Background :Non-Hodgkin lymphomas are the first childhood cancer in sub-Saharan Africa. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess non-Hodgkin lymphomas cases in our setting. Methodology: A retrospective and descriptive study carried out in the pediatric oncology unit of the Gabriel Touré Teaching Hospital Bamako over 10 years from 1st January 2005 to 31th December 2015. Results: We exploited 274 (21.6%) cases of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma out of 1295 cancer cases registered, the age group 6 - 10 years was the most represented (46.4%);the male sex was predominant with a sex-ratio of 1.8;digestive signs were the most common signs of discovery (44.2%) followed by maxillary swelling (42.7%);the majority of patients (52.9%) consulted between 1 and 3 months after the onset of signs;the malnutrition rate was 39.8%, of which 24.1% were severe cases and 15.7% were moderate rate. Abdominal localization was the most common (43.1%) followed by maxillofacial localization (33.9%). Almost all were Burkitt type cytology (92.7%), the majority (73.4%) were in Murphy stage III. Almost all (96%) had received chemotherapy and the modified LMB 01 protocol was widely used (62.4%). The majority of patients (85%) were chemosensitive at day 7 or after the third cyclophosphamide injection but at the end of induction only 31% were in complete remission. Gastrointestinal toxicity was the most common (37.13%) followed by hematologic toxicity 35.09 %;9.12 % of patients were lost of follow-up and 22.26% died. Tumor progression was the most common cause of death (60.66%) followed by infection (21.31%). Conclusion: In light of these findings, the late diagnosis and the poor management of NHL, as well as the limited ability to primarily treat metabolic complications, explain the high case-fatality rate, hence the important role of early diagnosis and treatment multidisciplinary.

Introduction: Neonatal asphyxia (NA) is one of the most likely causes of neuro-developmental abnormalities in children. In Mali it is responsible for half of the early deaths and the third of neonatal mortality. Updated data would help understand and improve intervention strategies to reduce mortality. Objective: It is the study of epidemiological and clinical characteristics, the immediate outcome and the factors associated with newborn (NB) mortality with NA. Material and Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study from June 27th to September 3rd 2016 about the NBs admitted for NA in the Hospital Teaching Gabriel Touré of Bamako. The clinical and biological data including the prognosis were collected from the health records of women, the liaison sheets and the medical file. The analysis was done using the software Epi info version 3.5.1. Results: 76 NBs were included which represented 23.45% of hospitalizations. The majority (89.5%, n = 68) were admitted to less than 24 hours of life for NA grade III according to the Sarnat classification (43.4%, n = 33). The average age of mothers was 24.17 ± 5.5 years. Almost half (41.3%, n = 31) were primigravida. The most common obstetrical event was dystocia (64.5%, n = 49). The prognosis was poor in grade III anoxia in our patients (56%) of deaths. Conclusion: The périnatal anoxia (PA) is a major health issue in Mali because of its frequency and severity. Monitoring of pregnancies, delivery assisted by skillful and qualified personnel, mastery of neonatal resuscitation techniques are good means of prevention.

Recently,many cultural aspects of some African countries have been in danger of being lost due to cultural disruptions,nonadaptive construction techniques and a lack of adequate conservation systems and *** include the well-known manuscripts of Timbuktu(Tombouctou)as well as architecture,languages,beads,textiles,costumes and other cultural *** heritage,such as oral history,traditional music,instruments and dance,is also *** the northwestern part of Africa,the so-called Sahel-Sahara region,earthen architecture has played an important role in cultural identity and has been a key means of community *** architectural heritage includes a wide variety of creations ranging from simple houses,granaries,and palaces to religious buildings,urban centres,cultural landscapes and archaeological *** studying northwestern African cultural heritage and cultural exchanges during trans-Saharan trade,we can beneft from traditional knowledge and use these teachings to build a sustainable knowledge system for earthen architecture *** work is urgent since these structures are in danger of being lost,destroyed,badly conserved,or not *** aim of this research is to point out,through an anthropological approach,the importance of local community involvement in the conservation *** research is based on a comparative study of diferent earthen architecture conservation spaces within the abovementioned region that have been important and were infuenced by cultural exchanges during trans-Saharan *** these historical towns,some architectural heritage sites have been abandoned and are in ruins,while others have been preserved solely as tourist *** this paper,I introduce the case of Djennéto share our research *** paper provides insight into earthen architecture conservation issues and how local communities have used tangible and intangible methods to preserve cultural heritage.

Background: Motor competence and health-related fitness are important components for the development and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle in children. This study examined cross-cultural performances on motor competence and health-related fitness between Portuguese and ***: Portuguese(n = 508; 10.14 § 2.13 years, mean § SD) and U.S.(n = 710; 9.48 § 1.62 years) children performed tests of cardiorespiratory fitness(Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run), upper body strength(handgrip), locomotor skill performance(standing long jump), and object projection skill performance(throwing and kicking). Portuguese and U.S. children were divided into 2 age groups(6à9 and 10à13 years) for data analysis purposes. A twoàfactor oneàway analysis of covariance(ANOVA) was conducted with the Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run, handgrip, standing long jump scores, kicking, and throwing speed(km/h) as dependent ***: Results indicated that Portuguese children, irrespective of sex, presented better performances in locomotor and cardiorespiratory performance(standing long jump and Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run) than U.S. children in both age bands. U.S. children outperformed Portuguese children during throwing and handgrip tests. kicking tests presented gender differences: Portuguese boys and U.S. girls outperformed their internationally matched ***: Cultural differences in physical education curricula and sports participation may impact differences in motor competence and fitness development in these countries.

Capability of Visible-Near Infrared Spectroscopy in Estimating Soils Carbon, Potassium and Phosphorus

The spectroscopy technique has many advantages over conventional analytical methods since it is fast and easy to implement and with no use of chemical extractants. The objective of this study is to quantify soil total Carbon (C), available Phosphorus (P) and exchangeable potassium (k) using VIS-NIR reflectance spectroscopy. A total of 877 soils samples were collected in various agricultural fields in Mali. Multivariate analysis was applied to the recorded soils spectra to estimate the soil chemical properties. Results reveal the over performance of the Principal Component Regression (PCR) compared to the Partial Least Square Regression (PLSR). For coefficient of determination (R2), PLSR accounts for 0.29, 0.42 and 0.57;while the PCR gave 0.17, 0.34 and 0.50, respectively for C, P and k. Nevertheless, this study demonstrates the potential of the VIS-NIR reflectance spectroscopy in analyzing the soils chemical properties.

The disadvantages of the long term application of Tilemsi natural phosphate （TNP） on maize （Zea mays L.） production has come out because of its low P availability. Some functional soil microbes, such as phosphate dissolving bacteria, have great potential in improvement of P solubility from TNP and P uptake by plants. The present study aimed to isolate and characterize typical phosphate dissolving bacterial strains （Bacillus subtilis） from Malian soils, and investigate their role in P uptake by maize grown in soils amended with TNP. The experimental design was a split plot with three main plots of fertilizers sources, i.e., natural phosphate, commercial fertilizer and without fertilizer, and with seven sub-plots of six microorganisms plus the control. The field experiment results have shown that the maize inoculated with the phosphate dissolving bacteria was improved in seed germination, plant growth, plant production （increase yield by 42%）, grain and aerial dry biomass （P） content of 34% and 64%, respectively. They have also shown that the locally available TNP can be used by the Malians farmers in maize culture and have comparable production to the one obtained with the costly imported commercial phosphate fertilizer, like the complex cereal. The project has provided information for the combined use of the Mali TNP and phosphate dissolving bacteria Bacillus subtilis subsp, subtilis （T）： DSM 10 in improvement of maize production in the country.

The Scrotoschisis about a Case in the Pediatric Surgery Department of the Donka National Hospital

Introduction: Scrotoschisis is a very rare congenital defect of the scrotum characterized by the exteriorization of one or two testes. We report a case of right scrotoschisis in a newborn as well as a review of the literature for an approach of probable etiology. Patient and Observation: A newborn baby of 8 hours of life, weighing 3200 g was referred to our department for a right scrotal defect with exteriorization of the testis associated with fluid swelling of the left bursa. The 18-year-old mother, primiparous and primigeste followed all the prenatal consultations with eutocic delivery. After clinical investigation the diagnosis of right scrotosisis and left hydrocele was retained. Surgical treatment was carried out by primary closure after orchidopexy and exploration of the contralateral bursa, the content of which was calcified meconium bathed in a yellowish liquid. The post-operative consequences were simple. Conclusion: Scrotoschisis is an extremely rare birth defect whose etiology is poorly understood. However, it could be the cause of meconium peritonitis secondary to a scarred fatal intestinal perforation.

Volvulus of the Sigmoid Colon—Management in the Surgery “A” Department of the Teaching Hospital of Point G

Introduction: The volvulus of the sigmoid colon is the twist of the sigmoid handle on its mesocolic axis, achieving a low occlusion by strangulation. Methodology: The study was conducted in the surgery “A” department of the Teaching Hospital of Point G in Bamako. The study is retrospective and descriptive, over 5 years, ranging from January 2014 to December 2018. We conducted a comprehensive recruitment of all patients operated on for sigmoid volvulus during the study period. The only criterion for inclusion was patients operated on for volvulus of the sigmoid colon in the surgery “A” department of the Point G Hospital and the non-inclusion criteria were all patients operated on for other sigmoid pathologies without volvulation and patients operated on for other types of occlusions. Result: We conducted an exhaustive recruitment of 55 patients operated on for sigmoid volvulus during the study period. Sigmoid volvulus accounted for 13.75% of intestinal obstructions. The average age of patients was 48.013 ± 18.042 years with extremes of 24 years and 82 years. The age group 40 - 49 was the most represented at 21.8%. The sex ratio (M/F) was 8 in favour of male sex. The duration of the disease was less than 1-day in 50.94% of patients. There were two cases of ileo-sigmoid nodes. Immediate anastomosis resection was performed in 27 patients or 49.2% of cases. The time to restore continuity when specified was between 60 - 90 days and the median incision was the most common route of recovery at 80.8% of cases. The average length of hospitalization was 9 days with extremes of 2 days and 42 days. The morbidity rate was 7.3%. In our study we had 3 deaths or 5.5% of the cases. Conclusion: The volvulus of the sigmoid colon is the twist of the sigmoid handle on its mesocolic axis, achieving a low occlusion by strangulation. Post-Operatory Acute Eviscerations in Teaching Hospitals of Bamako (Mali)

Introduction: Post-operative acute evisceration is defined as a total dehiscence of the abdominal wall of all the constituents of the abdominal wall. The objective is to determine hospital frequency, identify favorable factors and key etiologies, and assess the rate of morbi-mortality. Patients and Method: This is a retrospective and descriptive study carried out in the general surgery departments of the Teaching Hospitals of Point “G”, Gabriel TOURE and the pediatric surgery department of the Gabriel TOURE University Hospital in Bamako, involving 53 patients. The study ran from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2007. Inclusion Criteria: All cases of postoperative acute evisceration operated. Non-Inclusion Criteria: All cases of evisceration of other etiologies. Results: The average age was 34.2 years with extremes of 6 and 75 years, the sex ratio was 1.12 in favor of women. The initial clinical picture was peritonitis in 26 cases or 49.1%, occlusion in 16 cases or 30.2% and tumors in 6 cases or 11.3%. The post-operative complications responsible for evisceration were: parietal suppuration 28 cases or 52.8%;digestive fistulas 15 cases or 28.3%;post-operative ascites 4 cases or 7.5%. Conclusion: Post-operative acute evisceration is a rare but serious condition due to morbidity and mortality.
