fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH), our data indicates that fiber-FISH analysis has the potential to reveal the orientation of duplicated and triplicated segments of chromosomes. Recurrent microduplications reciprocal to microdeletions show tandem orientations of the duplicated segments, which is consistent with a non-allelic homologous recombination mechanism. Several random duplications showed tandem configurations and inverted duplications are rare. Further analysis is required to fully elucidate the basic mechanisms underlying such duplications/triplications.

With so many potentially interconnected electronic devices in today’s homes, manufacturers have to think of theirs as only one of the components involved in a general user experience, and not as an isolated device. Users are likely to be using several devices at the same time, either actively through immediate interaction, or passively by expecting devices to give them notifications when necessary, for example. Thus, having cross-devices functionalities is often necessary for a product to be really adapted to its usage situation. Moreover, just as we install software on computers, smartphones and tablets for additional functionalities to use their own hardware, it would be logical to install cross-devices software to use the combined hardware of several home devices for a better user experience. However, even though a number of technologies can be used to transmit data or commands between devices, UPnP being a widespread example, it is not possible to access the behavior of remote devices and add functionalities to them this way. Thus, when manufacturers design their products, there is no way for them to make full use of the other appliances at the user’s home without developing and deploying specific software on each of them. In order to address this issue, this paper discusses a platform for generic development and on-the-fly deployment of applications on home devices. This system aims at letting device vendors deploy innovative features across devices in a home network, without requiring prior knowledge or control over devices already present in the user’s environment. For this platform to be fit for consumer devices, it is designed to be cost-effective, use recent and widespread technologies, and be fast to implement and work with.

Demonstration of Magnetic Energy Harvesting from Electrical Appliances

The purpose of this study is to use magnetic field of 50/60 Hz up to 0.2 mT for energy source. This paper focuses on magnetic energy harvesting from electrical appliances which can be also used for power consumption monitoring. The magnetic energy harvesting device consists of an energy harvesting module, Cockcroft-Walton circuit and storage capacitor. First of all, typical magnetic fields around several electrical appliances are investigated. In order to harvest 10 mJ energy, the shape of magnetic flux concentration flange in energy harvesting module and number of steps in Cockcroft-Walton circuit are considered. From experimental results, magnetic energy harvesting of 17 mJ from a refrigerator is successfully demonstrated.

Outcomes of reduction hepatectomy combined with postoperative multidisciplinary therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma

BACkGROUND The prognosis of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)that is not indicated for curative hepatectomy remains poor,despite advances in the treatment of HCC,including the development of tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TkIs).The outcomes of reduction hepatectomy and multidisciplinary postoperative treatment for advanced HCC that is not indicated for curative hepatectomy,including those of recently treated cases,should be *** To examine the outcomes of combination treatment with reduction hepatectomy and multidisciplinary postoperative treatment for advanced HCC that is not indicated for curative *** Thirty cases of advanced HCC that were not indicated for curative hepatectomy,in which reduction hepatectomy was performed between 2000 and 2018 at the Department of Gastroenterological Surgery I,Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine,were divided into postoperative complete remission(POCR)(+)and POCR(-)groups,depending on whether POCR of all evaluable lesions was achieved through postoperative *** cases in the POCR(-)group were subdivided into POCR(-)TkI(+)and POCR(-)TkI(-)groups,depending on whether TkIs were administered *** The 5-year overall survival rate and mean survival time(MST)after reduction hepatectomy were 15.7%and 28.40 mo,respectively,for all cases;37.5%and 56.55 mo,respectively,in the POCR(+)group;and 6.3%and 14.84 mo,respectively,in the POCR(-)group(P=0.0041).Tumor size,major vascular invasion,and the number of tumors in the remnant liver after the reduction hepatectomy were also found to be related to survival *** number of tumors in the remnant liver was the only factor that differed significantly between the POCR(+)and POCR(-)groups,and POCR was achieved significantly more frequently when≤3 tumors remained in the remnant liver(P=0.0025).The MST was 33.52 mo in the POCR(-)TkI(+)group,which was superior to the MST of 10.74 mo seen in the POCR(-)TkI(-)group(P=0.0473).CONCLUS

For the purpose of the replacement of Magnetic Fluid (MF) which is effective in the production of an artificial soft and tactile skin for the robot, etc. by utilizing a rubber solidification method with electrolytic polymerization, we proposed a novel magnetic responsive intelligent fluid, Hybrid Fluid (HF). HF is structured with water, kerosene, silicon oil having Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) as well as magnetic particles and surfactant. The state of HF changes as jelly or fluid by their rates of the constituents and motion style. In the present paper, we presented the characteristics of HF: the viscosity and the magnetization are respectively equivalent to those of other magnetic responsive fluids, MF and their solvents. For the structure, HF is soluble simultaneously with both diene and non-diene rubbers. The diene rubber such as Natural Rubber (NR) or Chloroprene (CR) has a role in the feasibility of electrolytic polymerization and the non-diene rubber such as silicon oil rubber (Q) has a role in defense against deterioration. Therefore, the electrolytically polymerized HF rubber by mixing NR, CR as well as Q is effective for the artificial soft and tactile skin. It is responsive to pressure and has optimal property on piezoelectricity in the case of the mixture of Ni particles as filler. HF is effective in the production of the artificial soft and tactile skin made of rubber.

Lactic acid bacteria have not only been used to produce various kinds of fermented food, but also used as probiotic products. As lactic acid bacterial group was consisted from diverse genera, a simple inspection method by which numbers and contained microorganisms could be automatically analyzed without any preliminary information was required to use them more effectively. In this manuscript, lactic acid bacterial groups in commercial products of kimuchi, komekouji-miso, and yoghurt were identified and enumerated by our newly developed method [1]-[3], to evaluate whether the method could be used as an inspection method of various food samples. In kimuchi, numerically dominant bacteria were Lactobacillus sakei, and L. casei (1.4 × 104 MPN g-1) and Leuconostoc spp. (l.4 × 104 MPN). In kouji-miso, numerically dominant bacteria was Bacillus spp. (3 × 103 MPN), which mainly included B. subtilis group and B. cereus group. Lactic acid bacteria such as Lactobacillus spp., or Lactococcus spp., included in the komekouji-miso, could be enumerated after 3 days incubation (1.24 × 104 MPN), but not detected after 7 days incubation. In yoghurt A and C, Lactococcus lactis was detected as numerically dominant lactic acid bacteria (3.0 × 105 MPN). In yoghurt B, Lactobacillus spp., or Lactococcus spp., was detected not only by a culturebased method but also by an unculture-based method, although there was a difference between the both estimated numbers. The present results suggested that the method might become useful as a simple inspection method of food microorganisms, because time and labor of the analysis could be reduced by using an unculture-based method and MCE-202 MultiNA. In this study, Bifidobacteriium spp. was not detected in B and C yoghurt, in spite of indicating their existence, and numbers of lactic acid bacteria were lower than the level of the daily product regulation, because 16S rDNA of Bifidobacteriium spp. might not be amplified by the used PCR conditio
